ENROLLMENT TIME! Attached to this Chatter are your enrollment papers for the 2016/2017 school year. Remember, at this time, enrollment is open only to current church and school families. If you know a family new to First Lutheran School that

is interested in enrolling, have them call the school with their address, and we will mail them an enrollment packet that they can return beginning March 1, 2016 (when enrollment will open to new families). To hold your students spot, be sure to return your enrollment forms and 1/3 enrollment fee, and have your enrollment fee paid in full by April 30. If you refer a

family with a student in 1st 5th grades, and they remain enrolled through the first semester, in January of 2017 you will receive a $200 credit towards your tuition account! Tell your referred family to be sure and list your name as the referring

family on the enrollment sheet. Three families earned a $200 credit this school year just by referring friends! 2-PAYMENT TUITION REMINDER: If you opted to pay your tuition for the year in two payments, the second

half payment was due on January 31. If you need to switch to a monthly plan, please contact the office and let us know. FIRST LUTHERAN WOMENS GUILD SALAD LUNCHEON will be held THIS Friday, February 5, 2016 from 11:00 a.m.

to 1:00 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Prices are Adults $8.00 and children Pre-school-aged $3.00. Tickets are available from Guild members and in the church and school offices.

FUN DAY, SUNDAY! On Sunday, February 14 at 9:45 a.m., the First Lutheran Church Children's Sunday School Classes, 3 years old through 6th grade, will be having a bounce house fun day! All FLS students in our pre-school through 6th grades are welcome to join us in the gym that day!

DAYCARE SIGN-UPS: There is no school on Monday, February 15; if you need daycare that day, there is a sign-up sheet outside of daycare. We will only be open if we have enough need. If you sign up, you will be charged.

PTL MEETING: Our next PTL meeting will be Tuesday the 16th, 6:00 pm at Timilyn Cranks home: 309 N. 6th. All First Lutheran parents are members, and you are encouraged to attend.

SCRIP CARDS: The PTL has an assortment of scrip cards in the office, and we are trying to clear out some of the cards that arent local or best sellers and get them off of our books. Please look over the list of merchants (below), and if this is a place you shop/give gifts to, please stop by the office and purchase one of our gift cards. The PTL makes a profit on each gift card sold. We also have additional gift cards available in the office. Thanks for your support! Applebees Aeropostale

REGIONAL SPELLING BEE: First Lutheran hosted the regional spelling bee here last evening. We thank Emma and Donivan for representing FLS so well. We thank Mrs. Powell, Mrs. Schatte, and Mrs. Harbeson for serving as judges for this event. The winner of the regional bee was Wyatt Adams from Alva Middle School.

ACADEMIC MEET: The annual Oklahoma academic meet will be held in Broken Arrow on February 5. Each grade from 4-8 will send one team. Good Luck, Students.

TALENT SHOW: Get ready for First Lutherans annual talent show! The show will be presented on April 1. Auditions will be held on March 23. Audition applications will be available in classrooms beginning Monday, February 1. Were looking forward to seeing some great talent!

AUCTION FAST APPROACHING: Mark your calendars now for the school auction on April 16. This is a fun evening of dinner and shopping for adults. More events will follow in future Chatters.

SCHOOL STORE: We are again partnering with School Store Fundraisers. Informational packets went home today; ask your student or stop by the office to get another one if yours didnt make it. Through this program, parents/family/-school boosters can visit the website listed on the packet and register. While there, you have the option of purchasing a gift card that will be sent to your students teacher. The teacher then can use the gift card to purchase supplies for their classroom. We could also win the grand prize of a $100,000 playground and cash prizes for the students family.

Regardless of whether or not you purchase a gift card, your student will receive a free Light Up Wand just for you registering on the website. To get the wand, follow the instructions on the packet to register, fill in the student name and prize code on the front of the packet, and have your student (2nd & up) bring it to the school office first thing in the morning to get your wand. For students 1st grade and below, take your completed form to your students teacher first thing in the morning, and they will get it to the office and get your wand delivered to your student. Thanks for supporting FLS!

TAX STATEMENTS: If you would like a printout of your payments to First Lutheran School during 2015 for tax purposes, please stop by the office/send me a FastDirect-mail/or call the school at 762-9950. You can also print them off yourself by logging into your FastDirect account, scroll down to the bar that says 2007 Tax Year

Printout, change the year to 2015, and click the box that has Tax Year Printout in it. This will include school-related expenses only; summer daycare tax statements must be requested from daycare. Remember that not all payments to FLS are tax deductible, and you should contact a tax advisor to find out what can be written off, and what cannot.

