NAUGHFESTNaughfestisanentireweekdedicatedtocelebratingthewonderfulchaoticmembersofCavanaughHall!ThroughouttheweekthewomenofCavanaughcelebrateallthingschaos.EachdayofNaughfestconsistsofauniqueeventdesignedtoshowourspiritandloveofthebestdormoncampus.Inthepastwehavehaddozensofchaoticeventssuchas“SoYouThinkYouKnowYourRoommate?”,purpleandgreenspiritday,fannypackdecorating,andofcourseawalkovertothepeprallyoftheweek!

CAVANAUGHCREPESCavanaugh’swonderfulpriestinresidence,FatherBob,saysMasseveryMondaynightat10pminthechapel,oftenincandlelight.AfterMass,everyoneisinvitedtothebasementforcrepesmadebyaresidentofCavanaugh.DelicioustoppingsincludeNutella,jam,andpeanutbutter.It’sagreatstudybreak,andyoucangetyourfillofbothGodtimeandyummysnacks.

ST.MARGARET’SHOUSEAspartofNotreDame’scampus-widefocusoncommunityservice,thewomenofCavanaughHallhavemaintainedaspecialcommitmenttoSt.Margaret’sHouse,adaycenterforwomenandchildren.St.Margaret’sHousestrivestoconveyChrist’slovingmessageofhospitalitytoeveryindividualunderitsroof,strivingtoimprovelivesbyservingbothimmediateneeds,aswellasbyteachingskillsnecessaryforenduringsuccess.Thecenter’sadministratorsalwayswelcomehelpfrommembersofCavanaugh;overtheyears,wehavesupportedtheminseveraldifferentways,fromtakingpartintheirannualwinterwalkfundraiserandrunningChristmasclothingdrivestosendingthemhomemadeValentine’sDaycardsandsimplyvisitingtochatwiththewomenandplaywiththeiradorablechildren.

PEPRALLIES!Peprallies,theenergeticeventsonFridayafternoonsbeforehomefootballgames,arekindofabigdealinCavanaugh.Andby“kindof”,wemeanwegoALLOUT!Typically,wegatherinthedormbasementanhourorsobeforethepeprallytoenjoypizzaandakillerpump-upplaylist,chugpixiesticksforjusttherightamountofsugarhigh,anddouseourselvesinpurpleandgreenpaintandplentyofglitter.Whenthetimeisright,we’llheadovertoLibraryQuadorComptonIceArenawavingourflaghighintheairandshoutingourclassiccheersatthetopofourlungs.OneofaCavanaughty’sproudestachievementsisbeingabletospell“Cavanaugh”quicklyandloudly,withoutlookingatthegirl’sshirtinfrontofher(it’seasierthanitsounds,wepromise!)Thenwe’llclaimourfrontrowstandingpositionsandwaitforthepeprallytobegin–aneventthatusuallyfeaturesplentyoffans,theUniversityband,cheerleadersandleprechaun,wordsfromBrianKellyandtheteam,andexcitingpre-gamespeakerslikeLouHoltz.Whileotherdormsmayattendpepralliestoo,noonedoesitquitelikeCavanaughdoes!

CAVANAUGHBIRTHDAYPARTIESCavanaughBirthdayPartiesarethebesttimesofthesemester!Throughoutthesemesterwhenpeoplehavebirthdays,theCavanaughBirthdaycCommitteewillgoarounddecoratingdoors,wishingthemaHappyBirthday.Thenthroughoutthesemester,theywillthrowparties.Therewillbepizza,cake,decorations,games,andmusicinthebasementcelebratingthemostrecentCavanaughbirthdays!

CAVANAUGHCHRISTMASPAGEANTAstheChristmasseasonapproachescompletewithhotchocolate,halldecorationsandunfortunately,exams,Cavlikestoopenitsdoorsandwelcomeinthecommunityforalittleholidaycheer.Readingoffofscriptsandwearinghomemadecostumes,CavanaughtiesvolunteertoputonaChristmaspageantforthestudentsfromtheUniversityPreschool,womenandchildrenfromSt.Margaret’shouseandothermembersoftheNDfamily.Heldinthechapel,thepageantisafunwaytogetintheChristmasspiritwhilegettinginvolved.Andwhocansaynotocraftsandpizzabeforehand?

CHRISTMASDECORATINGCONTEST

AtthebeginningofDecember,eachsectiondecoratestheirsectionforChristmas.Decoratingcontinuesforaboutaweek,andwhenthetimefordecoratingisup,thebestdecoratedsectionwinsaprize,suchasapizzapartyorberriesatasectionmeeting(berriesaresacredincollege.Cherishthemathomewhileyoucan).Thisisafunwaytobuildupthefriendshipsinyoursection,spreadChristmascheer,andmakeCavanaughalittlemorelikeahome!

