Obituary

Florence Jamerson McCamey, a native of Macon, Georgia, was born on August 10, 1934. She passed away at the age of 82, August 15, 2016, after declining health and a brief hospitalization.

She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, friend, and a school teacher for over 40 years.

Florence was a graduate of Clark College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, a Master of Arts degree in Learning Disabilities from Atlanta University and Educational Specialist certification in Leadership from Georgia State University.

Along with her teaching experience, she worked as a Merchandiser for American Greetings.

Florence was a long-standing member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she served as a Deaconess, Usher, in the Uplifters Club and the Service Guild. She was an enthusiastic Life member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and 23rd Basileus of Epsilon Zeta chapter. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years and touched the

lives of many children in various ways. She traveled extensively throughout the United States, Caribbean and all seven continents except the Antarctica.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend & Mrs. A. H. Jamerson, and sister, Josephine Jamerson.

Florence’s survivors include: two sons, Jonathan DeKoven McCamey (Marilyn) of Burien, Washington and Jamerson Dean McCamey of Atlanta, Georgia; goddaughter, Ruby Regina Hall of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Victor C. Hall III, Jonathan DeKoven McCamey, Jr., Alexis Victoria McCamey, Jamerson Dean McCamey, Jr.; brother, Angus Jamerson (Doris) of Villa Rica, Georgia; sister, Betsy Quinn of Macon, Georgia; sister-in-law, Linda M. Russell Hill; brother-in-law, Gregory J. Russell; two nieces, Rita Hutchins and Wendy Jamerson; cherished friend, Larry P. Dozier; other nieces, nephews and cousins.

LEADER: Almighty God, Sweet Comforter, we come with praise and thanksgiving on our lips and in our hearts.

PEOPLE: All praise, honor and glory to Your Holy Name, O God.

LEADER: Lord, we come to celebrate one of Your creations named Florence J. McCamey.

PEOPLE: Thank You, Father, for the opportunity to share in the life of this mother, grandmother, sister, friend, teacher and church member.

LEADER: We remember Florence for her tender heart which she expressed by sending birthday, get-well, thinking-of-you and sympathy cards to her church family. She was our Sunshine Committee.

PEOPLE: Thank You, God, for those who are thoughtful and tenderhearted.

LEADER: We remember Florence for her dedication and commitment to the Deaconess Board, the Sunday School, and the Service Guild.

PEOPLE: Thank You, God, for those who are committed to the service of humankind.

LEADER: We remember Florence for her special gift of calling all the members of her Sunday School class early Sunday morning to remind them to come to Sunday School, even

when she was unable to come.

PEOPLE: Thank You, God, for those who are committed and dedicated.

LEADER: We remember Florence for her not so tactful method of expressing her thoughts to those whose behavior displeased her.

PEOPLE: Thank You, God, for those who are not afraid to be candid.

LEADER: Lord, we remember Florence as a dedicated teacher who loved children and spent a major portion of her life teaching and tutoring children.

PEOPLE: Dear God, we thank You for those like Florence who give of themselves to train our children.

LEADER: Holy Father, we ask that You will forever keep us mindful of the contributions others have made to our lives and the lives of others.

ALL: Thank You for the gifts You give us through others. Lord, may we be inspired to more diligently seek to do Your Will as we recall what others have done in Your Name.
