We celebrated our 21st Annual General Meetingwith members and friends in North Vancouver onMay 26th, 2018. It was wonderful to see everyone including Virginia Smith, our past vice-presidents of the Association. We thankeveryone for taking time to help support your Association by attending the AGM.

Our morning was busy with reviewing financials and bringing membersup to date on the ongoing business in the office. We had motionsbrought forward to the floor for a vote, and they all passed by the members attending along with the proxy votes sent into the CRA.

After our business meeting and a lovely buffet luncheon, we enjoyedMatthew Kocel and his gift of Cosmic Throat Singing and mediations. What a wonderful way to share this day and our group.

We now look forward to a new year of challenges as we move forwardinto new membership year. Our Registered Teacher Class Outline ReviewProject is progressing well. Many of you have already submitted yourOutlines. We thank you for your assistance. We are finding that the majority of the Outlines submitted have required a few additionalchanges to bring them up to our current standards. If you have not yetsubmitted your Class Outlines, please get them in as soon as possible. Our 2019 membership year commences August 1, 2018, and we will notbe fully processing your renewal until the outlines are approved. Do notallow your membership to lapse. It is most helpful if you can send theOutlines for all levels as one document. By doing this, it saves us a lot oftime on our end.

We are aware that there have been some issues with members postingevents on the CRA calendar on the website. The calendar we currentlyuse repeatedly removes the button that allows members to post theirown event. We are waiting for our management support team to releasea new community calendar that we hope will resolve this issue once andfor all. We are hoping this new calendar will be released in June, so staytuned!

Message from the President.

The CRA, a federally chartered and governed non-profit association, wasfounded in 1997 to register and represent all professional Canadian practitioners and or teachers of all styles of Reiki. We aim to ensure allregistered members work within the Reiki Scope of Practice and performto the highest standards of professionalism for clients and the public andto disseminate relevant information to all its Members in Good Standing.

Benefits of Membership with the CRAOur Mission Statement and Commitment

The CRA provides a common voice were practitioners may be heardwhen appropriate. We publish quarterly newsletters on interestingtopics and other issues in various areas of the country.

Our Registered Teachers follow a common baseline of teaching students. There are varying styles of Reiki, but the same content fromthe Criteria/Educational guideline is taught, allowing for an easy transition from teacher to teacher across Canada.

As an Association we provide our membership with a certificate ofregistration and a designation of CRA-RP, CRA- RT, or CRA-SM. We nowinclude Animal Reiki Practitioners in the Association and their designation is CRA-RAP. The letters CRA after you name establishesyour reputation in the community as a highly qualified and competentReiki practitioner.” All classifications have a registration number whichour Registered Teachers use on the student’s certificates.

Our websites are in both English and French. We provide all the documentation required for new applicants and renewals. On thewebsite we post the newsletters, and members post events, and reikishares. We also offer a Directory listing for all Practitioners and Teachers which allows members to introduce themselves to potentialclients, share their contact information and link people to their socialmedia accounts. Members are able to maintain their own profile anddirectory listings and changes are made in real time.

The 2018 Class Outline Review Project recently announced to our Registered Teachers is well underway. Here at the CRA office, we werenoticing an ongoing trend whereby misinformation was being passedalong, and some things were not being taught at all. By following theTeacher Guidelines and keeping apprised of changes that are madealong the way, our Teachers maintain our high level of excellence withinthe community. People turn to the CRA because they want the best! This Outline Review Project is an important step in maintaining that reputation. We would like to thank everyone who has already submittedtheir class outlines. Your support and cooperation is greatly appreciated. For those Teachers who have not submitted their outlines, we ask thatyou take some time to review the Guidelines and submit your outlinestoday.

The Canadian Reiki Associaton’s 21st Annual General Meeting

Alice, Louyse, Jodie and I had a wonderful day chatting with our members and having the opportunity to discuss our business reports ofthe past year. As well we had three motions that required membershipapproval. The motions were accepted and will now be a part of the CRA By-laws. For the afternoon portion of the day, Matthew Kocel presented us with sound meditations. His sounding during the meditations was outstanding.

Member in Focus

My name is Michelle Parent-Gagné. In 2011, I became a Registered Teacher with the Canadian Reiki Association in the spring of 2017.I found my passion in the Reiki style Usui ShikiRyoho of teaching. I am also a Shamanism in-structor. Since 2009, I became a naturopathicconsultant accredited with the APNN. My practice office is located in a medical clinic where I offer Reiki sessionsand several other services in stress management and relaxation. For fifteen years, I taught adults at the college level. Some topics in myclasses were medical asepsis, psychology, human development, interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, stress management, and emotionmanagement.

