Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the handbook is to put in writing some of the many expectations, and helpful information for teachers to facilitate a more effective and efficient operation of our programs.

If you have any questions or concerns for items in the handbook, or not in the handbook, please contact the assistant principal.

Absence, Teacher

If you are in school, and know that you will be absent on the following day, please call the OCM BOCES Substitute Service, or register your absence via the computer program through BOCES. It is extremely helpful if you inform the assistant principal’s secretary regarding your absence, and notification to BOCES.

If you are unable to report to work, please contact the OCM BOCES Substitute Service prior to 6:30 am to arrange for a substitute.

Please have written lesson plans and materials available for your substitute as well as some emergency plans that can used on any given day. If you choose to have a film shown, it must be accompanied by a study guide and an assessment for the learning goals of the film, and have been approved by the building principal in advance.

When going to a conference or on a field trip, contact the OCM BOCES Substitute Service for a substitute, and then notify the assistant principal’s secretary of your absence and notification of BOCES Sub-Service.

Accidents or Injuries

Each teacher is responsible for filing a report on any accident to a pupil occurring while the pupil is under his/her supervision. This report is to completed in the High School Nurse’s Office on the day the accident occurs (by the close of school that day).

All accidents to staff (including non-teaching personnel) incurred while performing a school function, on school grounds or away, must be reported on the same day, as soon as possible to the High School Nurse. Workmen’s Compensation is effective only if a report has been submitted within 24 hours of the accident.

Activity Day Schedule

All teachers are assigned a homeroom rotation on activity day. From late September through April students are released for religious education on Wednesday mornings, immediately after homeroom through 8:40. An official list of students exiting the building for religious education will be released from the assistant principal’s office prior to the start of the activity day cycle in September.

Homeroom’s during activity period should observe the same tone as study halls and classes; that is, they should be kept quiet and conducive to learning. Pre-signed passes are required for students to leave the homeroom to attend another room, including the library and computer lab.

Advisors - Responsibilities

1. Act as an advisor to the group assisting the offices in making the organization effective, smooth-running and productive. Oversee all elections of offices and keep an accounting of balloting.

2. Attend all meetings with the group/class/club.

3. Supervise, in person, all special activities, social activities, and fund-raising of the group/class/club. You will need to obtain deposit slips from the main office, and keep all funds secured in the office safe prior to depositing.

4. There are stringent state regulations governing the collection and expenditure of moneys by clubs and other organizations. Please familiarize yourself with them by contacting the Business Office at your earliest convenience.

5. All funds collected for charitable drives or other purposes should be kept in a box with both the club’s and advisor’s name on it. This box should be properly safeguarded during the day and deposited at the end of each day. Money is not to be left overnight in a teacher’s desk or cabinet. In cases when a club has a large amount of money from an activity, the money should not be left in school over the weekend. The money should be handed in for deposit. Lost money, not properly supervised, becomes the ultimate responsibility of the advisor.

6. Supervise all accounts receivable and sign all disbursement requests of the group. Work with the club treasurer for clarity and efficiency of record keeping. See that valid invoices, receipts, and checks for all transactions are complete and filed. Assist the organization in wise budget making decisions.

7. Make arrangements for the use of building facilities by proper event scheduling with the Principal’s secretary and completing necessary building permits. These are issued on a first come, first served basis. Advisors are in charge of dances. It is the advisor’s responsibility to make all arrangements for chaperones, building permits, and change for tickets and all other details in accordance with school policies. Any teacher planning an activity outside the building involving Cazenovia pupils must first obtain permission from the Assistant Principal.

B.Y.O.T. Student AgreementThe use of technology to provide educational material is not a necessity but a privilege. A student does not have the right to use his or her laptop, tablet, or other electronic device, while at school. When abused, privileges will be taken away. When respected, they will benefit the learning envi-ronment as a whole. Students and parents/guardians participating in B.Y.O.T. must adhere to the Student Code of Conduct, as well as all Board policies, particularly the Acceptable Use Policy (pg. 26). Additionally, technology:

•Must be in silent mode while on school campuses and while riding school buses.•May not be used to cheat on assignments or tests, or for non-instructional purposes (such as

Cafeteria Duty

Teachers may express an interest in serving as a cafeteria supervisor at the end of the preceding school year by submitting a written statement of interest to the assistant principal. The duty will be designed to accommodate as many requests as possible.

