Update as of 03/01/17 per email from Trish DorseySince Goodwill of Silicon Valley is new to this, we're building our process from scratch. Once built though, we can turn it on and off quickly on an as needed basis.
We are developing a tool for our donor greeters to use when a donor specifically asks for the donation to go to the flood victims. It's a visual tool that will demonstrate how their donation cycles through the system and morphs into a voucher that allows the victim to get exactly what they need. I'll share this with you all once it's complete.
Regarding the distribution of these vouchers, we ask that the Red Cross be the agency that determines the need (how much) and then provides the voucher(s) directly.
03/01/17
Our vouchers have an expiration date of 90 days from day of issue. We will stop issuing vouchers May 31, 2017 for this relief effort. Our vouchers are going to print now, so in the meantime, the Red Cross has been provided a letter they can give in place of vouchers.
When the Red Cross closes the LAC, we would then ask that Catholic Charities and Sacred Heart take this on since these organizations are providing the case management for the individuals/families.
Goodwill is also offering to have a point person to field all calls for large merchandise donations. For example, the call from Target offering 4,200 pillows - that caller could be directed to us.
The contact here at Goodwill for those calls is Julie Coy at 408 869-9101.
Please let me know if there are any questions I haven't answered here.
Update as of 03/01/17 per email from John McKnightTo all. Below, as promised, are a few items. First the details of where people can go once referred by Red Cross, to get Vouchers from us. We will do our own casework on them which can open doors to other services we provide; we are a Social Services Organization.
Second, is the description of our donations process to use with donors who have questions.
Please chime in if you have additions.
1) Salvation Army Casework and Vouchers -- Persons with a referral from Red Cross can come to our Family Service Center at 359 4th St. There, at the hours below, they can receive a voucher for our Thrift Stores so they can shop, for free, for items they need.
Family Service sees clients Mon-thurs 8:30-12:00 and then 1-3:30, close office at 4:00pm. Friday they see clients 8:30-12 noon.
2) For Donors -- The items you send to the Salvation Army will help those affected by the San Jose Floods. We make items available to those Flood Survivors who come to our stores free of charge. Survivors pick what they want using a voucher system. In the end, they may not choose what you donated, but they will leave with what they want. Every item helps as it provides more selection and aids is in supporting this valuable resource to the community.