In the fall of 1987, I experienced a mystical event that transformed mylife. While I was in the hospital, I had a miscarriage. The doctors told methat I only had two months left to live. That night, a wonderful soundcame to my left ear. I received a visit from a Being filled with love andsurrounded by a golden light. This Being gave me the following message:"Use your music to heal yourself, then go to others” When I left the hospital, I felt I had achieved the first part of this message. A month later, the medical result confirmed it. Moreover, I still needed to find out howto do the second part of this message. The REIKI energy gave me the answer...

In the Summer of 1989, I enrolled in my first class; Reiki style Usui ShikiRyoho-Level 1. The teacher was Bibiane LeHoux. She was trained as aReiki Master/Teacher by Phyllis Lei Furumoto (Hawayo Takata's granddaughter). At Reiki Level 1, I discovered the wonderful energy ofReiki and I practiced Reiki self-treatment for 20 years. If I took so manyyears to do the other three Reiki levels, it was because of the message Ireceived in 1987 from the Being, when I was on the edge of death. Themessage: "Use your music to heal yourself (1st part) and then go to others (2nd part) ...”. In 2009 I received my Level 2. In 2009, my Level 3and in 2012, my Level 4 Reiki Master/Teacher.

In 2011, I was looking for a Reiki Association of quality and credibility. Thanks to Google, I discovered the Canadian Reiki Association. There aremany reasons why I decided to become a member of the CRA.

Page 13: Canadian Reiki Association · Reiki lead me to look at one particular dog through a dog rescue organization. Our eyes, heart & soul met through the picture. She was a 10-year-old

CANADIAN REIKI ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER PAGE 13

My first reason was that I live in New Brunswick and the CRA has a website in both official languages. My additional reasons were that accredited Teachers must prepare all class outlines using the CRA Educational Guidelines; Teachers applying must wait to receive approvalfrom the Board of Directors before they can advertise they are a Registered Teacher with CRA; the teachers can purchase certificates forall levels if they need them; CRA members can use the directory, and thecalendar to advertise their classes or events. This is an opportunity to develop your practice. The Canadian Reiki Association also requiresmembers to agree and sign documents that include the Scope of Practice, Code of Ethics, Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics and a Disciplinary Action. Finally, The CRA has Teacher Evaluation forms thatstudents are encouraged to complete in private and submit the Association after receiving their Reiki training. For all these reasons andmany others, I became a member of the CRA.

Here in my area, Campbellton, NB, it is a pleasure for me to promote tomy students the advantages and the benefits of being a member of theCRA.

May the energy of Reiki guide your path!

Raphael’s Healing Bubble

I received this idea for healing when I wasmeditating and working with ArchangelRaphael. He introduced and demonstratedthis technique to me and I found it reallysimple and easy to use so I wanted to shareit you guys as well

The Process

Shield, ground and invoke the Reiki to flow through you in ways that arefor your highest good.

Draw symbol #3 HSZSN in front of you and connect to ArchangelRaphael.

If you require the assistance of any other angel or spiritual guide you caninvoke them too.

Ask Archangel Raphael to share his healing bubble with you, the bubblecan be of any color depending on what energies we require during thehealing. From my observation the following colors represented the following energies:

Green = healingBlue = protectionYellow = energy and vitalityRed = manifestation and focusTurquoise = abundanceGold = upliftmentOrange = cleansing and regeneration

The colors may have different meanings to different people.Draw symbol #3 HSZSN and state your intent with clarity in terms of whothe healing is for and what purpose.

Once the bubble is in front of you channel Reiki to it, ask ArchangelRaphael to channel his energies into the bubble as well, if there are anyother angels and guides ask them to channel their energies as well.

Page 15: Canadian Reiki Association · Reiki lead me to look at one particular dog through a dog rescue organization. Our eyes, heart & soul met through the picture. She was a 10-year-old

CANADIAN REIKI ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER PAGE 15

Visualize in the bubble the outcome that you want. If you are healingsomeone visualize them already healed, if you want a particular outcomesee it already done, embrace the feeling of already having achieved yourintent. Then release the intent to the universe stating “Universe bring methis or something better in ways that are for my highest good and exceedmy expectation.”

Once the energy has been channeled seal it with symbol #1 CKR. Movethe bubble to the Soul Star chakra of the intended person, if it’s your ownwish, desire or healing move it to your own Soul Star chakra.Once the bubble is at the Soul Star chakra pop it like you would pop aballoon or water bubble and let the energy shower down on the individual.