Be prompt in reporting to the cafeteria or room 102 (Sr. Lunch). During the period teachers need to rotate throughout the cafeteria to monitor student behavior and to remind them to pick up after themselves. Proximity works best in addressing inappropriate behavior. Common infractions in the cafe that must be addressed include but are not limited to failure to throw trash out/return tray, use of inappropriate language/gestures, obnoxious behavior, playing with or throwing food, and creation of a safety hazard.

When a warning is not heeded, the student(s) should be sent to the office and a referral needs to be written. Students must remain in the cafeteria until the bell rings to signal their return to class. No student should be allowed to go to their locker or to another classroom/hallway during lunch. Students may only leave if they have a pre-signed pass with the time specified. We will continue with the “5 minute” rule. Students are to throw away trash upon finishing lunch. With 5 minutes left in the period monitors will ensure that all trash is placed in the appropriate receptacles.

Legal absences from school (field trips, conferences, sick days, personal days) are the only acceptable absences from this duty. Any other non-excused absence will result in a payroll deduction.

Cafeteria Duty - Senior Lunch Room

This room is limited to the first 30 students - no more. Once students enter they cannot leave the room nor may they leave to allow other students to enter.

Students may not use any of the materials in the kitchen area without written permission from Mrs. Kellstrand or Ms. Beyer.

Students must be supervised at all times in the senior lunch room.

Students may not use cell phones, laptops, dvd players, game boys, nor music players during lunch.

Students may view the TV as long as the lunch monitor operates the tv programming (ex - Jerry Springer is not allowed, but CNN, Fox, News ESPN, etc, are OK).

Specific responsibilities during the event will be assigned to chaperones by the faculty sponsor of the organization in charge and/or the administrator in charge. In accordance with the contract between CCSTA and the Board of Education, teachers who serve as dance chaperones will be paid at the hourly contracted rate.

The following expectations apply to chaperoning dances:1. Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the dance and remain until the students have left

the building.2. Keep the group under your immediate supervision, visible by circulating among the students.3. Our school allows students to bring guests to the dances. Students must sign up their guest in

the main office using the appropriate form. If approved, the guest may attend the dance.4. Do not tolerate any running, boisterous noises, public display of affection, disruptive behavior

Classes Held In The Library or Computer Labs

Teachers may sign out the computer lab or computer carts by contacting Mrs. Foley in the Computer Lab. Since these carts and labs are requested often, it is in your best interest to plan well in advance for the use of these facilities. Teachers must remain in the lab with their students during these periods, as students frequently have questions about assignments to which only you as the classroom teacher have the answer.

Teachers may also collaborate with our Library Media Specialist, Ms. Waldron, to plan student research projects in the library. Collaboration with Ms. Waldron in advance of your project will ensure a smooth research period for you and your students. Again, to reserve the library you must speak with Ms. Waldron well in advance of your assignment to reserve the library or to schedule a cart of books for your classroom.

Faculty may reserve books for student assignment use. These will be set aside and will be treated as reference materials in order that all may have the opportunity to use the materials.

If you wish the library media specialist to teach a class on reference materials, please make the arrangements at least one week in advance.

Classes Outside

Unless your lesson focuses on the environment outside, such as the study of chemicals in the water, classes are not to be taken outside. We pride ourselves on our students academic achievement, and as such it is our duty to provide the most conducive learning environment possible, and that takes place in the classroom. When students go outside for a class their attention generally does not remain focused on the lesson for its entirety and other classes are disturbed by either the outside noise or realization that their peers are outside and they are inside. Also, students with allergies are now subjected to an environment which we have no control over; ex pollen, bee stings, fresh cut grass allergens, etc. To avoid muddy waters, all classes will remain within the confines of our building unless an arrangement has been made with the building principal or assistant principal. These arrangements will only be allowed if the learning goal is identified as requiring the outdoor experience.

