President Bob Ripp called the meeting to order. Sergeant-at-Arms Nick Bazzicalupo led the Pledge of Allegiance, which was followed by a moment of silence in memory of our deceased members and those serving in the military.

Vice President Pat Sullivan introduced guest speaker Diane Baumert-Moyik, Senior Manager, Communications, Aircraft Systems, Northrop Grumman Corporation.

In her opening remarks, Diane extended greetings from the senior management of Northrop Grumman and stated that the company “wants to build upon the great legacy of the Grumman employees. We are who we are today because of this legacy.

She announced that there is a competition for talent in the aerospace industry. Northrop Grumman is hiring throughout the country and internationally for a many positions: engineers, HR, Quality personnel, etc. Diane encouraged our members to tell interested people (with the level of talent that the Grumman retirees represent) to apply at the company web site: www northropgrumman.com.

Diane made several announcements regarding the status of former Grumman programs as well as significant upcoming anniversaries. The E-2D is the fourth-generation E-2 aircraft with sales to the US Navy and France; the 30th anniversary of the first flight of JSTARS in April of this year; the 50th anniversary of the moon landing in July 2019.

Diane reported that the company is embarking on a new project to inventory, archive, and digitize the Grumman History Center. This project is in the inventory stage: trying to determine how to present and preserve 89 years of history. Digitized material will be put on a newly created web site. Key physical items will go to the Cradle of Aviation, in new space designated for Grumman history. Some paintings will be loaned to the Nassau County

Thirty-four members and two guests attended our February 20th meeting. Our guests were Willie Dement and his wife. Bill was night supervisor back in Plant 4 in Bethpage. All of us who worked on E-2C remember Bill from our pre-1995 days. Bill and his wife spend some winter months in Jensen Beach, FL. and drove up to visit us. It’s always great to see an old friend who is enjoying retired life.

Fred Bauer led us in the Pledge and a prayer. Then off to the buffet we went.

Calling the meeting to order, Fred mentioned the cruise that he and Marge were on in January. He reminded us of several other upcoming fun trips available through Tom Foley and his wife Corrine [[email protected]]. Tom and Corrine find many bargain trips and can help you with any trip you might consider.

Fred had a message from Jacqueline Jeransky of NGC Public Relations announcing this year’s airshow at Melbourne, on March 24-25. A show by the Thunderbirds performance team will take place and more. While NGC is the title Sponsor, it will not be selling tickets. Discount tickets are available online. (20% off for NGC employees, retirees and military partners. Use discount code NGC20 at tickets.completeticketsolutuions.com.) The event will be held at the Orlando-Melbourne International Airport, which is across from the NGC campus.

Birthdays for February: Audry Umbach, William Lainhart, Josephine Soldt, Donald Schroeder, Betty Rosone, Linda Long, Robert Lynch, John Dengler, Tom Shaughnessy, Lynn Wright. Sandra Drajina, Linda Johndro, and Teri DeMarzo.

Attendees included; Ted & Diana Martines, John & Fran Zinna, Bob Nyberg, and Pete & Joan Goldblatt.

After Ted lead the group thru the Pledge of Allegiance, John stated that our treasury remains healthy. However, the response to last month’s call for comments from Chapter members regarding future meetings was spotty, with only six of fifteen members responding.

Those present discussed chapter meetings, locations, meeting days, times and frequency. Our long discussion included lessons from other aging chapters and their solutions to similar issues.

We decided to conduct our last meeting of the 2018 winter season on March 14th, at Pier 22, at Noon.

Our first Fall meeting will be on October 9th, at Noon, with the location to be determined, but most likely at a venue near the University Town Center. Chapter members will be contacted in advance via email and the Club newsletter.

Currently, ten of fifteen members have submitted dues ($15.00) for 2018. Those who have not paid are reminded that - if they desire to continue receiving the Club newsletter - they will have to forward a check for $13.00 directly to the Bethpage chapter. All 15 members will continue to receive chapter communications via email.

Our February 13th meeting at Golden Corral in Punta Gorda had 14 people in attendance. In addition to our retiree regulars, we had Tony and Celeste Perre’s daughter, Pat, and her husband, Jim, join us. They came directly from the airport after a flight from Long Island.

As Golden Corral is under new management, we had employees Ryan and Joe explain some of the improvements incorporated into their restaurant; such as hand sanitizing stations and individual utensil set-ups which we appreciated. Lunch is now $12.

After our Pledge, prayer and reading of the previous minutes by President Clem Moors, we sang Happy Birthday to John Vecchione, Tony Perre, Tina and Earl Thompson. Earl will be 90 Saturday.