People experience this like a cold burst of instant uplifting energy. Youcan use this technique for yourself, for your clients, in a group, for plantsand animals. You can do this as many times as you desire. Use it according to your intuitive guidance and creativity.Archangel Raphael

Angel Raphael’s name implies “God Heals.” This blessed messengerspeaks to the capacity inside each of us to heal ourselves if we can moveour awareness into a state where we really trust that God(source) hasskilled each of us with its unlimited imaginative and healing forces.Raphael is the manager of all healers be they holistic, alternative or allopathic. The color associated with Raphael is green and the crystal associated with him is emerald. Raphael is associated with the Heartchakra.

Call up Archangel Raphael to clear energetic blocks within your own oryour client’s energy body so that the flow of universal life-force energycan heal both the root cause of the block and the manifestation that ithas taken.

Reiki For Mindfulness

The best possible life is one that is creative, meaningful, inclusive and sustainable overtime. We can enjoy this healthy quality of life ifwe can be curious and caring with our-selvesand the world so that we can learn what weand others need and can contribute.

Practicing daily awareness of how we and others are interacting with oursurroundings is mindfulness. Noticing like this allows us to take advantage of opportunities for learning and sharing when they arise.

With all the activity, responsibility, and distraction of modern living, it isnot always easy to notice everyone's gifts, life's opportunities and toavoid energy drains. Each day that we are not able to restore ourselvesthrough rest without environmental disturbances, we reduce our abilityto be well and live fully.

Rest may be all that is keeping you from being your best. Reiki spiritualpractice and life energy therapy supports deep rest and renewal andis a mindful step towards wellness.

The Opening of the Heart

This article is really about Reiki, but wewon't get there, right away.

This past week, I have revisited on Netflix a delightful Korean series(Beating Again) about a man who

experiences, quite literally, a change ofheart - a transplant. As a result, his personality, his orientation towardslife, his relationships, and his work, allchange. His new heart, the heart of alovely, caring, and care-free young

man teaches him to evolve into a kinder person. But this of course, doesn't happen without an often hilarious struggle his brain puts up. Hisold patterns of thinking and acting try to re-affirm themselves. For awhile, he is stuck, caught in between, unable to go either forward orback. Eventually, he surrenders to the new input and declares himselfready to learn. At that point, the heart begins to inform the mind. As wellit should. Always. And in every respect.

Think this is just fiction? It is not.

Psychoneuroimmunologist Paul Pearsall has collected dozens of accounts of amazing stories that indicate that some type of cellularmemory exists and that the heart plays a major role in the recovery ofthose memories. As a result, a number of recipients of heart transplantsexperience changes in personality, new feelings, new interests, newhabits... And sometimes, they even remember clear details from thedonors' life.

Here's one of those accounts once shared by a psychiatrist at a conference. "I have a patient, an eight-year-old little girl who receivedthe heart of a murdered ten-year-old girl. Her mother brought her to mewhen she started screaming at night about her dreams of the man whohad murdered her donor.

She said her daughter knew who it was. After several sessions, I just couldnot deny the reality of what this child was telling me. Her mother and Ifinally decided to call the police and, using the descriptions from thelittle girl, they found the murderer. He was easily convicted with evidencemy patient provided.

Page 19: Canadian Reiki Association · Reiki lead me to look at one particular dog through a dog rescue organization. Our eyes, heart & soul met through the picture. She was a 10-year-old

CANADIAN REIKI ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER PAGE 19

The time, the weapon, the place, the clothes he wore, what the little girlhe killed had said to him... everything the little heart transplant recipientreported was completely accurate."

You can read more of these stories and find out about the new findingsregarding cellular memories and their role in "the mind/body/spirit connection" in Pearsall's book, The Heart's Code - Tapping the Wisdomand Power of Our Heart Energy.

The book explores heart, soul, spirit, healing miracles and loving connections from the perspective of ancient wisdom, modern medicine, scientific research, and personal experiences.

I picked up this book a few years ago after a friend of mine received aheart transplant. He had been a conventional rational thinker, but sincethen, has completely transformed. His first words to me, after the transplant were, "I am ready to be redeemed. Where do I begin?" Oncehe began, he never stopped. I wondered at the time, if the change hadto do with the new heart itself or just "simply" the extraordinary experience of getting a new lease on life. In his case, the answer is notclear, but whatever the reason, my friend continues to explore the question, What kind of life should this be? or What should I put my heartinto?

Back to the Korean series, Beating Again:

The recipient of the transplant is a businessman, a cruel monster whenhis heart was sick and dying. His new heart taught him love, empathy, altruism, and humility. His business life transformed. His focus shiftedfrom profit to service.