Collection of Money

From time to time it may be necessary for teachers to collect funds from students (field trips, review books, fundraisers). Teachers will be responsible for getting those funds to the office themselves rather than sending students. Money is to be counted and placed in a secure envelope or container. All money should be stored in the safe, as money kept in classrooms is not covered by our insurance policies.

No funds should be collected, or fund raising events or sales scheduled, without the prior approval of the principal or assistant principal.

Communication

Teachers are encouraged to write up short articles of events happening in their classroom, projects or accomplishments of students, or other interesting occurrences. Pictures can be taken to accompany the articles, and The Blue and Gold or the Cazenovia Republican are always looking for items to print. All press releases and letters to parents, should first be sent to the high school principal for approval. Blue and Gold material should be sent to Laura Ryan, District Communications Specialist (x3334).

Computer, Network and Internet Acceptable Use Agreement

See appendix

Conference Requests

Please see Mrs. Haube in the main office for all conference request forms. Prior to submitting the forms for approval, you must first confer with your department leader to determine whether the conference will be of value to you, your students, and the district. Department leaders also need to review budgetary constraints in relation to your conference request.

Applications must be submitted to Mr. Schnabl at least 2 weeks prior to the event. Requests may be denied if they are received without sufficient time for review.

Copying Room

Debbie Warren will perform your copying tasks when they are requested in a timely and completed manner. Forms are available in the faculty room and main office for copying tasks.

No work may be completed with due dates reading: ASAP.

Teachers must allow at least 48 hours turn around time for copy services.

The copy machines located in the faculty room & Department Offices are there for making original or 1 to 2 copies. They are not intended for large scale use. The machines located in the copy room are high efficiency copiers and able to produce copies at a considerable smaller cost than the machine in the teacher’s room.

Detention Duty

High School teachers shall be assigned to after school detention duty on a rotating basis. Once each school year, the teacher so assigned shall perform this duty without additional remuneration. Additional sessions during the year shall be compensated at $23.16 per session for the duration of the contract (Article VII, pg. 12 CCSTA Contract). If a teacher is planning to be absent from school on the day they are assigned detention they must find a teacher to switch duties with. If you had an unexpected absence on the day you were assigned, you will be re-assigned a day as someone had to cover your absence.

‣Teachers must pick up the detention book from the assistant principal’s secretary prior to 2:45, as detention begins promptly at 2:50 and lasts until the bell rings at 3:40.

‣Accurate attendance of all students must be taken. Students must sign-in on the line in the detention book. You will need to mark all the detention slips as to the student being present, cut or absent from school (check against absentee list).

‣Students need to be on time, 2:50-3:40 p.m.. If a student is late, please mark the time of the arrival next to the student’s name.

‣Students need to bring work with them and be working during the period. They may not have a pass to their locker to obtain materials, nor to the lavatory.

‣Students are to remain seated and quiet.

‣Students may not leave the detention room to go to another teacher without prior written administrative approval. This is an office detention and only an administrator may remove a student from detention.

‣No talking is allowed in detention.

‣Students are not allowed to put their heads down and sleep during detention.

‣If anyone becomes disruptive during detention, write up a referral and inform the student that they will be repeating the detention due to inappropriate behavior.

‣If a student cannot follow these rules and is creating a disturbance after being warned once, the student should be sent out of the room and to the office. YOU must also call the office immediately and report the expulsion of the student. A detailed referral must also follow (submitted prior to leaving school for the day).

‣With 5 minutes left in the period check to see who needs a bus pass and complete one for each student in pen.

Display Cases

Display cases are designed for use by certain disciplines. However, this does not preclude the request by any teacher to use a particular display case. Requests should be submitted to the principal.

Teachers/departments are asked to keep their display cases and bulletin boards in acceptable form. These should be refreshed for the start of the school year and revised at least once during the year. It is imperative that they showcase our students and learning on the evening of Open House.

Early Dismissal

When weather conditions become sever and students are already in school, it may become necessary, in the interest of safety, to close school earlier than the regular dismissal time. If early dismissal becomes necessary, area radio stations and TV stations will carry the announcement for the parents’ benefit and staff will be notified via the P.A. System.

