Welcome TO THE DEBUT EDITION OF

CHIC MUSE

Ireland has been crying out for an answer to the many gorgeous subscription box services floating around the world and we felt it was time to create a club that you want to be a part of, that brings you new brands first, brands that are available in Ireland, while supporting local Irish businesses, not to mention the stellar Irish beauty brands available (we do of course have a few wild cards along the way!!). We have wonderful ranges available here and it is time to showcase them over the coming months!

We have spent countless hours trying and testing each of the five exclusive treats that make up the very first monthly Chic Treat Club Box (and this is called work!) while putting together a fun filled first edition of CHIC MUSE. We have had the pleasure of tapping into the infamous knowledge of award winner and international hair guru Kevin Murphy and getting some of his top tips while also digging deep with model and presenter Alison Canavan for the first of our skincare edits! Our beauty insider this month is the super talented makeup artist, Leonard Daly and of course there is the low down on your gorgeous treats.

We are also über excited to be launching our bespoke Yummy Mummy Treat Club ahead of Mother’s Day in March. This exclusive box

will be filled with beauty treats that will make moms feel pampered and preened and allow them some well-deserved ‘Me’ time! Made with the same Chic Treat Love, it will be a different club with a whole world other of products and design.

We are on a mission to inject A-List fabulousness into everyday life without breaking the bank and there’s plenty for you to drool over. Most of all we hope we inspire you to be more adventurous in your purchases, explore and experience each and every product, change up your beauty buys, support your local retailers and most of all to embrace all things beautiful, we guarantee you it’s a lot of fun!

To the team that have made this happen, Lucy, Daisy, Clark, Adam, Marie-Claire, Catherine & Emily thank you for going on this exciting journey, to our new found friends and club members, welcome and let the games begin!

With Chic Treat Love xxxP.S. Remember to follow us on twitter @chictreatclub #chictreatclub and facebook.com/chictreatclub

There’s no denying it, we are obsessed with all things beauty! It all started innocently before school, the obsession with lipstick, smearing colours of joy all over walls before graduating to lipstick on collars and so the love affair has continued. There is something wonderful about enjoying all things beautiful and it is so exciting to now finally introduce you to the first Chic Treat Box!

Top Trends for SS 14 Spring Summer 2014 is all about the skin. So a good base always helps! Use lots of light reflective products so that your skin will look radiant, almost like you have your own personal spot light. There are hundreds of products on the market that help you to achieve this look. Some of my personal favourites include Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate, Eclat Miracle from Lancome and Candle Light by Kevyn Aucoin.

Eye makeup is either super simple with one colour blended on your lid and also under your eyes or super bold using strong colours that almost look like they shouldn’t be there, think a strong bright blue with red accents. For me personally I’d always be drawn to the simpler one.

The Insider Beauty EditLeonard Daly is one of Ireland’s top freelance make-up artists and beauty consultants and we thought you would love to get the low down on his top trends and tips for the debut issue of Chic Treat Club. Leonard’s unique expertise and artistry are evident in his editorial work and in his collaborations with leading national and international fashion industry professionals and is reg-ularly featured on television and has had his work published in IMAGE, Irish Times and Weekender to name a few!

What is your top tip for make-up application? My top tip for applying makeup is to use your fingers as much as possible. Applying foundation with your fingers gives such an incredible finish, it almost looks like the product has melted into your skin, so becomes invisible!

What is the most common make-up mistake? The biggest mistake that I think people make all of the time is applying too much makeup, less is definitely more when it comes to makeup. If your foundation has a pump on it, one pump should be enough to do your face. Also always apply your concealer after you apply foundation.

“Your skin will tell a story about what’s going on inside”1. Keep your diet full of foods such as dark leafy greens, citruses and drinking plenty of water your skin will be less aggravated and your complexion will dramatically improve. Water is an essential nutrient that your body needs to replace the large amounts of water lost each day.

2. Getting a good night’s sleep and drinking less alcohol all contribute to overall better looking skin.

3. As the old saying goes “Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise”. Choose a good

cleanser, toner and moisturiser to suit your skin type. Serums

are also really important for the skin. Compared to your daily moisturisers serums often target a specific problem area and are used for a limited period of time. If you suffer from minor to major skin conditions get your skin assessed by a top

beauty expert who specialises in skin

problems, I keep the number for Nuala Woulfe

on speed dial when it comes to breakouts or skin pigmentation.