I consider this symbolic of the threshold we are at now: the individualand the collective opening of the heart. Individually, the quest has alwaysbeen there, for some... That quest goes on. But more importantly andconcurrently, we are now starting to look for an open-hearted way to relate to each other and the life around us because our ways of doing"business" in every aspect of life need to change and our systems needto change. David Suzuki says that "economics is a form of brain damage".I believe it is a form of heart damage. So are our industries, our farming, our educational systems... We need love, empathy, altruism, and humility. We need to think in terms of service.

I, for one, take heart - even the existence of a show like this Korean seriessuggests to me that a shift is underway, that a change of heart is possible, and a more beautiful world can exist.

******************

And now, what does all this have to do with Reiki? Reiki is a heart-practice. And so it heals. The heart heals when there is fresh, coherent, spiritual input flowing through and we surrender to it. It healsby remembering wholeness.

I believe that Reiki is here to show us the way into the future.

Blessings, Elyssa Matthew

Lucy & The Great Spirit of Reiki

All of our animals & dogs have been rescued in some way; after all, everyone needs a home. Recently, after our rescued senior AlaskanHusky dog passed over, we all thought "It's going to be awhile beforewe get another dog." She meant so much to us & was such a beautiful, vibrant sparkle of light in our home. We held a beautiful ceremony onthe day of her passing.

Our plans of "It's going to be awhile" were not the Great Spirit of Reiki'splans. Reiki lead me to look at one particular dog through a dog rescueorganization. Our eyes, heart & soul met through the picture. She was a10-year-old Great Pyrenees dog. Mmmm … my human mind contemplated, this breed is known to live to be only 10 - 12 years old, this can be when senior dog health issues start & on & on my humanmind reasoned. Then I would let it go & carry on with my day. Other dogswere offered to us but none felt right to us & we politely declined.I asked Reiki, the Divine Mind, Master of All That Is, questions about Lucythe Great Pyrenees, such as "What do we have to offer this dog?" "Whatcan this dog offer us?" "Is she a good fit for our household?" Well, in thenext while the Great Spirit of Reiki answered all of the questions loud & clear to the satisfaction of heart, mind & soul.

After everyone's input in the house, the decision was unanimous. We shall startthe application process of applying toadopt Lucy - The Great Pyrenees! So, afteranswering all of the questions on the paperwork, a telephone interview withthe rescue organization and then an in-home visit with Lucy & her foster caregiver, we met all of the requirements, and with the rescue organization's approval, we found no reason for Lucy togo anywhere but stay with us.

She had finally found her forever home.

The Great Pyrenees are known to be a devoted companion dog and/orcan be a very conscientious career livestock guardian dog. They are fearless, patient, confident, strong-willed, independent and at timesstubborn. They have a stunning white coat that may have varying hues. The breed was once known as the royal dog of France. Now, Lucy is a great gal with a personality that matches her mountainoussize. She came with ten years of experiences, and ten years of behavioursthat were familiar to her in her long, long past. Right from the start, Iasked reiki to show me what aspects of Lucy could be the most nurturingso she would be as harmonious as possible in her new home. Reiki paveda smooth path for us. I also let Lucy know that she could come to meanytime, and with her permission, I am always glad to share Reiki withher. Within the first few days, Lucy was coming to me with her head respectfully bowed, stopping in front of me and asking for my hands tobe placed on her in certain areas of her body for Reiki. There have beenso many more of these occasions when Reiki has helped her and us adjust for the highest good of everyone. She gives to us as much as wegive to her. After we had Lucy a few weeks, I walked into the living roomwhere she was taking a peaceful nap, her large white belly rising andfalling in slow time. She must have sensed me looking because she raisedher head, with the rest of her body completely vulnerable and relaxed. At that moment, she gave Reiki and us a rave review, and we both knewthat we were a perfect match.

The Great Pyrenees is a very interesting and fascinating breed of canine. She loves people & soaks up reiki like a large white friendly sponge. Shehas a great big barrelling bark, yet is so playful, filled with frolicking joywith her tail wagging. She woofs at the squirrels on the fence line & thebirds in the trees. She embraces her job of being a noble Great Pyreneesto the fullest as she has her many tones of woofs and barks, dependingon what she feels is appropriate at the time. Lucy loves being with peoplein the great outdoors of nature and sharing Reiki with everyone shecrosses paths with. She is an ancient old soul that allows everyone to feelat home. When we are indoors, she lays so peacefully in the Reiki roomwhile a person is receiving Reiki, or as a person is choosing to share avery difficult time or experience in their life, they find their hands nestledinto Lucy's soft fur, reassured by her presence. Lucy understands theessence of the trials and failures in life, the ups and downs, and holds asacred space of healing for everyone who comes for Reiki.