When school closes early, ALL after-school activities are cancelled. Students may not remain in the building when we close due to safety concerns. Teachers are not to leave until all the buses have departed.

Extra Help For Students

It is expected that each teacher will be available for students in order to give extra help at least once a week. This should be a time for make-up for those students who have been absent or late in getting their work done. Keep your classes informed, and post the day of the week (and place if necessary).

Field Trips

With the increase in the cost of fuel, all field trips should be screened to ensure that they offer learning which can not be duplicated within the school. All field trips must directly impact the curriculum of the course that is submitting the request. No field trips should be requested after May 1st.

Parental permission is required for each field trip. Teachers must bring student emergency information and appropriate medical supplies (see nurse for details). The office must be provided with a cell phone number for contact purposes (included field trips where students are walking into the village).

Field Trip request forms may be obtained from the Main Office. These forms must be submitted to the Principal for approval at least 2 full weeks in advance of the trip. Approved transportation requests must also be made to accompany the field trip - and these need to be submitted to the Transportation Supervisor, at least 2 weeks in advance. Overnight field trip request forms may be obtained from the High School office, & must be submitted at least 6 weeks prior to the date of the trip. Overnight trips require BOE approval, and all requests to the BOE must be submitted no later than noon on the Wednesday preceding the next Monday board meeting.

Fire Drill Regulations

Fund-Raising

In order to be placed on the Cazenovia School District Calendar, advisors must attend the end of year fund-raising meeting that plans the succeeding year’s calendar. Clubs/classes are limited to 2 fund-raisers per year. Each fund-raiser is limited to a maximum of 2-weeks.

All fund-raising activities must be approved by the Associate Principal. Raffles of any kind are not allowed. Also, lollypops, and candy may not be sold. Cazenovia High School respects the Health & Wellness Initiatives, and when possible, our fund-raisers should reflect these values.

General Discipline

All teachers are responsible for all students while they are on school property. This means all teachers share the responsibility for the discipline/supervision of students outside as well as inside the classrooms; hallways, stairwell, bathrooms, etc.

Teachers need to supervise the hallways outside your classrooms as students pass between classes. As per contract, teachers will have an assigned hall duty twice per school year. Prior to your scheduled hall duty you will receive a map of your assigned area. During your scheduled time frame you need to walk the area to which you are assigned, addressing any student indiscretions that arise. Morning hall duty is scheduled from 7:40 - 7:55, and afternoon hall duty is scheduled from 2:41 - 2:56. Please be prompt, and remain in your area throughout the designated time.

Students should be sent to the office for the following reasons:

✦ Use of inappropriate language/gestures

✦ Threat to staff or other students (verbal or otherwise)

✦ Conduct that is illegal

✦ Fighting (in this case send one student to the office and keep the other in the room and call the office for assistance).

Students should have a referral written for the following reasons:

✓ All reasons listed above for being sent to the office

✓ Failure to attend mandated after-school help

✓ Chronic misbehavior that has continued past both calls home to the parent and teacher detentions

Grading, Assessments & Report Cards

Teachers are to utilize PowerSchool Grade Book for record keeping of student progress. In doing so, grades must be updated a minimum of every other week. Parents, students and resource teachers cannot work with students effectively if they do not have the tools to access their learning strengths, weaknesses and omissions. It is imperative that all teachers abide by the rules and processes for inputting and verifying student grades. The Grading & Evaluation Guidelines are to be followed; specifically the 70% Formative & 30% Summative breakdown in grading.

Hall Duty

Ask all students passing in the hallway to show you a pass, and then check the name, date and time of the pass. If they do not have a pass, escort them back to their study hall/class.

Conduct a walk of the area assigned 3x during the period. For the remainder of the time you may pull a chair/desk into the hallway at which to work (in an area that allows maximum visibility of your assigned area).

Homeroom Duty

Teacher’s assigned homeroom duty serve a very crucial role as you are the first one’s to officially greet our student’s every morning. Homeroom teachers should be in their homeroom, and have their homeroom open, by 7:50 am. Attendance must be taken carefully as the recording of this becomes part of the data mandated and submitted to the state, daily. Attendance must be sent via Power School by 8:15 am. Students are not to be given the task of taking attendance, as this is a very serious matter that we prefer teacher’s complete.

