Individually We Achieve, Together We Excel
Newsletter Issue No 5, Term 1, 3rd April, 2020
Principal’s Message - Neil Schneider
I must say that I am stunned at how quickly our world can change…
I also must say that I am amazed at how parents and carers have assisted their children with the work provided to
them by their teachers.
I am also amazed at how many students have engaged in either online or paper based lessons.
I am also amazed at how teachers have been able to provide flexible distance learning by organising quality online
and paper based lessons and also supervision of the students of essential service workers who are attending school.
I am also amazed at how the school office staff have been able to support our parents/carers, students and teachers
by co-ordinating the printing and distribution of teaching materials and also deal with the numerous enquiries from
the school community and the Department of Education.
I know there are many burning questions as to “where to next” and although we can answer some, most are still
being decided. At present, the advice is that next term will continue in a similar fashion to now.
The advice from NESA on how the HSC exam/assessment will proceed is still being discussed at the present time
and when a decision is made it will be announced to the community.
Casino High School will continue to offer online lessons in Term 2 through Google Classroom supported in some
cases by Zoom. Teachers and students will be following the same timetable as they have been during Term 1.
Student participation is monitored during these online classes, however students who miss a session can access
and complete the work at a later time. This will provide the flexibility for the student to engage in family activities
when necessary. Student engagement and over all attendance (as required by law) will be determined by work
submitted to their teachers. This work will indicate that they are meeting the outcomes of the course.
Students who do not have access to technology or Wi-Fi internet are being provided with paper based lessons which
need to be completed and submitted to their teacher. This also indicates engagement, attendance and whether the
student is meeting the course outcomes.
Student access to communication with their teachers is to be in the allocated time on their student timetable only.
Students who do not have access to a computer and have Wi-Fi internet can borrow a lap top from the school
library. Please phone the school office to make arrangements for one to be made available. Also the student will
need to be present when borrowing occurs as they are required to login to activate the device. Dongles for data
access have been ordered by the school for students who have a device but no Wi-Fi access however they have not
yet arrived. Priority in their distribution will be by year group starting with Year 12. If your child is in this situation
please ring the school to have their name added to the waiting list.
In the changing circumstances please be assured that we are making every attempt to maintain routines and promote positive
student outcomes.
This is our final Newsletter for Term 1 and the last day for student learning this term will be Thursday 9th
April. Learning will recommence after the school holidays on Tuesday 28th April following a staff
development day on the Monday.
The final message from Casino High School for this term is to be safe, look after yourself and your family
and be kind to each other.

Anzac Day
Saturday 25th April
Staff and Students of Casino High school are unable to attend this
year’s Anzac Day commemorations as all services have been
cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak. We would suggest
instead that we all take some time to remember our past and
present service men and women who have made huge sacrifices
so that we may enjoy the wonderful life we have in this great
country we call home.
Australians are encouraged to privately commemorate Anzac Day,
in-line with the latest health advice, and to watch the service at the
Australian War Memorial which will be nationally broadcast, to
enable the public to watch from their own homes. There will also
be a range of other commemorative activities that will be
broadcast throughout the day.
