‘RIGHT FIRST TIME - AND ON TIME’
With dedicated production houses in New Plymouth and Hawera we are able to pass on the benefi ts of economies of scale and combined resources to our many small and medium sized business clients.
Shane and Sharon Devlin created Graphix Explosion in the basement of their New Plymouth home back in 1995. By 2002 they had four staff working with them from their home which was getting a little crowded. The problem was solved by amalgamating with two well known and long established print businesses. Hawera-based Vision Print joined them in late 2002 and Aries Print in early 2003. The combined companies then had two premises and ten staff. These changes have taken the business from strength to strength and we now boast a nationwide customer base, along with leading edge print technology in both the digital and traditional offset markets. August 2008 saw the next step in the evolution. Peter and Joan Shore retired from Shore Print in Hawera. Vision and Shore Print have combined, moved into much bigger and brighter premises (opposite Pak’nSave) on Princes Street and re-branded as Graphix Explosion Hawera.
While growing Graphix Explosion we have always tried to keep the small business feel with attention to building relationships, listening to and learning from our clients and providing exactly what they need.
With our high volume digital presses as well as the most up–to-date conventional offset printing technology, we are committed to providing the very best printing options to our clients. Our team of highly qualifi ed printers and designers have over 200 years of combined industry experience. They are always expanding their knowledge and are totally focused on customer service.
Our diverse client base has told us that these are the two most important factors when purchasing printed items. We therefore offer our guarantee to ALWAYS be on time, and to GUARANTEE to get it right!

QUICK TIPS• Keep it simple: Ensure
letterhead design does not interfere with its purpose. For instance, a dark design in the middle of the letterhead will interfere with readability. Make sure that there is adequate writing space between the header and footer.
• Aim for consistency. Ensure that your letterhead is consistent with your company image and all other marketing material.
• Consider a follow-on sheet. It looks more professional than printing on the back of your letterheads or printing on a blank piece of paper.

>>Letterheads & Compliment SlipsMORE THAN JUST A LETTERHEADEvery time you send out a piece of correspondence it should say more than what is written or typed on the page. It should visually communicate your corporate image in such a way that it reminds clients and potential customers of your professional and reliable services. Your letterheads can be used for all sorts of things such as newsletters, product sheets and quotations.
We can tailor your letterheads for any purpose. For instance we can easily turn your letterheads into invoices or statements by overprinting your gst number along with your terms and conditions – we can also perforate them if required.

QUICK TIPS• Establish credibility.
When producing marketing material, match it to your target audience. If your client spends a lot of money with you, don’t hand them a low cost black and white fl yer, give them something that will impress them – show them the value of doing business with you. Well designed, professional marketing material establishes credibility.
• Test and Measure. It is important to know whether your marketing material is effective or not. Measure the response you receive when putting your marketing material to work by asking your clients.

QUICK TIPS• Keep things simple.
Use the same font style throughout the fl yer to keep your message clear and easy to read. Vary font size according to importance.
• Using boxes. Use bars and boxes sparingly – they can be very effective to direct attention but should not be overused or they cause confusion.
• Use colour. Adding colour to a brochure can signfi cantly add impact, especially when your fl yer is compared to other fl yers.

QUICK TIPS• Be clear about the purpose
of your fl yer or poster. Use only words that serve that purpose. For example: it is often better to reduce the number of words but make the font size larger.
• Highlight key points. Make your key points bolder and brighter than the rest, to direct the audience’s attention.
• Proof read. Always proof read your fl yers before printing to avoid mistakes. Better still, have someone independent proof read for you – they are more likely to spot errors.

QUICK TIPS• Plan ahead. As a general
rule it takes 3 days for digital and 10 days for offset printing from approval to print. So don’t leave it to your last piece of printed material before re-ordering.
• Learn from your competition. Read your competitors’ booklets to see how you can stand out from them. Identify and highlight what you offer that they don’t, and to see what mistakes they have made that you can avoid.

QUICK TIPS• Be professional. Use
booklets to re-enforce how professional your company wishes to be seen – don’t go cheap!
• Additional content. Unlike fl yers, booklets allow you more space to describe your services or plans for the future. Readers often give more time to read booklets than they do fl yers.
• Make it easy. Ensure your booklet is read by everyone by avoiding the use of a tiny font – some people want larger fonts to read!

QUICK TIPS• Get in early. Don’t leave
it till the last minute. Avoid the Christmas rush. Start thinking about your Christmas gifts early, and order your cards in November to avoid disappointment.
• Utilise the space on the back. Use the space on the back of your Christmas card to let your customers know your holiday opening hours.