Eye contact must be made with all students when taking attendance.

Morning announcements purvey important information to a wide array of our students and staff, and it is therefore crucial that the classroom maintain an atmosphere conducive to the reception of the news. Teachers must maintain a quiet classroom through the reading/presentation of the announcements.

Each teacher must check their mailbox upon entering the building and at some point after lunch and before they depart for the day. Periodically important information will be left in your mailboxes that needs to be dispersed to students in homeroom. It is crucial that this material be given to the students either that morning if received before homeroom, or the next morning if received later in the school day.

Interim Reports

Interim reports will be posted on Powerschool at the 5th, 15th, 25th and 35th weeks of school. They are indicators to parents of student progress, both good and bad.

Any student who received a grade below 70 or shows a significant decline in performance must have appropriate comments accompanying their interim grade. Teachers must call home and speak with the parents of all students earning a D or less; especially prior to interim/report cards being sent home. Direct communication with parents/guardians is the number one way to ensure student success.

In School-Detention (ISD)

Teachers need to report immediately to their duty so that the teacher they are relieving may make it back to their classroom for their next class. Teacher’s assigned to 1st period ISD need to contact the assistant principal’s secretary to get the day’s list of assigned students. If a student is absent it must be reported to the assistant principal’s office by 8:20 (or by 9:00 on activity period day).

‣On activity period day ISD is closed during activity period. No student should ever be left alone in the ISD room.

‣Students need to be assigned seats, and when possible they should be placed in every other seat.

‣Students may not use the computer on the teacher’s desk without prior approval from the main office.

‣No talking, nor student working with another student is allowed. Also, no electronic devices, cell phones, MP3 Players, iPods, nor PlayStations are allowed. Students are to work on school work, read, write or perform any other productive assignment. They may not sleep.

‣Students are not to be released from ISD to go to see a teacher or to go to their locker or bathroom. Bathroom breaks are scheduled as a group, as well as lunch time (11:40 am). Aside from their lunch no other food is allowed in ISD (albeit a bottle of water for students assigned all day). These times are posted in the ISD room and are to be directly adhered to.

‣Teacher’s may escort a student from ISD to go to their class only with prior approval from the assistant principal’s office. Again, students may not leave on their own will.

ISD - for the Classroom Teacher

All teachers must provide work in a timely fashion for their students when they are scheduled for ISD. If the work being done in class that day cannot be duplicated for an ISD classroom, then an alternate assignment MUST be provided. This is also an opportunity to provide students with back work as well as enrichment activities.

★ Essential Questions & Guiding Questions

★ Cooperative Learning Strategies (denoting differentiated one’s)

★ Student centered closure.

★ Assessment of student learning tool(s).

Library

Faculty members may borrow all materials for an unlimited period of time by signing them out.

Effective student use of the school Media Center depends greatly on effective teacher use of the facility. The faculty should work in cooperation with the library staff to ensure that their students are able to derive the most benefit from the resources available.

The following services are available to any teacher at any time:

Books and other materials may be requested for purchase for the Media Center and will be ordered if money is available

Materials may be reserved for a special assignment and will be checked out for whatever period of time is specified by the teacher.

A list of materials available on a particular subject will be compiled by the librarian.

The librarian is available to give class lessons in any aspect of library use/research.

The Media Center display case is available for class work displays.

Classes will have priority use of the Media Center if the librarian is notified of the need ahead of time. Arrangements for classes to use the Media Center should be made at least a day in advance, to be sure that the necessary materials will be available and that study hall teachers can be notified if it is necessary to limit the number of study hall students. The teacher should remain with the class in the Media Center at all times.

Lost School Property

Students are responsible for school property assigned to them. If such property is lost or damaged, the student is responsible for replacement. The family may be charged and/or report cards withheld at the discretion of the building administrator.

Teachers should record the identification numbers in all books that they assign to students.

When a book is lost, a teacher must complete an “Arrears” form and send it to the office. This form may also be used for team uniforms, or other school property loaned to students.