Treasurer Tony Moors reported all dues paid and sent to Bethpage. We still have 22 members after losing one and gaining Joe Cubells.

We discussed the unusual airplane picture that Peter Harrington sent with his email meeting reminder.

FLORIDA / Treasure Coast

Our February 15 meeting was held at Manero’s Restaurant.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Werner Bols, and Ken Tolve led our group in prayer. Vice President Werner Bols introduced our speaker, Victoria Peyton. Victoria was promoted this week to Assistant Vice President at Martin Health Foundation. She has been with Martin for four years. Prior to Martin, she worked at the American Cancer Society for eight years and at the American Heart Association for four years.

Victoria spoke of plans for expanding three sections of the facility. The ED area will be expanded from 11,536 to almost 23,000 square feet. The Nurses’ Station will have 15 private exam rooms. The innovative lounge “will be a first-class airport lounge area.” Two spacious critical rooms will be available.

Plans for Martin Medical Center include building large patient towers and going to all private rooms. Progress is already in motion, as the Stuart City Commission approved a development agreement in December, allowing Martin Medical to raise some of its buildings above the city’s four-story height limit.

They will be hiring more personnel for the expansion.

Anniversaries: Claude & JoAnn Rathgeber (53 Years)

Visitors: Anne & Paul Kalosk; June Schlock; Nick Maniscalco & Marie

Eastern Carolina Chapter

Our first meeting of the year was held on February 13th, at the Golden Corral Restaurant, on Route 17 in Jacksonville, NC. Unfortunately, there was some confusion on the date as the meeting was originally planned for Wednesday, February 14th (Valentine’s Day), but the restaurant was unable to accept reservations for that popular day and some members didn’t realize the date had changed. We had to eliminate the Treasurer’s report and the 50/50 drawing as a result. However, we did have 13 members present, with Tom Schroder and Jim Karika as Directors. Thank You, Tom and Jim. Tom opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, which was followed by a warm Invocation given by Dottie Karika, Jim’s wife. President Pete McNamee brought a copy of two articles that appeared in the local Hampstead, NC newspaper, the Pender-Topsail Post & Voice, that he received from Allen & Dolores Brown for review by members. The articles describe in some detail the aviation career of Artie Miller in his early years: living near Roosevelt Field on Long Island; in the Navy during

WWII; and his long Grumman career, which began in 1941. Artie is a long time, charter member of our Chapter who all members know affectionately for his kindness and friendship. Artie recently celebrated his 97th birthday and, unfortunately, his health is beginning to fail. Please keep him in your prayers. Since there wasn’t any business to discuss, everyone went to the numerous food tables to select lunch from the wide variety of delicious items available. Most of us made two or three trips and probably had no need for dinner that evening. After lunch, Pete read the birthdays and anniversaries for both January and February, closed the meeting, and thanked everyone for coming. Birthdays: 1/3 - Robert Glowacki and Michael Savastio; 1/5 - Frank Bollero; 1/6 - Joan Willemsen; 1/12 - Vynne Wendel and Marlene Wiehl; 1/14 - Bernadet Bird; 1/31 - Evelyn Erath; 2/1 - Audrey Bollero and Helen Guarino; 2/10 - Thomas Schroder; and 2/29 - Mary Olstad.

Anniversaries:1/1 - Diana & Irv Peterson; 1/2 - Kathleen & Bernard Kuntz, Inge & William Parker; 2/26 - Barbara & Ron Betts. Reminder - March meeting on Wednesday, March 14th at Paula’s Pizza in New Bern By: Peter McNamee [[email protected]]

Fred and Alberta Rademacher went to lunch at the Boat House in Hawley. on Thursday, February 15th. As you can see, it was only Fred and Alberta because the rest of us were either down with the flu, recovering from falling on the ice, or - in the case of Marianne Sparkowski - still recovering from her operation.

The weather here in NEPA was bright and sunny. A 100% turn-around from the day before when we had ice on the roads. Thanks to the ground hog for predicting six more weeks of winter!

Sickness Report:- Bob Zupp: Recovering from his fall on the

ice. - Marie Dowd: Down with the flu despite a

shot. - Marianne was in her doctor’s office and

received a very good report on the healing of her third operation. The open wound is now more than 50% closed, which is good news for only five weeks.

Birthdays for February: Joseph Belding and Marianne Sparkowski.

Anniversaries for February: Fred & Alberta Rademacher, and Bob & Judy Zupp.

Since Fred and Alberta were the only ones at lunch, no definite decision was made on the lunch for March. It is a toss-up between the Alpine Restaurant or the Mexican Restaurant, both in Honesdale. An e-mail to the NEPA people will be issued when the decision has been made.

