House Athletics Sports Last Friday the Yr 3-6 children and staff travelled to the Bill Sewart Athletics track in East Burwood for the Essex Heights Athletics Sports. The children competed in a range of events against the other children in their age groups. They certainly enjoyed the experience and especially the chance to compete at a professional venue. The staff were impressed with the way the children gave their best efforts in each competition and also supported each other when they were spectating. Points were awarded to their Houses after each round and I would like to congratulate the children in Lindsay for securing the most points for the day. This event also gave the teachers a chance to identify the children who will go on to represent Essex Heights at the District Athletics Carnival later on Monday, August 31

st.

Thanks to the teachers for their hard work in staging this event for the children, and to the many parents who made themselves available on the day as extra ‘officials’ …… much appreciated. Well done also to our Yr 6 House Captains for their leadership of their teams on the day. The biggest thanks goes to our Phys Ed teacher Ben Wooster for his meticulous planning and preparation that ensured a great day for all involved. Thanks Ben!

Konnective’ – Communication App A reminder to parents about our communication app ‘Konnective’ that is used to share school events and news with parents. If you are not connected yet it is very simple and we have attached a flyer in this Contact outlining how you can join. Then, there are ‘General Updates’ that come to all subscribers as well as Year Level specific updates for the grades your children are in this year.

Class Visit – 4R Yesterday I joined Andrew Russell and the children of 4R for their Numeracy session. They have been looking at measurement including the concepts of area and perimeter. The children were divided into teams and given some instructions, chalk and taper measures to construct a ‘game court’ in the playground. This required them to work as a team, read instructions, design and draw a court to specific dimensions and then play the game. Whilst this was a highly engaging task, the children were also building their skills and developing their understanding of mathematical terms and language. After they had played some games of; Foot Hockey, Ten Pin Bowling and Golf they concluded the lesson in the classroom by identifying the area and perimeter of each court, and estimating the effect on area of doubling the perimeter measurements. Thanks to Andrew for his great work in designing engaging learning tasks for the children, and his terrific contribution at the Yr3/4 Level and across the school in ICT.

Hi Everyone

Ashwood's Football Club are having their biggest kick to kick this Saturday 15th August at Essex Heights. This weekend is Ashwood Football Seniors last home and away game of the year. To celebrate the end of

season prior to finals they are having a very special fundraiser at half time of the senior match (roughly 3.00pm please be there by 2.45pm at the latest)

You will have the opportunity to be present on the

Essex Heights Oval with hundreds of others. We want to make this the biggest kick to kick ever. There will be a $2 entry fee to have a kick on the oval however all money raised will be going to the Anti-Cancer Council, which is an amazing cause to support. So come on kids, mums, dad's, aunties, uncles, cousins, grandparents, neighbours, come on

down to Essex Heights Oval and have a kick while supporting a great cause.

The leader newspaper is coming along to do a story on this great cause so we need as many people as

possible to come along and not only have a kick to kick, but come and support the Ashwood Senior Football team in their last Home and Away game for the season