Lunch Periods

All teachers are assigned a designated lunch period each school day. Teachers may sign-out of the building during this time, by recording their leaving and re-entry times in the main office.

Mileage Bills

When a claim is to be made for mileage, please observe the following procedure:

1. Before and after the trip jot down the speedometer reading.

2. Obtain a mileage form from the High School office.

3. Turn in your record of miles traveled, destination and purpose of trip.

4. All mileage bills and expense vouchers must be approved prior to incurring the expense and initiated by the building principal prior to being sent to the district office.

Observations (see APPR on website as it incorporates state mandated changes)

Supervision means daily contact of teachers and the administration as well as occasional classroom visits. In both cases supervision should consist of an interchange of ideas, giving constructive suggestions, service and assistance.

Good supervision implies a two-way exchange of ideas where teachers, too, may feel free to express themselves and make suggestions about factors affecting their teaching situation.

Supervision is best when a teacher requests assistance. For this reason, staff members are encouraged to request a classroom visit whenever a problem presents itself, or when another viewpoint would prove valuable. Visits should also be invited when there is something of particular interest going on in the classroom.

For more clarification regarding observations, please refer to the current, 2013-14 APPR document.

Parent Conferences

Communication with parents is extremely important. Teachers are to initiate parent contact whenever a problem/concern arises with a student, whether it be academic or behavioral. Telephone conversations and personal conferences are effective steps to solving student problems.

During the school year there are scheduled release days when teachers are to have arranged conferences with parents. It is the responsibility of the classroom teacher to arrange these meetings. The office will assist in arranging large group conferences. Do not wait for these regularly scheduled release days to hold conferences that are extremely important.

Keep in mind that parents will often say, “If I had known my son/daughter wasn’t doing his/her homework I would have been able to correct the problem.” - Let’s give parents the opportunity to try to solve these problems before report cards/interim reports come out.

New option this year are the evening parent conference times; 6:00 - 9:00 pm. Teachers may leave at 11:00 am on these days.

Parties In The Classroom

No Christmas, birthday, or other parties that involve food/drink/candy are to be held in the classroom at any time. Parties are not to be held during the regular school day.

Personal Leave Requests

See Mrs. Haube in the main office for a Personal Day Request form. Mr. Schnabl must receive your personal leave request in writing at least 2 full days in advance.

A maximum of four (4) days annually are allocated for personal leave. No more than three (3) days can be taken consecutively without the written approval of the Superintendent. Personal leave shall be defined as those days which are not listed under any other policies regarding absence from teaching duties. These days shall be granted when requested in writing two (2) days in advance without requiring said unit employee to submit the reason for such personal leave. In emergencies, the two (2) day advance may be waived. Although a unit employ is not required to submit a reason for personal leave, no such leave will be used for pleasure or gainful employment nor to extend vacations, including individual holidays. (Article VI, CCSTA contract).

Private Property - School Insurance

Privately owned equipment and materials are not covered by the school’s insurance program. Please keep this in mind when bringing your own items of value to school.

Referring a Student to the Student Success Team (SST)

Cazenovia utilizes the Response To Intervention (RTI) model for our students. As such, a pyramid of interventions come into play when students are struggling. After a teacher has employed all of their skills to assist the student, (after-school extra help, mandated help after-school, contacted the parents and met with parents to name a few), and the student is still struggling, the green SST Referral form must be completed and submitted to Mrs. Windland. This form must be completed in its entirety. Forms may be obtained from the student’s counselor, Mrs. Windland and/or the Associate Principal.

Student Passes

Students must use their agenda passes whenever traveling from one place to another during class time; with the exception of the lavatory. Passes must be written in ink, include the student’s name, time of departure, date, and your legible signature or initials.

A sign out system for lavatory privileges shall be established in every classroom. Lavatory leave should not be a rotating door throughout the period. Only one student may sign out of class at a time.

No passes should be written for students to leave the class when there is 10 minutes or less remaining in the period.

