GOVERNMENT INCREASES BEN-EFITS FOR SASKATCHEWAN AS-SURED INCOME FOR DISABILI-TY (SAID) PROGRAMgov.ca - The Government of Saskatchewan is following through on a commitment to enhance the quality of life for people with significant and long-term disabili-ties. More than 10,000 people will receive increased monthly benefits through the Saskatchewan Assured Income for Dis-ability (SAID) program, effective June 1, 2013. “The SAID program is a true made-in-Saskatchewan success story,” Social Services Minister June Draude said. “Not only is the program assisting more than 10,000 people in our province to enjoy a better quality of life with great-er dignity and respect, but it is also help-ing us meet our goal of making Saskatch-ewan the best place to live in Canada for persons with disabilities. As our province and our economy grow, programs like SAID are helping to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to benefit from that growth.” Overall, the government has commit-ted to raising average SAID benefits over four years by $100 per month for indi-viduals in residential care, $350 a month for singles living independently, and $400 per month for couples. The first increases went into effect in June 2012. Effective June 1, monthly SAID benefits for single individuals in independent liv-ing arrangements will rise by $50. Cou-ples will receive a $60 monthly increase, and the benefit for persons in residential care will rise by $20 per month. The program was introduced in Oc-tober 2009 after extensive consultations with members of the disability commu-nity. The program is designed to provide people with significant and enduring

disabilities a dignified income support program separate from the Saskatchewan Assistance Program (SAP), in order to recognize the unique needs and experi-ences of persons with disabilities. The same spirit of collaboration and public consultation used to create SAID is being employed in the development of the provincial Disability Strategy. Nom-inations from Saskatchewan residents interested in serving on the Citizen Con-sultation Team are being accepted until June 28, 2013. Nomination forms and additional information on the Disability Strategy can be found at www.socialser-vices.gov.sk.ca/disability-strategy.

Married couples, both 60 years old, were celebrat-

ing their 35th anniversary. During their party, a fairy appeared to congratulate

them and grant them each one a wish. The wife wanted to travel around the world. The fairy waved her wand and poof -- the wife had tickets in her hand for a

world cruise. Next, the fairy asked the husband what he wanted. He said, “I wish I

had a wife 30 years younger than me.” So the fairy picked up her wand and poof -- the

husband was 90.

BY FRANCIS DRAKE

What kind of day will tomorrow be? To find out what the stars say, read the fore-cast given for your birth sign.

For Thursday, May 30, 2013ARIES(March 21 to April 19)In the next six weeks, you’ll identify

more strongly with your beliefs. This iswhy you will be keen to get others toagree with you.

TAURUS(April 20 to May 20)Do not get caught up in thinking your

possessions or bank account is reallywho you are. This might be the case inthe next month or so. Be aware of this.

GEMINI(May 21 to June 20)Mars is in your sign now and for the

next six weeks. Make sure you get extraphysical exercise to burn off some of thispent-up steam building within you.

CANCER(June 21 to July 22)Secrets and people working against

your best interests might be the case forthe next month or so. Nevertheless, youwill discover what you need to learn.

LEO(July 23 to Aug. 22)Expect to be active with groups, espe-

cially competitively, during the next sixweeks. Or one person in particular mightchallenge you to excel in some way.
