The reasons for a choiceSatellite location for TV and radio transmissions

Every satellite is positioned in an orbit around the equator at a distance of about 36,000 km from the earth. Eachsatellite is in a fixed and well defined position on this orbit, shown in degrees in relation to the Greenwich meridian.The Astra 1 satellites are all positioned at 19.2° East of Greenwich. The Eutelsat and Hot Bird satellites are all positio-ned at 13° East of Greenwich. The Atlantic Bird 3 ( AB3 ) satellite is positioned 5° to the West of the prime (Greenwich)meridian.

Satellite reception area (Foot-Print)

Since the satellites are fed exclusively by solar panels,the power available for transmitting to the groundis very low. They are therefore forced to concen-trate all their transmitting energy in a verysmall area of the Earth, so the signals can bereceived by parabolic antennas which arerelatively small. The effect of the signaltransmission is like the light beam of a car:more powerful at the centre of the beam, wea-ker and weaker towards the edges. These areas,where one can receive the signals delivered fromthe satellite, are called Foot-Prints, and each satel-lite has a different Foot-Print depending on its power.For example, "older" satellites have a smaller transmis-sion power, and hence a smaller Foot-Print. Given thepower ratings of the major satellites, TELECO has chosen forits whole range of satellite reception systems three dish dimen-sions: 50 cm, 65 cm, 85 cm - able to meet most of every campingenthusiast's requirements.

FOOTPRINT tips to choosethe correct dish size

Reception of TV and Radio signals broadcast by the4 groups of satellites is guaranteed within the darker(footprint) areas. It should be remembered thatsignals become weaker when the sky is overcast orrainy, and this could lead to images with black andwhite dots, or the images could even disappear.When choosing the satellite system to be installed onyour vehicle, make sure the dimensions of the para-bola are suited for receiving the satellite signals inyour viewing area.

To solve this problem - shared by thousands of camper users - Teleco hasapplied the most advanced technologies in developing its new Voyager G3 Digimaticwith DSF80/E Digital Finder, an electronic elevation meter displaying the absolutedish angle even when the vehicle is not level. DSF 80/E is a device specially desi-gned and built for all those users who wish to be able to quickly locate their requiredDIGITAL satellite with a manual dish system, avoiding all the "delay" issues connectedwith digital broadcasting. Optimise pointing by slowly adjusting both dish elevationand dish rotation, until the maximum number of lit LEDsis obtained on the LEVEL indicator.

If a different satellite hasbeen found, the SAT NOT OKLED will light up and thedish must be rotated againuntil the "BEEP" sound isheard again and the SAT OKLED lights up.

Manual Satellite Antennawith Graduated Scale

Voyager G3 is equipped with a GraduatedScale enabling the angle of the dish to be set

extremely quickly, while remaining inside the vehicle. To cor-rectly set the angle, it is important that the vehicle is level, if it is not

you must add to or subtract the vehicle angle from that of the dish.After setting the correct angle, you just need to turn the dish so it ispointing southwards using the internal mast, and optimise posi-tioning by checking the picture on your TV screen. The Kit Carry Sat was designed expressly to be assembled and reassembled every time the vehicle is moved, or even every night. Thanks to the POLARITY DIRECTION MECHA-NISM, it is possible to receive all TV (Digital and

Analog) signals which are transmitted on both HORI-ZONTAL and VERTICAL polarity with top performance(Digital broadcasting caused the VERTICAL polarity signals to increase in some countries such as Italyand UK).