Threetimesaweek,onSunday’s,Monday’s,andWednesday’s,theCavanaughcommunitygatherstogethertoshareinthesacramentofcommunion.Wecometogethertopray,reflect,andgrowclosertooneanotherandGod.AfterMassonSunday’s,weagaingatherasacommunityinthebasementtohaveicecreamsundaes!!Notonlyisicecreamawesome,buthavingthisawesometreateveryweekafterMasswithyourCavsistersisalsoanawesometreat.SundaySundaesareagreatwaytospendtimewiththeotherwonderfulwomenintheCavanaughcommunity.

DRESSSWAPIfanyonehasdressesthattheyhavewornonceorafewtimesbutdon’twanttoweartoCavformal,theCavanaughdressswapistheperfectsolution!DressSwapisagreatwaytofindadressyouloveandbeabletoletotherswearthedressesthatwouldjustsitinyourclosetotherwise.Tolendadress,youjustbringitdowntothebasementandfilloutaslipabouttheconditionandvalueofthedressassortofaninsurancepolicy.Ifyourdressisn’tused,itwilljustbereturnedtoyou.Theactualeventofthedressswapisablast—music,food,andfriendsinthebasementtryingondressesandgettingpumpedforformal!Aftertheswap,yougetyourdressback!

PARENTSWEEKENDEveryyearforaweekendinthespringsemester,Cavanaughgirlsgetachancetoshowtheirmomordad(oranotherimportantpersonintheirlife)theirhomeawayfromhome.Theyearsalternatebetweenmothersandfathers--lastyearwasamom’sweekend,andthisyearwewillwelcomealltheCavaDadstocampus!Funeventsduringlastyear’sWonderfulWomenWeekendincludedanappetizersocial,yoga,MasswithFatherBob,andabrunchintheCavanaughbasement.Dadsenjoyedabaseballgame,afather-daughterdance,andacookout.Thisweekendisagreatopportunitytomeetallyourfriends’parentsandshowyourfavoritepeopleallaroundyourfavoriteplaceonearth:CavanaughHallandNotreDame.

CAVLOVESZAHMAtNotreDame,eachhallisassignedabrotherandasisterdorm.Mosthallsacknowledgethefactthattheyhaveasiblingdorm,andthat’swhereitends.ButCavanaugh,beingthegreatestdormoncampus,takesitafewstepsfurther.Wehavebeen#blessedwithZahmHouseasourbrotherdormforaslongasanyonecanremember.Rumorhasitwe’retheoldestbrother/sisterrelationshiponcampus!Becauseofthis,wetreasureourbrothersandhaveareallystrongrelationshipwiththem.Ourdormsaremirrorimagesofeachotherandsuperclose,soit’seasytogettoknowthegreatguysthatliveinZahm.Don’tletothersphaseyou-theZahmbiesaresomeofthegreatestguysoncampusandloveCavanaughasmuchasCavanaughlovesZahm.

Becauseourdormshavesuchgreatbrothersisterrelations,thegreatestweekoftheyearisbrother-sisterweek,wherewecelebrateourgreatrelationship.TheweekisalwaysfulloffuneventslikesectionfamilyphotosinfrontofZahm’smascot(Ignatsthemoose),cookouts,campfires,andthebesteventofall-thesectiondodgeballtournament.Here,eachsectioninZahmandCavjoinforcestoseewhowillwinitall.

ThemenofZahmwillbesomeofthebestpeopleyouwillmeetoncampus,sotakeadvantageofourgreatrelationshipandgettoknowthem!

CAVAZAHMMASSAfewtimesasemester,CavanaughanditslongtimebrotherdormZahmjointogetherforMassinoneoftheirtwochapels.OftenFatherBob,Cav’spriestinresidence,andtheZahmrectorwillconcelebrate.Thechoirsalsojoinforces,andthere’salwaysplentyoframbunctiouspew-thumpingduringthelastsong.AroundChristmas,theMassusuallyfinisheswithsomeenthusiasticcaroling.AfterMass,everyonemeetsforicecreamandsocializinginonedorm’sbasement.CavaZahmMassisagreatopportunitytogettoknowourbrothersnextdoorandjointogetherinworship!

TREELIGHTINGCavanaughdoesnotholdbackduringtheholidayseason.Everyyear,wejointogetherwithourloyalbrotherdorm(ZahmHouse)toparticipateinafunChristmasevent:TreeLighting.Thisisn’tanyordinarytreelighting;wegoalloutwithhotcocoa,cookies,andChristmascarols.ZahmandCavanaugheachhavealargeChristmastreelocatedacrossfromeachotherontheZahm/Cavquad.Thetrees(TinaandTerrance)areplacedhighonthesecondstoriesofCavandZahmforalltosee.Astoryaboutthetrees’historiesisreadaloud,andthenthelightingbegins.Thiseventtakesplacearoundtwoweeksbeforewinterbreak,andisanexcitingholidayeventtotakeyourmindofftheloomingexams.
