GRAN SASSO SCIENCE INSTITUTE POST-DOCTORAL POSITIONS CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 2017 The Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI), School of Advanced Studies based in L’Aquila (Italy), offers 18 post-doctoral positions for research activity in the following fields:

Area Field Positions

Physics

Astroparticle Physics, physics of deep underground laboratories (neutrino physics, direct dark matter searches, nuclear astrophysics) and studies of cosmic radiation (cosmic rays, gamma rays, gravitational waves and astrophysical neutrinos).

Mathematics

Stochastic Differential Equations. Particles systems and macroscopic limits, statistical mechanics and phase transitions. Mathematical theory in classical and nonclassical fluids, Nonlinear dispersive PDEs. Dynamics and Control on Networks. Mathematical models of collective behaviour, in biology and social sciences. Mathematical Models in continuum mechanics of solids, fluids and biological matter. Numerical methods for nonlinear PDEs.

Computer Science

Algorithmic aspects of social and computer networks including (but not limited to) distributed systems, optimization, game theory, analysis of complex networks, and algorithm engineering; Software systems and services, with emphasis on model-based approaches to support their development at different stages: design, testing, implementation, evaluation and maintenance; Specification and analysis of concurrent reactive systems, with emphasis on languages and models for describing such systems, specification formalisms such as temporal logics, and algorithms and tools for computer-aided verification.

Social Sciences

- 2 positions in applied economics. The positions are intended for researchers working in areas and themes of interest of the GSSI Social Sciences unit which include: resilience and natural disasters, public policy evaluation, rural-urban migration, the knowledge economy (especially with a focus on peripheral areas). - 3 positions in the fields of urban studies and urban planning, anthropology, human geography, urban sociology and policy studies. The positions are intended for research activity on the main research issues of the GSSI Social Sciences unit.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must hold a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification. Applications are opened to candidates without regard to nationality, age, gender or religion.

Eligible candidates in Mathematics and Computer Science must have earned their PhD not earlier than January 1, 2012.

A good knowledge of English is required.

Salary and benefits

The annual gross salary is € 36.000,00. Each research grant is for two years.
