The workplace, jobs, and skill demands arechanging.



Digital Natives

³Different kinds of experiences lead to different

� it is very likely that our students¶ brains have

physically changed as a result of how they grew up



Who are the digital natives?

Our students today are all ³native speakers´ of thedigital language of computers, video games,instantaneous communication, and the Internet.

Those of us who were not born into the digitalworld but have, at some later point in our lives,

become fascinated by and adopted many or mostaspects of the new technology are Digital

Immigrants.



The Challenge

Digital Immigrant instructors, who speak an

outdated language (that of the pre-digital age), are

struggling to teach a population that speaks an

entirely new language



The characteristics of our students

Digital Natives are used to receiving informationreally fast.

They like to parallel process and multi-task.

They prefer their graphics before their text rather than the opposite.



Methodology

Today¶s teachers have to learn to communicate in

the language and style of their students.

� This doesn¶t mean changing the meaning of what is

important, or of good thinking skills.



What is Web 2.0?

The Internet itself is a series of interconnected

servers joined by a web of protocols to provide

mass communication and document storage.

Web 2.0 is an additional layer over the Internet

that allows people to interact with

information and be contentproviders. The Read/Write Web.



Web 2.0 Culture

Fills the web space with blogs, wikis, and online

collaboration tools.

Most of these tools are free and offer ´unlimitedµ

space.

For the most part, they also share whatever youpost to them with a global audience.
