When are Workshops offered? The first student sets the date & time by coordinating with the art instructor. Workshop are scheduled at least 3 weeks out, then the current Scheduled Workshops Calendar is promoted on our website, via email blasts, on Facebook and available in print at the Lab and on local bulletin boards. ___________________________________________________________

Registration Procedures (Form on Page 14) You must pre-register & pre-pay in advance before we will schedule a Workshop. All registrations are considered confirmed upon completion. You will not receive further confirmation. Therefore, it is your responsibility to record all registration information to ensure attendance on the correct date and time. If a workshop for which you have registered is full, postponed or cancelled, you will be notified. Be assured that Workshops (except Guest Artist Workshops) will not be canceled due to a lack of students, so you may occasionally enjoy 1-on-1 instruction.

Waiting List Once the instructor’s maximum enrollment is reached, names will be placed on a waiting list.

Cancellations If an emergency arises and a class must be canceled, we will make every effort to contact enrolled students. With the exception of Guest Artist Workshops, no workshop will be canceled due to a lack of students.

REFUND POLICY • 100% if we cancel class. • If you cancel more than 7 days before the first day of the workshop … workshop & material fees are fully refunded. • If you cancel less than 7 days before the first day of the workshop … material fees are not refunded but workshop fees, minus a $10.00 fee will be refunded. • No refunds after the first day of class.

No refunds are given due to failure to attend class.

FEES Workshop fees (& material fees, if applicable) are due, in full, upon registering. You are not considered registered until you pay these fees. Note: Unpaid fees hold up teacher pay-processing, so please be courteous to your instructor by enrolling and paying for classes right away.

Participation Policies IAL is not responsible for unattended children on the premises. We do not assume responsibility if your child is dropped off early or picked up late. Please come into the building to see that your child gets to class. Parents are responsible for children brought onto the premises who are not registered in our classes.

Ongoing Art Classes___

Explore a variety of drawing, sculpting & painting medias and techniques including graphite, pen, ink, watercolor, acrylic and clay. These classes allow students to explore different styles and techniques. For children: This is a great opportunity for creative play and helps your child expand their imagination and creativity. Pioneer Days Art Workshops__ The Idaho Art Lab offers an annual exhibit of artwork inspired by historic photographs of the Upper Snake River Valley. We will set you up at a computer in our Computer Lab to peruse our database of local historic photos. The image you wish to create from will be photo copied (B&W) for you. Stay and work on your artwork with others inspired by our history!

We will demonstrate how to draw a horse from a photo to create a realistic sketch portrait. Eraser Effects__ Did you know that a single highlight often dictates the total range of tonal contrast throughout the drawing? Learn how to use your eraser to create unique effects. Perspective Drawing__ Students will learn several different approaches to drawing buildings, interiors, and objects in perspective, including linear perspective, sighting techniques and free-hand sketching. Portrait Drawing (2 Part Series)_ Day 1: The first day of this 2 part workshop will focus on learning proper proportions, how to draw eyes, noses and lips. Bring a close-up photograph/photocopy, 5” x 7” or larger, or use one of ours. (2 hours) Day 2: Students will finalize a portrait drawing, learn about shading, shadows and how to draw the eyes to bring life into your drawing. (2 hours)

How to Draw Hair with Colored Pencil__ When drawing portraits, it is often the hair of an individual that makes them unique. You will learn how to choose the right color tones, what colors make up brown, red, black and blond hair and how to create natural highlights and shadows. Lapidary__ Idaho is the Gem State! Learn the art of stone cutting, grinding, polishing to create beautiful jewelry, belt buckles or worry stones. Ask the Lab about our occasional rock hounding trips where we gather stones, bring them back to the Lab and slab them open to see what’s inside. A great hobby! (2 hours)

Intro to Lost Wax Casting__ Casting molten metal is one of the oldest metal techniques dating back thousands of years. You will learn how to work wax to create a ring, bead or small pendant. Your wax object will be cast in metal incorporating the lost wax casting technique. Please note: This instructor prefers to schedule Friday & Saturday workshops but may be able to accommodate other days. Day 1 (Friday): 3 hours. Sketch design and begin wax carving Day 2 (Saturday): 3 hours. Finish wax carving, lecture about the Lost Wax Method & prep for mold making. Casting: Casting will be done at the instructor’s home studio in Rexburg. Students are invited to watch and learn about the casting process. Day 3: (Following Friday or Saturday): 3 hours. Your piece will have been cast in metal so you can do the finishing polish. This workshop will help you plan out your paintings. You will learn how much is just enough to add to your under drawing, proper balance and composition and how to imply texture. Wall Murals: How to design & Paint__

Daniel has helped local artists create 17 murals around St. Anthony. This workshop will teach you how to create your own! You will see how to take a design or photograph and scale it to whatever wall mural size you desire, learn how to give the appearance of detail & depth and receive a basic overview of composition. Make a Pinhole Camera (2 part series)__ Grab a friend for this fun, informative workshop! You will create a pinhole camera and take photographs directly on photo paper then develop them in the darkroom. Participants will learn basic camera mathematics and principles, how to build cameras, and test exposures with paper negatives. After constructing a camera, students will then photograph outside and then head into the darkroom where they will develop their images.
