This summer, Pastor has focused on the ungodly practices that have become the new normal of our culture. By comparing what God’s Word says against what the world says is acceptable and good, we can know how to answer our culture with the Truth. CAN WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE I believe we can make a difference in this crazy world. We didn’t get to this place in our culture overnight and it will take me to correct our course through determinaon, inspiraon, and a dependence upon the Lord Jesus Christ. If we will allow ourselves to be used for His purpose, one person can be a difference maker. This summer, we have discussed aspects of our culture and it can seem like we are fighng a massive bonfire with a squirt gun. But 1 John 4:4 (ESV) tells us that “he who is in [us] is greater than he who is in the world,” and God desires to use you to change the world for his Kingdom’s work. Remember that Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 1:27 - 28 (MSG), “Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks and exploits and abuses, chose these “nobodies” to expose the hollow pretensions of the “somebodies”?” Most all of us would say that we are “nobodies” in this world, but most of the Heroes of the Faith were “nobodies” as well! One of the most importantly things we can do to combat the ungodly and negave aspects of our culture is educang our children in the ways of the Word. Our children must know godly from ungodly, right from wrong and how to respond appropriately to a culture that has flipped these things around. We must compare God’s perfect plan, his commands, and his good intenons with what the world says is good and acceptable. This starts with faithfully being in the Word and knowing what it says. Begin with the lile things in life and as your ongoing conversaon with your child grows and develops, it will more naturally flow into the larger, more complicated maers. This summer, Pastor has focused on the ungodly practices that have become the new normal of our culture. By comparing what God’s Word says against what the world says is acceptable and good, we can know how to answer our culture with the Truth.

CAN WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

I believe we can make a difference in this crazy world. We didn’t get to this place in our culture overnight and it will take time to correct our course through determination, inspiration, and a dependence upon the Lord Jesus Christ. If we will allow ourselves to be used for His purpose, one person can be a difference maker. This summer, we have discussed aspects of our culture and it can seem like we are fighting a massive bonfire with a squirt gun. But 1 John 4:4 (ESV) tells us that “he who is in [us] is greater than he who is in the world,” and God desires to use you to change the world for his Kingdom’s work. Remember that Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 1:27 - 28 (MSG), “Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks and exploits and abuses, chose these “nobodies” to expose the hollow pretensions of the “somebodies”?” Most all of us would say that we are

“nobodies” in this world, but most of the Heroes of the Faith were “nobodies” as well! One of the most importantly things we can do to combat the ungodly and negative aspects of our culture is educating our children in the ways of the Word. Our children must know godly from ungodly, right from wrong and how to respond appropriately to a culture that has flipped these things around. We must compare God’s perfect plan, his commands, and his good intentions with what the world says is good and acceptable. This starts with faithfully being in the Word and knowing what it says. Begin with the little things in life and as your ongoing conversation with your child grows and develops, it will more naturally flow into the larger, more complicated matters.

Don’t neglect to lead by example by choosing “what is better” (Luke 10:42b ESV) and to “choose life, that your offspring may live…” (Deut. 30:19b ESV) We have a grave responsibility in this society to let our lights shine. With that in mind, we have invited guest speakers to share on Sunday evenings in August some practical ways we can make a difference in our culture. Mark your calendars, especially if you are young person, a parent, or grandparent. You won’t want to miss it!

On another note, we want to welcome Randy McDaris and family as they have come on board with us at Calvary. Randy and his wife, Emma, although originally from Texas, come to us from Sedalia, Missouri. They have three children; Caleb, 12, Micah, 10 and Briella, 6. I know God is going to use this family in great ways here in Central Texas.

I also want to stress to our men to be here on August 24 and 25th for our Men’s Conference. This year our theme, “The DNA of Man” comes from Genesis 2:7. I am excited and I pray that you will be here and be ready to be blessed. Neil McClendon, Pastor at Grand Parkway Baptist Church in Katy, Texas is one of our featured speakers, along with Kelly Boggs, Development Director at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, and Scott Weatherford, Lead Pastor at First Baptist

Church, Wimberley. Worship will be led by David Guion from the Country Church in Marion. We will have several personal testimonies and great food. Cost is $30 but if that is out of your budget, don’t let it be a reason to not attend. Contact me and we will make provisions. It is going to be, as Tony the Tiger says, “GREAAAAAAAAAAAAT!”

Finally, be faithful. Be faithful with your attendance. It is easy to get distracted and live on a detour, especially in the summertime. Be faithful with you finances and give as God directs you from His Word. Be faithful with the life you have been given. You only have one to live!

Because of Christ -