Other than that, not much happening here in NEPA. Hoping and praying that the snow and ice are starting to lessen. Getting a little sick and tired of it

Stay safe.

SOUTH CAROLINA Coastal Carolinas Chapter

February 7, 2018

Our meeting was held at Brunswick Plantation 19th Hole, Calabash, NC. This was the first time that a meeting was held there. It seemed like everyone enjoyed the food and the facility. The members of the Club suggested that we try to get this place for another meeting. Unfortunately, the restaurant will soon be under new ownership so things are up in the air right now. But, we will continue to check; perhaps later in the year or next year we will be able to return. It was a good meeting, with 14 members and two guests attending.

President, Robert Joyce opened the meeting and introduced our guests from Long Island; Tony Zappig and John Friedrichs. Then Sergeant-at-Arms Nancy Webber led the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for prayer to remember the ones absent, our country, and especially the military.

Birthdays and Anniversaries: We have several birthdays this month, but no anniversaries. The birthdays for February: Tom Mugno, Lorraine & Ronald Giardin, Harold Katzenberger, Sylvia Stano, Marilyn Jelis, Mary Moran, Helen Timoney, and Don Webber. Happy Birthday to them all.

Secretary’s Minutes: It was moved that, since December and January minutes were sent to members, we would not read them again. This was voted on, seconded, and approved.

The Treasure’s Report was accepted as read, seconded, and approved.

Sunshine Committee reported as follows: - Carol Joyce having heart problems, but was still able to attend the meeting. - Dot Hoffman is not feeling the best. - Kathy Fleischer is finished with her treatments and hopes to attend next month’s meeting. - Mary Moran has had another stroke and is unable to drive.

- Geri Widmann is under the weather and could not attend the meeting. - Had a phone call from Sylvia Stano of Bluffton, SC. She wishes all well and hopes to make plans to attend one of our meetings this year.

50/50 Drawings Winners: $20 went to our visitor, John Friedrichs, and $7 was won by Angela Hodgman. Congratulations to our winners.

Old Business: - Reminder to pay 2018 dues. $15 for retirees and $5 for spouses, if they participate. You may mail a check, made out to Don Webber, to: Don Webber, 4713 National Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579. - Please wear your name tag at meetings. If you do not have one, please notify Don Webber. He will order one for you.

New Business: - We have a sign-in sheet at each meeting, so please make sure you sign in at each meeting. This way we will have a record of who is attending meetings, including visitors. - A Birthdays and Anniversaries Sheet was sent around at the meeting to verify that we have the correct information. If you were not at this meeting, please let the secretary know your birthday and/or anniversary. - A meeting place for our May 2nd meeting was discussed. It will be held at Ronald & Lorraine Giardin’s home in Myrtle Beach. Information to follow. - We discussed finding out about attending a show as a group, perhaps in November. One of the suggestions was the Christmas show at Alabama Theater. When more information is available it will be passed on to everyone. - Still trying to come up with speakers for our meetings. Any-and-all suggestions are invited and welcomed.

Next Meeting: Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Noon, at Olive Garden, (Across from Chapin Park), 1405 N. Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach. SC. [843-626-8856].

Central Virginia Chapter We were happy to get a little taste of Spring this month. The Pennsylvania Ground Hog is not always 100% right.

We hope you all had a Happy & Loving Valentine’s day. Our lunch was scheduled for 12:30PM, at Michie Tavern, on Valentine’s Day/the first day of Lent/Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018. We had eight members in attendance: Mary Anne Muller, Dot Marsh, Frank Edwards, Fred & Marjori Meiners, Benita Drexler, and Beverly & Frank Purstell. We will miss Maryanne at the next meeting since she will be Cruising, having a wonderful time. Our Treasurer reports that all is solvent. Maryanne informed us that Raymond Muller, her husband, passed away in early February. Ray has been in a nursing home for approximately four years. Ray was the Father of our Central VA Chapter, having started in when he and MaryAnne first moved to VA. We will all miss this Great Grumman Man. A donation was made by our Chapter, in his name, to the Lake Monticello Fire and Rescue Department. As you can see, our group is getting smaller in size with deaths and moves.

NOTE: Our next Luncheon Meeting (March 14) location has changed. Reason for the change: potential winter weather and distance (2.5+ hours driving time).

We will meet at 12:30PM at the Fork Union Village Restaurant, 4321 James Madison Hwy. Fork Union, VA 23055, Phone No. 434-842-3058. Directions: Take I-64 to exit 136 (US 15 S). Travel approx. 20 miles South of I-64, on US 15. About 1 mile past the Fork Union Military Academy, look for the BB&T bank on your left: Restaurant is on your right.

Following Meeting:April 11, 2018 at Edelweiss German Restaurant, Staunton