Christmas cards are a cost-effective way to thank your customers for the business they have given you and to wish them all the best for the next year. We can print your company logo in full colour which helps to reinforce your brand in your customers’ mind. Our cards aren’t just for businesses. We also print cards that you can send to family and friends. By using your own image and message you can create a unique and memorable card which won’t be the same as any other cards they receive. The cards are printed on high quality matt ivory board which produces an excellent print fi nish and is easy to write on. It usually takes fi ve working days to print and all our cards are supplied with matching envelopes. This means you have less to worry about at the busiest time of the year for most people.Once you have chosen from our large selection of cover images (or one of your own), we have devised a simple three-step process to make ordering as easy as possible:

QUICK TIPS• Stand out. If your
competition doesn’t present their proposals in a folder, use a presentation folder to stand out and increase your chances of success.
• Make them durable. Ensure your folders are stain-free and not fl imsy.
• Don’t distract. Great presentation folders need to balance being noticeable with not detracting from the information inside. It is the content inside the folder that deserves the most attention, not the outside cover only!
Other things to consider• Logo design• How to decide quantities• Specifi c colour matching• Print stock management

Presentation Folders are a must when you need an edge with a tender or quote or need to make a great fi rst impression.Stand out from the crowd with a personalised presentation folder. It costs a lot less than you would imagine.Graphix Explosion has developed a unique two-piece presentation folder. The benefi t of this design is to dramatically reduce the price structure. Quantities of as few as 25 are now viable as previously the minimum cost effective amount was 500 units.
Our new design allows us to mass produce the back panel and digitally print the front panel separately as required. The join is barely noticeable and the fi nished product is superb.

The difference between good marketing material and sensational marketing material is time, cost, how well it’s written, quality of the graphics and the ability of the designer. It also helps to write a project summary for your marketing material so that you have a fi rm starting point.1 Project summary When you have the answers to the following questions, developing your
marketing material will be easy. What is its purpose? What are you trying to achieve? What image do you want to portray? Who is your target audience? What information do you have and need? What is your timeframe? What is your budget?2 Timeframe If you have a deadline that you absolutely must meet, it is vital that you check
with us to fi nd out how long it will take from concept to design to the fully fi nished product.
3 How much to spend When working out how much to spend on your marketing material there is a
formula to use, but there are so many variables in this formula, it can be a little tricky. To help you, one of us at Graphix Explosion will sit down with you and go over all of these variables to make sure you are not over or under spending on your marketing material to achieve the results you want. This is a free consultation for up to one hour.
4 Make sure it is well written Often the best person to write the information or copy for your marketing
material is yourself because you know your own business. However, using a skilled copywriter to critique your work ensures it is well written and targeted at your specifi c audience.
5 Use quality graphics There is no doubt that good photography and graphics make a powerful impact
so if you are including photographs, engage the services of a professional photographer.
6 Work with experts When it comes to the ability of the designer, so often we see design work that
has been put together by inexperienced, untrained people and it just doesn’t look good or do what it’s supposed to do. At Graphix Explosion we have a dedicated team of design experts that will work with you to make sure your marketing material is not only designed to the highest degree but also communicates effectively for you and portrays a professional image of you and your business.
Include who you are, what you do and where you are.
• Who you are –Your logo and business name, your name and your title or your role in the business.
• What you do – If your business name doesn’t say what you do, consider including a one-line summary of what your business does or a slogan that says what sets you apart from your competition.
• Where you are – Your appropriate contact details in order of importance, with emphasis on your fi rst point of contact. For example – If you are a rep on the road, your mobile phone number will be your clients’ fi rst point of contact and needs to be emphasised. If you are a destination store, your physical address will be most important and should come before any other contact details.
Include the same information that you have on your business card, apart from your personal details.
• Who you are – Your logo and business name.
• What you do – If your business name doesn’t say what you do, consider including a one-line summary of what your business does or a slogan that says what sets you apart from your competition. You might also like to include a brief product or service listing, although you can over do it, so try to avoid cluttering up your letterhead by including too much information.
• Where you are – Your contact details - telephone number, fax number, website address, mailing address, physical address.
Note: Your personal details are generally included at the close of your letter with your name, title or role, and direct contact details such as your email address, direct phone number and mobile phone number.
In an increasingly visual marketplace, having a professional logo design is key to achieving success. Our highly creative design team understands what makes a logo successful and is able to update your existing logo, or design you a completely new logo that is an effective identity for your business.

Explosive Tip!
As a general rule between 3 to 9 months worth of printed material is a good amount to buy. Less than 3 months often means you do not make good use of the economies of scale. More than 9 months and you run the risk of having to throw printed material out because contact details or important information has changed and you also tie up valuable cash fl ow by unnecessarily buying too much in advance.
Obviously you are the best person to make the fi nal decision on quantities ordered. Please note that every product has a range of quantities to aid you in making an informed decision.
Our aim is to advise you of what is the best quantity and value for money for your specifi c business.
There are three basic types of printing. The method used infl uences how accurate the colours will be.
Printing with spot coloured ink on our offset presses is the most accurate way to achieve specifi c colour matches.
Full colour (or process CMYK) printing on our offset presses is more fl exible but less accurate. We will do our best, but it is virtually impossible to get an exact match.
Digital colour is easier than CMYK offset but there are also often issues with colour accuracy.
All three methods give great fi nished results, it is just a case of picking the right method and the right price for each printed job, knowing the limitations of the printing method.

There is a large range of binding and fi nishing services available, we make sure your projects and documents always create the best impression with your clients and customers. Our dedicated bindery and fi nishing department has the ability to fold, crease, perforate, number, staple, pad, collate and guillotine your printed material. We are able see each project through from conception to fi nished product, all in-house.
There is no real difference in quality between digital and offset with our modern print machinery, so there are only two factors to consider – urgency and cost effectiveness.
