Where there’sPinkthere’s less fire
Pink isn’t just for girls any-more.
The new innovative build-ing product Pinkwood is col-
ouring theframesof homes brightp i n k w h i l e i toffers protectionfrom fire, moldand moisture.
James Lind, president of Pinkwood, wantedto improveon bu il d ing ma teria l s by applying the eye-catchingpink solution to it. “e coat-ing makes any wood fire-resistant,” he says.
The company is focusingmainly on I-joists right now,but hopes to expand to all
wooden building products inthe future.
“Putting thesolution on,wedrastically reduce the spreadof flame. It takes longer forthisto catch on re.”
Pinkwood also offers pro-tection against mold andmoisture.
“In openconstructionsites, materials constantly get wet, contributing to mold growthin thehouse,” Lindsays. “isis a water-based, non-toxiclatex acrylic base that encap-sulates the wood, making it
far more moistureresistant.” An added bonus to both
h ome ow ners a nd h omebuilders, there is no differ-ence incost.
“We are bringing this prod-uct to market at the exactsame price as all the othercompetitive products on themarket, so there is no pre-mium from using this prod-uct,” Lind says.
Some might question theuseof thecolourpink.
“This is not a colour you’dtraditionally connect withthe
construction industry by any stretch of the imagination,”Lind chuckles.
But the reason for pink is acelebration of the new part-nership between Pinkwoodandthe Canadian Breast Can-cer Foundation.
“We donate one cent of every linear foot of the prod-
uct to the foundation, so eve-ryone who buys one of thesehouses is making a contribu-tion of $20 to $25to searchingfor a curefor breast cancer.”
Lindis hopingthere’s a mar-ket for a product that makeshomes safer and healthier forno extra cost, while support-ing a worthy cause.
“Right now people mightdrive by and ask why theirhouse is pink. It’s notgoingtobevery long before people areasking why their home isn’tpink.”