TAX STATEMENTS FOR SUMMER DAYCARE should be requested from Daycare. The tax statements that you get through the office/that you can print yourself only include charges for the school year, not summer daycare.

USED COMPUTERS FOR SALE: If you are interested in purchasing one of the old working desktop computers from the computer lab, please see Mrs. Ryan. They are 2/$25. We also have laptop bags for $25 and used, working printers for $25. First come, first served.

SNOW DAY NOTIFICATION: In the event that school may be cancelled due to inclement weather, we follow Ponca City Public Schools schedule FOR WEATHER-RELATED CANCELLATIONS ONLY. Listen to your radio during the cancellation announcements, and if Ponca City Schools are cancelled, First Lutheran will be out, also; however, there will NOT be a separate announcement for First Lutheran. This only applies to weather-related cancellations; at all other times, follow the First Lutheran School Calendar. If you need a new one, or have any questions, please contact the office.

PRINCIPAL - Mr. Birnbaum: Joke of the week: What do you get when you cross a shark with a snowman? Answer: Frostbite Busy but proud: Final week of our hosting basketball tournaments, 8th grade night this Thursday, Salad Luncheon,

Academic Meet & Honor Band competitions this Friday, Mini-Cheer performance Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, and many other games and events. I am proud of all the students, staff, and parents that make all these things happen.

Student Teacher - Elizabeth Patterson from Northwestern University in Alva-Oklahoma, will be working here for the next 12 weeks. She is in her final year of studying to be a teacher. She will begin by working with Mrs. Kelly's PK-4 year old class observing and then teaching. For the last six weeks she will observe and then teach Mrs. Powell's second grade class. Please welcome this young lady to our educational program.

PRE-SCHOOL Mrs. Herard: It's February! Time for Show and Tell this Friday! (Hadley on Thursday). Don't forget that Th/Fri is also Pajama Day as we learn about the letter "P". There are still a few report cards that need to be signed and returned. In backpacks you will find a letter and paper quilt block that I would appreciate you decorating and returning when we have "Q" quilt week. Valentine Party on the 12th. Notes went home with details. If you still have questions, please let me know. This week we are learning all about penguins and the letter "P". I am very impressed with how the class is coming along academically. They love to learn!! God bless your week.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN - Mrs. Kelly: We would like to welcome our Student Teacher Elizabeth Patterson to our school and classroom! She visited us on Monday and will be here full time for six weeks starting on Monday. Look for the note from her in backpacks today. We had a great 100th day of school! We collected 285 cans and boxes of food for the church

pantry. Great job ECE! Show and Tell is this Friday, and book orders are also due to me or online this Friday. We will have our Valentine party on Friday, February 12th at 2:30. There is more information in backpacks today. Our Bible words this week are, We love because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19. We are learning the letter "O" and the number "13" this week. Have a blessed week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN Mrs. Flaherty: Please see the note that was sent home for our class updates. KINDERGARTEN Mrs. Miller: Happy Groundhog Day (yesterday)! The children had fun doing extra art projects for

this special day. We will have show and tell this Friday, please bring something that fits in the backpack. Wow, it is February and next week on Friday the 12th we will have our valentine party at 2:30 in the classroom. All parents are welcome to come. Our class has been reading a fun chapter book called "Because of Winn-Dixie". You can ask your child about the book! Have a blessed week!

FIRST GRADE Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory for Friday - I can do everything through Him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13. Our Valentine Party will be next Friday at 2:15. Parents are welcome to join us. The children will have a valentine exchange. Blessings on your week!

SECOND GRADE Mrs. Powell: Happy February! We've made some fine looking mailboxes for our Valentines and are excited to fill them up. We enjoyed a visit with Mrs. Patterson, who will be student teaching in our classroom beginning in March. We're already very fond of her. Thanks for the extra reading help at home. The increased confidence and independence really helps. Happy February Birthday to Brett, Mrs. Steichen, and Mrs. Schatte! God's Blessings, Dear Friends! Hug someone you love!

