Dear Chamber Members,
What a treat this fall season
has been!!! Southwest Wis-
consin is a destination for
many visitors who want to
experience the fall colors, the
Mississippi River and the
winding country roads. Our
staff here at the Chamber/
Travel Wisconsin Welcome
Center is more than ready to
direct travelers where to go
and things to see while they
are here. We have a lot of
information about wine festi-
vals, fall festivals and bazaars
that are so popular this time of
year. Stop in and check out
some of the great things going
on right in your own back
yard.
As the official “Fall Color
Reporter” for Grant County, I
am charged with updating the
Department of Tourism web-
site weekly on the status of our
color. It is a great opportunity
to promote activities that are
taking place in the area. Tens
of thousands of people receive
the “Fall Color Report” update
each week so this is a great
way to put the spotlight on
Platteville!
We are looking forward to our
annual Chamber/UW-
Platteville Homecoming
Breakfast on Wednesday, Oc-
tober 2nd at 7:00AM in the
University Rooms in the Pio-
neer Student Center. Present-
ers will be Chancellor Shields,
Chamber President Tim Boldt
and Chamber Vice President
Jaime Collins.
The Chamber Board of
Directors will be spending time
on October 30th at our Retreat
discussing chamber
programming, rebranding proc-
ess and our three focus points:
Promotion, Education and
Tourism. The outcome will
assist with setting our 2014
goals and beyond. If you have
comments for the Board, please
let us know. We appreciate the
partnership of our members!
The 4th annual Driftless Film
Festival is set for November 7-
10th and one of the venues will

nament.

teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumula-
tive team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

HOW CAN MY BUSINESS PARTICIPATE? Open to Chamber Member Businesses Only
Requires donation of a prize to the auction (minimum value of $50)
Participating businesses will be promoted as presented on reverse of this sheet
Must have a dated receipt available for customers that identifies your business (Can be stamped on back)
To be listed on poster & auction catalog, business must make sponsor commitment by: Friday, November 8
Promotion begins with our business Holiday Open House on Friday November 22, 2013 and runs through
December 31, 2013. Receipts must be dated and issued during this period.
Auction is held on Saturday, January 4, 2014.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:
1. Customer comes into your business & purchases merchandise/services, etc. and receives a dated receipt
identified with your business name.
2. Customer presents receipt(s) at the Chamber office and receives official “Santa’s Bucks”. Each receipt is
rounded to the nearest $10. The minimum purchase per receipt is $10.00.
3. Qualifying amounts do not include sales tax. Maximum Bucks per receipt = $500. (For example, if you
make a major purchase in the amount of $1500 - and receive one receipt - you will receive a maximum of
$500 in Santa Bucks). Customers may turn in multiple receipts at the same time or redeem them one receipt
at a time. Other rules apply.
4. A special stamp will be used to “validate” the customer’s receipt (so there is no duplication). Customer
retains receipt and is given the appropriate number of Santa Bucks These Santa Bucks are the only “legal
tender” for the auction.
5. The Auction will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2014. Santa Bucks will be redeemed at the Chamber
office during their regular office hours only up until noon of Wednesday, January 8th, 2014
The Santa’s Bucks promotion was developed to encourage “shopping locally”, especially
during the holiday season. We want you to know that support of our local businesses is
our utmost priority!

PLATTEVILLE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BOARD OF DIRECTORS August 21, 2013 MINUTES
Those present: Boldt, Bahr, Cullen, Collins, Dreessens, Patnaude, Rupp, Sigwarth, Thompson and Kopp. Absent: Cramer,
Holl, Lueder, McWilliams, Olds and Osterholz. Also present – Barb Stockhausen, City Council.
President Boldt called the meeting to order. BeMobile and American Bank were acknowledged as our August beverage
sponsors.
Sigwarth moved to approve the board minutes from the July 17th meeting. Cullen seconded. Motion carried.
The financial report was presented through July. Dues are at $73,203.50 and our anticipated budget is $77,000. More dues
have been deposited in August. It was noted that there may be some additional revenue/expenses for the golf outing that are
reflected in August, but at this time our net is about $9,000. The hog roast has not been finalized yet either but it is projected
that we will make about $6,000 on that event. Total receipts are at $158,475.85 which includes $21,471.49 from room tax.
Expenses against room tax are at $37,945.78. The second quarter room tax check will be coming from the City and totals
slightly over $16,000 so we will be operating at a deficit until November when the third quarter check is received. Total ex-
penses are at $134,980.44 for net income of $23,495.41. This amount does not reflect the receipt of PAACE intern expenses
that will be reflected in August financials. That amount is over $10,000.
Old Business: Collins gave an update on the rebranding process. The results of the membership survey that was electronically
sent out were distributed to the Board. There were three ideas of our ‘internal promise’ that were highlighted: “A vital catalyst
for community prosperity”; “Moving Forward Together”; and “Growing Community Together”. The one that received the
most favorable responses was “A vital catalyst for community prosperity”. The creative piece comes next with a logo and tag
line.
There was discussion about using the October board retreat as an opportunity to work on this. It was felt that perhaps at the
September meeting, the board will have an opportunity to review some possible logos and tag lines.
There was discussion on the board retreat. It will be Wednesday, October 16th and we typically meet for a full morning, ending
with lunch. It was suggested that we invite Jim Morgan from WMC to return so that he can see the results of our retreat last
year and see if he has examples of how some other chambers have handled their rebranding processes.
We have an opportunity to participate in a “First Impressions Community Visit” with Baraboo. Todd Johnson from UW-
Extension will be assisting. Those indicating they would like to attend are Kopp, Boldt, Rupp, Bahr and Stockhausen.
New Business: The New Student Welcome is set for Friday, August 30th from 4-6PM. We are hosting a “Parents Reception”
at 3:30PM at the campus. The 16th Annual Historic Re-enactment and 66th Dairy Days event are scheduled for September 6-
8th. The Chamber will have a float in this year’s Dairy Day parade. The theme is “Going Green in 2013”.
The Museum Task Force’s report was discussed. It was agreed that we need to be ‘kept in the loop’ as the tourism entity.
Executive Director Report: We have made the $1,000 donation to PCA from the proceeds from the hog roast. Kopp wel-
comed the new teachers at the Platteville Schools. We will be welcoming the new UWP faculty and staff today. The local
Economic Development Group (PBII, SWTC, PAIDC, Chamber, Main Street, GCEDC and UWP) agreed to host an
“Economic Development 101” session which will be put on by WEDA. A PAACE intern has produced a series of community
economic development interviews for the community that is now on YouTube. The Main Street Program will be holding their
annual meeting tomorrow evening as part of the last Music in the Park series for the summer. Board members were encour-
aged to attend.
Committee Reports: Successful ribbon cutting was held at Riniker Rhythm last week. We will be doing a ribbon cutting for
Anytime Fitness on September 3rd.
Meeting adjourned at 8:40AM.
Next meeting is Wednesday, September 18th at 7:30AM at Pioneer Ford.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Kopp