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

Imagine

…spending a full day immersed in AnimalReiki.

…at a private Exotic Animal Sanctuary.

…in Florida.

…with Animal Reiki pioneer, KathleenPrasad!

Now THAT’S the way to spend a day in February when you live in wintry Kamloops, BC!

When I saw Kathleen Prasad’s invitation to “Animal Reiki Gone Wild,” Iknew in my bones that I needed to go. The course outline read, “Join usfor an awe-inspiring day of Animal Reiki meditation and heart to heartconnections with the unusual and exotic animals of the CARE Foundation. Learn how to make a real difference in your communitythrough Animal Reiki!”

The CARE Foundation in Apopka, FL is run by the fiercely dedicatedFounder and Director, Christin Anne Burford. The following summaryfrom the website belies the decades of experience behind this remarkable woman. “In 1996, she founded The CARE Foundation (Creating Animal Respect Education) in order to provide a home for non-releasable exotic animals that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to place. Christin now dedicates her life to caring for the over200 animals residing on CARE’s 10-acre property located in Apopka,Florida, and passionately continues her quest to educate the publicabout wildlife and conservation issues.”

Our day began in the shade of some beautiful live oaks with some teachings from Kathleen taken from her latest book – Healing Virtues –a lovely and potent reminder of the power of the Reiki Precepts.

Kathleen reminded us about the important and numerous differencesbetween Reiki for People and Reiki for Animals. I love the way she sumsup her philosophy and methodology in the simple phrase, “You don’t DOReiki TO Animals, you BE Reiki WITH Animals.”

She then led us through a guided meditation before Christin joined thegroup to talk about the work they do and share stories about some ofthe animals at the sanctuary and their dramatic, and sometimes heartbreaking, rescues. Then this wonderful woman took us on a tour ofthe property and introduced us to various amazing animals, birds, andreptiles.

Back to the shelter for more teaching time with Kathleen. She took thetime to talk about the value of the upfront conversations with any animal’s person to help them understand what an Animal Reiki sessionis (and isn’t) and what they might expect to see. These pre-session chatsare important to help educate animal caregivers and can often help toavoid misunderstandings or disappointments from clients about the session should the animal choose to not participate. The recurring themeof the workshop was ‘Let Animals Lead’ and was reinforced throughoutthe day as we sat with the animals.

Then we eagerly headed out individually to the beloved ‘critter’ of ourchoice and immersed ourselves in an Animal Reiki meditation. I walkedover to the enclosure that housed the lovely Elita, the endangeredFlorida Panther, and sat down. I was well into a lovely Reiki meditationwhen my attention was dragged to the VERY noisy and insistent CatalinaMacaw, Oscar the Grouch. He was relentless to the point where it required great focus to simply stay in the Reiki space and expand myawareness to encompass a broader area that included his cage. He soonquieted right down! Sheesh! After half an hour or so, we reconvened toshare our experiences, then broke for lunch.

Afterwards, we benefitted from another guided meditation with Kathleen before we headed out again to another animal/bird/reptile ofour choice. This time, I headed for the Bengal/Siberian tigers. Tyrian wasalready enjoying a Reiki session with one of the other Reiki practitioners,so I quietly moved to the far side of the large enclosure nearer to Danarusand Katrina and settled into a Reiki healing space. Not 5 minutes passedbefore Tyrian got up and walked across the large compound to hold mein his gaze and pace back and forth in front of me for nearly 15 minutes. The energy was so powerful it brought tears to my eyes. I felt like I wasthe one who got the healing in that exchange.

Later in the day, we were given the privilege of interacting with some ofthe remarkable residents and I can tell you I seriously wanted to bringthat cuddly little skunk, Trixie, home with me!

Truly, the whole day was amazing and chock full of learning that will certainly enhance and enrich my Animal Reiki practice. Heartfelt gratitude and blessings to Kathleen, Leah D’Ambrosio (Kathleen’s partnerand co-founder of SARA – Shelter Animal Reiki Assn) and Christin.

When Kathleen got back to California, she wrote, “…I’m so grateful forthe amazing group of ladies who traveled to learn, share and grow. Theydiscovered firsthand how letting animals lead makes all the differencein the effectiveness of Animal Reiki sessions, and when we remember tolisten, animals can teach us amazing lessons!”
