FiftyForward College Grove Dec 2013 newsletterTRANSCRIPT
RIDE OUR “COOL CAT” FLOAT IN THE CHRISTMAS PARADE On Sunday, Dec. 1, we are going to
enter a float in the College Grove Christmas
Parade. Our theme is: “We’re not Old Birds —
We are Cool Cats!” And, to illustrate the message,
our float will be decked out with two 7-foot tall
figures — one of a bird, the other of a cat.
The larger-than-life statues were formed by Sarah and
her neighbor for a Farmer’s Market project. They are too cool!
We hope that several members will want to ride the
float, and that many others will be there to cheer us from the
street.
We will gather at the Center at 12:15. Be sure and
dress warmly, and bring a lap blanket if need be. If it
rains, or the temperature dips below 30°, we will cancel.
RED HAT SOCIETY TO VISIT SOUTHERN CARE ASSISTED LIVING The Red Hat Society will spread a little Christmas cheer on Wed., Dec. 4th with
Christmas cards and carols for residents of Southern Care Assisted Living in Franklin.
The van will leave the Center at 9:30 a.m. Van fee is $4, and the Red Hats will decide
where to have lunch.

HOLIDAY MUSIC BY JACKI RUMPP FOR DECEMBER POTLUCK Our guest for Birthday Potluck this month is a singer/songwriter who lives
right in our midst. Her name is Jacki Rumpp, and she has made Tennessee her
home for over five years. Some of you already know
Jacki through her work at the College Grove UMC.
As worship leader, she leads the congregation in sing-
ing, chooses much of the music, and sings special
music there regularly.
Join us Wednesday, Dec. 18, as Jacki helps
usher in the Yuletide spirit by performing some best-
loved Christmas carols and songs.
Lunch is at 11:30. Music at noon. The Center
provides the main course. Please bring a side dish.
Most of us understand that
chiropractic therapy is a natural
way to approach aches and pains.
But some of us may shy away
from going to the chiropractor —
especially if we have ever been
“cracked” by one. That’s why our
Office Manager, Pat, recom-
mended her chiropractor, Dr. Paul
Patterson, to be a guest speaker.
While Dr. Patterson cer-
tainly can use the technique that
produces the cracking sound — a
specific, highly-accurate thrust —
this is not the only tool in his kit.
He is more likely to use the
“Activator,” an instrument that de-
livers carefully directed energy.
Or he may apply a slow, constant
pressure to achieve alignment.
Dr. Patterson will give us
more information about the tech-
niques he uses, as well as which
medical issues that chiropractic
therapy can treat. Plus, Pat is go-
ing to be his guinea pig, which will
make it fun.
Join us Thursday, Dec. 5.
We’ll have lunch ($4) at 11:30,
and Dr. Patterson will speak at
noon. Please sign up.
FROM THE DIRECTOR… A big thank you to all our
volunteer bakers and cooks who
helped make our Pancake Break-
fast and Bake Sale successful.
We made $1000 that will benefit
the programs at FiftyForward
College Grove. We could not
have done it without the work of
our dedicated volunteers.
There is still time left to
renew or join the Center at a dis-
counted price of $70 through
Dec. 31, 2013. If you wait until
the first of the year, membership
cost is $75. Join us Wednesday,
Dec. 4 at 8:30 a.m. for our an-
nual Membership Breakfast and
sign up with us.
As you read in the lead
newsletter article, we need volun-
teers to ride the FiftyForward
College Grove float in the Col-
lege Grove Christmas Parade
Sunday, Dec. 1. Ride with us as
we spotlight our Center for the
community. It is a great theme
with great float decorations. No
work is involved for you except to
ride and wave to the crowd.
Please let the staff know if you
are interested in riding.
Happy Holidays!

If you’re curious about
Nashville’s new Music City Center,
then make plans to come with us on
Friday, Dec. 6. We’ll see for our-
selves what all the hullabaloo is
about. The MCC’s “Guest Experi-
ence Manager,” Regina Hicks, will
take us on a guided tour of the
building, which includes:
• 353,143 sq. ft. of exhibit
space
• the largest Grand Ballroom
in the state, with 57,500 sq. ft.
of space
• 18,000 sq. ft. Davidson
Ballroom
• 60 meeting rooms that oc-
cupy 90,000 sq. ft.
Our tour will require a bit
of walking — so be sure and wear
comfortable shoes! Regina has
planned to have one wheelchair
available, in case someone wants to
ride for a while. But let Libby
know ahead of time if you want to
request an additional wheelchair,
for yourself, or to share with a friend.
As an added bonus: It looks
like a group from FiftyForward’s
Madison Station will be taking the
tour with us.
