The Delaware Highlands Conservancy cangive you that thrilling experience, in a groupor on your own.

Indeed, eagle-watching has become justabout the most popular reason to visit ourneck of the Catskills woods this time of year!

To visit at your pace, the Conservancy’sUpper Delaware Visitor Center (176 ScenicDrive, Lackawaxen, PA) will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.throughout January and February. Stop by topick up a map and directions to the observation areas, watch a short film, view interpretive exhibits and speak with volunteers.

Also on weekends in January and February, volunteers will be staffing observa-tion areas throughout the region. The map isavailable at www.delawarehighlands.org/ea-gles/eaglewatching/map.

And don’t miss Eagle Day! From 1-4p.m. on January 23, the Conservancyand Talen Energy will host a free afternoon of fun for the whole family at the Wallenpaupack Environmental LearningCenter in Hawley, PA.

Enjoy “Live Birds of Prey” presentationswith Bill Streeter of the Delaware ValleyRaptor Center (at 1 and 3 p.m.) and hands-on activities provided by Lacawac Sanctuaryfor all ages to learn about eagles and othernative birds.

Try eagle-watching with a group for aneven better experience! Four bus tours arescheduled: January 16 and 30, February 6and 13, with departure times at 10 a.m. and1 p.m. all four days (from the Visitor Center

in Lackawaxen). Learn about eagles in our region, how

they returned from the brink of extinction,and the habitat they need to thrive, whileyou take a scenic drive with an expert guideon a heated bus and look for eagles.

Bus seats are limited, and reservations are required; call 570-226-3164, 845-583-1010, oremail [email protected] to reserveyour spot – $20 for non-members; $15 formembers. Dress warmly in layers and wearwaterproof boots. Bring binoculars, a camera, snacks, and a bagged lunch.

hen Kristal Whitmore bought and reopened the bowling alley in Callicoon, NY, she had more in mind

than just bringing bowling back to thisstretch of the upper Delaware River valley.

She wanted to create a destination foranyone and everyone who likes a goodtime and a great meal.

Thus was born Callicoon Kristal Bowland truly “the best-kept secret in SullivanCounty.”

“We didn’t want just bar food,” she re-members, nearly five years later. “We
