The Camping Guy will be putting down stakes in the community again for a special fundraising event to benefit the South West Chronic Disease Support (SWCDS) group. “The Camping Guy,” a one-act comedy written by Shaunavon resident Dianne Greenlay, will be performed on Sept. 22 and 23 at the Elk’s Hall. “I was pleased to be approached by the South West Chronic Disease Sup-port group and asked if I would consider putting on my play as the entertainment portion for their fundraising evening,” said Greenlay. “As soon as I had con-firmation of cast member availability, I said yes.” Filling out the two-person cast will be long-time community actors Darren Johnston and Andrew Burch. The play is being produced and directed by Green-lay. Veteran stage manager Cathy Smith completes the cast and crew list this time around. The play will be performed over two evenings, with a pub night planned for Friday Sept. 22 and a Dinner Theatre scheduled for Sept. 23.Tickets can be purchased in Shaunavon

at the Western Financial Group office and the Snack Shack, as well as from RV Auto Parts in Frontier, the Rexall store in Eastend and Pat Buck in Gull Lake. Tickets are priced at $30 for the pub night on Friday and $50 for the dinner theatre on Saturday. Greenlay wrote “The Camping Guy” during the Christmas holidays of 2003. The play was originally put on in Shaunavon to a sold out crowd in the Plaza Theatre as well as at the T.rex Centre in Eastend. The play was also performed in a few smaller venues several years ago. “So it was quite the trip down mem-ory lane to revisit the script,” smiled Greenlay. “Since its first performance run in Shaunavon, I’ve had numerous requests for a repeat production from people who either couldn’t attend the first time, or from those wishing to see it again.” The story centres on two mis-matched campers on a weekend re-treat. Reminiscent of television’s and theatre’s “The Odd Couple,” “The Camping Guy” follows the misad-ventures of an experienced woods-man and his inept city slicker client, as they spend a camping weekend in the wilds of the Rockies. What was in-tended to be a de-stressing weekend soon turns into a distressing one, as these two mismatched campers find

themselves engaged in unintended and hilarious situations. “Practices have been going very well with Darren, playing the part of Earl, a somewhat cantankerous but experienced woodsman, and Andrew, playing the part of Johnston, an inept but enthusiastic novice camper,” said Greenlay. “The Camping Guy” was the play of choice for Regina’s Little Theatre’s fall performance last year and that production company also took it to the Provincial drama festival where it won Best Play, Best Actor, Best Di-rector, and Best Back Stage Manager awards. “Besides hoping that people will come out to enjoy the play, I real-ly hope that they will also support this fundraising night,” commented Greenlay. “I feel that the South West Chronic Support group is a very ad-mirable cause to support for all of our communities. Harvest is nearly done for most in the area, and it’s going to be a great way to come out for a relax-ing evening full of lots of laughs and entertainment.” Greenlay also published “The Camping Guy” in both a short story form and as a one-act play. The local author has also published two award-winning novels - “Deadly Misfortune” and “Quintspinner: A Pi-rate’s Quest.”

My husband and I often spell words so that our small chil-dren won't understand what we're saying. I didn't realize

what a habit this had become until one day when my hus-

band and I were in the grocery store at the soup aisle.

An aggressive young woman banged into our cart, then

nudged me over, blocking my access to the soup. Annoyed, I looked at my husband and

said, 'Boy is she r-u-d-e!''Yeah,' he replied, 'but I'll bet

she can S-p-e-l-l.'

John left his twin twelve year old boys in the car while he went into a store. While there he spotted a vender selling ice cream cones. He bought one chocolate and one vanilla for the boys. one of the runners and asked: "What's

happening?" The runner replied

breathlessly: "A lion has escaped from

the zoo." "Oh my, which way is it

heading?" "Well you don't think we are chasing it, do you?"