The Skincare Edit The New Year is a time for change. When everyone makes a devout promise to themselves to make a resolution that they will stick by. The gorgeous model, presenter and mom, Alison Canavan tells us how to beat those New Year skin blues with her first-hand approach to keeping skin healthy and hydrated.

With the dramatic change in weather many of us experience dry, flaky skin

on our lips. What do you recom-mend to beat this?

Funnily enough all you need is a toothbrush, sugar and Vaseline. Scrub on your lips gently to remove flaky skin. Remove any excess residue with a cotton pad or baby wipe. If

you don’t fancy that option La Roche Posay have launched CICAPLAST Lips

Repairing Barrier Balm for Very Dry Lips (€6.50). Lips will feel immediately relieved and

more supple.

What ingredients do you look out for when choosing skincare products? When choosing skincare products for your skincare routine check the ingredients on the packaging and ensure each product contains SPF. It is important to understand that the sun is just as intense in the cold weather as it is in the sunshine and is one of the most damaging fac-tors on the skin. Depending on your skin type it is important to keep ingredients as natural as possible. I love the Irish brand, ‘Human+Kind’ specialising in all-natural products and it’s always good to support Irish!

Do you think anti-oxidants are important for keeping skin looking younger?Absolutely. There are so many toxins in the at-mosphere that we need these anti-oxidants to repair damaged cells which are the primary cause of wrinkles and aging. There is an unlimited amount of anti-oxidant facials available in salons that are beneficial to the skin in repairing damaged cells. Akina Beauty Salon in Temple Bar uses Image Skincare Facials all of which are paraben free and yield unparalled results. ANIAN has a super anti-oxidant skincare range pumped full of goji-berries and pomegranates. I’m a big fan of anti-oxidant products!

During the Christmas break many of us

experience a lack of sleep which results in a puffiness under the eyes. Any tips to reduce this?

Every morning drink hot water with fresh cut

lemon. This will flush out all the toxins in the body. Also, REST REST REST! Nothing reduces puffiness like a good night’s sleep. Trilogy has an eye roller, CoQ10 Eye Recovery Concentrate (€28.95) which works wonders on puffiness.

In the beauty world of today there are numer-ous products that promise skin miracles when it comes to moisture, anti-ageing and suppleness. While no one has yet found the fountain of youth, Hyaluronic Acid is one active ingredient that makes a huge difference in the way you look and feel. With a new range of Hyalogic products recently hitting Irish shores, the Hyalogic range will improve the tone and appearance of skin by enhancing the skins ability to retain moisture and rejuvenating from the inside out.

First up from their collection is their Episilk Premium Lip Balm with Hyaluronic Acid. Formu-lated to plump and moisten dry, over chapped lips. Hyaluronic Acid is an important component of the collagen in lips and Episilk Lip Balm helps restore natural fullness and moisture and it’s now yours to enjoy!

Did you know? Hyaluronic Acid provides continuous moisture to the skin by binding up to 1000 times its weight in water!

Episilk Pure Hylaluronic Acid Lip Balm €8 14grm is available from independent retailers and www.pureha.ie

Holding, typing, washing ... your hands go through a lot on a daily basis. But they usually end up at the bottom of the pile when it comes to beauty routine. Even though we spend hundreds on anti-aging face serums and new and improved heat protectants for our hair, it’s easy to forget that our hands also show signs of aging -- even more so than our faces. Your hands tell a multitude!! Moroccan Argan Oil, known as liquid gold is a rich, nourishing oil and has long been used for its moisturising properties and hands receive a barrage of daily abuse and deserve a serious amount of

TLC! In today’s society weekly manicures are most likely a thing of the past for many but you don’t want to cringe when displaying a beautiful ring on dry, chapped hands with rough cuticles. The Inecto Pure Argan range has captured this ancient beauty secret to help lock in moisture for healthy looking skin, soft to touch. Inecto Pure Argan Nourishing Hand and Nail Cream is paraben free.

Inecto Pure Argan Nourishing Hand & Nail Cream 75ml €2.55 is available in leading pharmacies nationwide.

If you don’t want to blow dry your hair what’s the best thing to do to make sure it still looks good?Use a dry shampoo – FRESH.HAIR to refresh your style.