THIRD GRADE - Mrs. Steichen: Brrr.. bring back that nice warm weather; at least the groundhog didn't see his shadow so spring is coming soon! Thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes; I had a wonderful day and it was because your kids were great and treated me so well. This week: Spelling, Memory due on Friday. Next week: Valentine's Day party, Science test, and Math test early next week. Science review will be coming home later this week. Book Report information came home, please let me know if you have any questions. Also, if you Google the project you can see pictures of what others have done. Keep working on your multiplication facts. Have a wonderful week!

FOURTH GRADE - Mrs. Sibley: I hear that we are working hard on our Valentines Day Box for the contest. Keep the job reports going. We want to be some amazing things with the Lords guidance when we grow up. Some have volunteered to present their job reports early on the 11th. Is your child one of them? Remember to keep your real idea a secret, so on Valentines Day we will not know the real creator of the box. Book orders that are sent home today are due the 15th. Our January Book IT page total was 2,260! Keep reading to make those goals. We are half-way though. Please go over the midterms with students, and return within two days.

FIFTH GRADE - Mrs. Schatte: Blessings, everyone! We are quite busy here in 5th grade. Tests this week include spelling and reading on Friday as usual. Thursday is social studies test 5 and a quiz on the prepositions aboard-at. We will continue learning a list of prepositions until they are all memorized. Memory due tomorrow is Matthew 28:18-20. We wish the best to those representing our class in the Academic Bowl in Broken Arrow on Friday: Brynn, Madux, Haley, Savannah, and Jonathan. Go team!!

    MIDDLE SCHOOL 2/10 7:30 FLSCA 2/20 8th & 9th Grade Pepperette Winter Dance, 7:00, Hutchins 2/24 7:30 FLSCA

Mrs. Goll: Pre-algebra and Algebra students took tests today (Wednesday). Both groups are entering more complex territory and a little more study and care in work will go a long way to helping them be successful. Seventh grade general math is beginning a study of ratios and proportions; and sixth grade general math is winding up their study of proportions and percentages and will test early next week. As the year progresses, math becomes more complex. The skills of diligence and persistence will pay off in helping our students be successful in math (and in life)! Blessings on your week.

Mrs. Harbeson: Hello from middle school! I pray that you all are doing well! There's a lot going on right now. This Thursday evening (Feb. 4) is our 8th grade recognition night for all 8th grade basketball players and cheerleaders. I have sent a reminder about the night to all those players, cheerleaders, and parents who are involved through FastDirect. For the rest of us, please join us between the 6:00 and 7:00 games to honor these special young people. On Friday, a group of our middle school students will be headed out to compete in the academic bowl. Thank you to Mrs. Goll and all those parents

who are accompanying our scholars on this trip. Congratulations to those 7th and 8th grade band students who have been invited to participate in the Northern Honor Band this Friday and Saturday. God has truly blessed you with a special talent! To wrap things up, today marks the mid-point for our third 9 weeks! (Can you believe it?!) What that means is that everyone has exactly 4 and 1/2 weeks to either maintain their current grades or bring those grades up before we break for Spring Break. I pray for all of you to keep pushing yourself to learn as much as you can, get the best grades possible, and teach yourselves to work hard to accomplish your goals. You are all a blessing to me! Love to you all!

Mrs. Hanson: Thanks for all those who helped make last weeks tournament a success, especially Tomi Faulkner and Darleanna Warnecke! The next fundraiser will be distributed shortly. We will be selling Mixed Bag Designs.

We have FLSCA meetings twice this month! Next week and the 24th. Come join the collaboration! 7th grade and 6th grade will have vocabulary quizzes this week. 8th grade took a test yesterday on which I know

they did fantastic! With the Topeka tournament next week, make sure all your school work ducks are in a row. All middle school grades will be having the same memory for the next several weeks as we prepare for the Spring

Musical. This is an important grade and is considered in eligibility. Memory will be posted on my website, as always. Oh and one more thing..... GO BRONCOS! Mr. Covert: Were into February all of a sudden! The month of January just flew by. Were also getting very close to

Lent; its sneaking up on us with the early Easter this year. In 8th grade, were starting to look at the Civil War. Were covering the people and the sides involved in the

conflict, and the series of events that make up the Civil War. In 7th grade, were looking at North and South Europe, having finished up Western Europe last week. The 6th grade is looking at Roman civilization, and were about to cover the fall of the Roman Empire and what it left in its wake.

I pray that God continues to bless everyone in the FLCS family this week!