Student Referrals

When a student begins to struggle in your class, begin by first meeting one on one with the student to help ascertain the cause. Follow up this meeting with the student by contacting the parent(s)/guardian, and informing them of the nature of the meeting and most importantly the outcome. If the student continues to struggle the follow steps should be taken sequentially:

(1) Request that the student attend your after school extra help

(2) Call the parent to inform them of your continued concern and establish a mandated number of days that the student will be required to attend your after school extra help. If the student does not show up to your extra help after it has been communicated to both the student and the parent, the student should be written up on a referral and the office will support their mandated extra help sessions.

(3) Should the student continue to struggle, the parent and student should be brought in for a meeting to help ascertain why their continues to be an issue with their success. It is imperative that the student be involved in the discussion as they are the one’s who have to be held accountable for implementation of any program to increase their learning. They need to buy into it or it won’t work.

(4) If the student continues to struggle passing exams and tests or with their writing skills a referral to the SST must be completed and returned to the Assistant Principal. The form must be completed in it’s entirety, outlining the completion of the steps outlined above, as well as documentation of their learning difficulty.

(5) At this point the SST may choose to work with either the teacher, to offer some additional instructional strategies that address the learning style of the student or they may choose another option to assist the student. In either case, the teacher needs to remain engaged in the plan to assist the student.

(6) Only the SST, with the assistance of the classroom teacher, may recommend further action beyond the classroom environment. Teachers may not recommend AIS or a CSE review to parents or students.

Study Hall Duty

Study halls are to be conducive to student learning, and therefore are to maintain a quiet atmosphere.

Students with pre-signed passes must first be present for attendance, and then sign-out of the room after the study hall teacher has signed their pass. Students must have a pre-signed pass in order to go to the library, or to see another teacher or class. (obtaining the pre-signed pass must be done prior to arriving). Students must sign-in and sign-out legibly with their full name utilizing the form available in the main office. Be sure students specifically identify the location they are going to and that his location matches the destination identified on their pre-signed pass. The time must be duly noted on the pass (time - not period or block).

No more than one student may sign out of the study hall to go to the lavatory. No passes from study hall to lockers!

TV programs may not be viewed during study hall, no may students utilize their MP3 players, iPods, or any other electronic device. It is imperative that we maintain an environment conducive to learning at all times.

Card playing is not allowed at all on school premises.

Students remaining in study hall should be encouraged to work productively.

Tardy to Class During The School DayStudents will receive a teacher detention upon their 3rd tardy to class, and on every tardy thereafter. Tardy's to class do not reset themselves each marking period, rather, they ac-cumulate throughout the school year.

Teacher Schedule Changes

There will be no schedule or room changes without the prior written approval of the building principal or assistant principal.

Teacher’s School Day

A staff member is to go to his/her mailbox at the beginning and end of each school day. Often, materials, special announcements and messages have been put in mailboxes after the close of school. Do not send students to pick up mail.

All teachers are expected to be in the building by 7:45 a.m. Homeroom teachers should be in their homeroom and have their homerooms open for students to enter by 7:50. If one anticipates being late to school, call the High School Main Office.

Teachers are asked to sign out/in on the form located in the Main Office when they leave the building during the school day.

Attendance at faculty meetings is mandatory unless other arrangements have been made in advance with the building principal.

Teachers who are involved in extra curricular activities or sports should make necessary arrangements with other advisors or coaches to supervise students when important parent conferences or faculty meetings are scheduled. Advisors or coaches will be excused as soon as possible from those conferences or meetings.

Anytime a teacher has a student stay after school, whether it be for extra help, detention, club or sports meeting, the teacher is responsible for supervising that student until the late bus arrival time at 3:40, if the student rides the bus.

Teachers and coaches should not transport students in their cars. School insurance does not cover you and puts you in jeopardy of being accused (by students/parents) of inappropriate behavior. You cannot be defended when you violate this direct order.

Textbooks

Please be sure all textbook numbers are recorded for each of your students on the appropriate form. This form is available in the main office (or you may create your own spreadsheet electronically). A copy must be kept through the close of school in June. Students not returning their books must then be written up on the Arrears form and submitted to the Associate Principal’s secretary.

Time Sheets

See Mrs. Haube in the main office for time sheets that cover extra assignments, such as, but not limited to: tutoring and chaperoning of dances.