If hair is long, apply a styling product like a mousse to dry hair to help you smooth it down and slick it back into a sleek ponytail. Alternatively if you’re looking for some added body, apply a few rollers to dry hair, mist with a styling product (HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY) and blast with heat from your hairdryer, followed by a cold blast. This will ‘reset’ your hair and revitalise your style.

On short, choppy, undone styles just run your fingers through to revitalise and then add some texturiser or styling paste to ‘juge’ up and tease in to place.

What’s the best way to keep frizz at bay?

To help keep frizz at bay, without making hair greasy, apply a leave-in treatment oil to damp hair (not dry), which will help disperse the oil more evenly. If hair is very dry and frazzled, be more liberal

with application and if it’s fine, just apply at the ends

or where hair tends to frizz. Applying to damp hair is key!

What’s better for your hair, hair oil or intensive masks? Both products are good but they’re different. Some women prefer an oil while others prefer an intensive mask - so it’s more about personal choice. An intensive mask is usually something you leave on for as long as possible, they’re sometimes ‘processed’ with heat and then rinsed out. They’re usually associated with dry,

The Hair EditKEVIN.MURPHY is a fashion focused range of professional, hair care products created by Kevin to meet his needs as an editorial hairstylist. thicker, coarse hair, which needs moisture, repair, smoothing and control.

Hair oils are having a moment! They’re multi-tasking; suitable for all hair types; ideal for tackling damage caused by colour, chemical processing, the environment and straightening /curling irons; they help speed up the blow-drying process; smooth and detangle; help to control frizz; can be applied to damp or dry hair and are usually left-in for maximum benefit! KEVIN.MURPHY YOUNG.AGAIN leave-in treatment oil.

What are your top money saving tips to prolong colour?Use a sulphate-free shampoo, which is kinder to the hair. It might be a little more expensive than a shampoo that isn’t sulphate-free, but it will help prolong your colour.

If you usually wash your hair everyday try and limit it to washing every other day and alternate with a dry shampoo, FRESH.HAIR.

Make sure hair is in the best condition possible prior to having it coloured, which will help the colour ‘grab’ more evenly

Colour always takes better and lasts longer on hair that is in good condition. Treat regularly with a strengthening and moisturising treatment – it will be money well spent.

BEST BEAUTY ADVICE We are always keen to stay ahead of the game when it comes to beauty tips, advice and love to be groomed within an inch of our lives! So we decided to catch up with a few of our friends that know a thing or two about beauty and see what was the best piece of beauty advice they ever received or what their top beauty tips are.

Alison CanavanModel & Presenter The best beauty advice I ever

received was from Jo Wyckmans: Healthy on the inside, beautiful

on the outside. Good food, water and exercise make

your skin glow!

Holly CarpenterModel

I think creams and oils are important for good skin but I also think you should work from the inside out. My trainer Sophie told me to take Vitamin D with

every meal, because we don’t get enough of it here in Ireland. Ever since I started taking it my skin is so much clearer and brighter, the difference is crazy! I also increased my daily water intake to 3 litres of

water a day and it has helped my complexion a lot

Alex FizgeraldEditor of “Tatler Man”Never overlook the importance of

well-maintained nails. Grubby nails make a terrible first impression, so keep them

short and neat at all times. And don’t be afraid of the occasional manicure; it won’t compromise your masculinity but

it will give your hands a tidy appearance.

Darren KennedyTV Presenter & Columnist

As a man, shaving everyday can be quite intense on skin and can really deplete it of a lot of moisture and

natural oils; so my top tip when it comes to grooming is to give your face a breather when you can. If I have a couple of days off between shoots, I’ll not shave and

this definitely helps the skin’s natural balance and a healthy looking complexion.

Kathryn ThomasTV Presenter

My mum swears by cucumber circles for reinvigorating tired eyes; this coupled with plenty of sleep and

using a good foundation with SPF 20 built in. Also my own personal beauty

tip is to have at least one glass of red wine a week!!

Tara O’FarrellModel & Make-Up Artist The best advice I ever got was from

my mum when I was only 13! She said don’t ever touch your eyebrows, so

many young girls over pluck and ruin the natural shape of their eye brows. Leave them to a trusted professional when the

time comes to pluck!

Suzanne JacksonCreator of SoSueMe

The best piece of advice I ever got was to love yourself first and accept your flaws! After that you

will gain an air of confidence inside that is one of the most attractive things on the outside. While makeup can change our look and yes we all feel like a different person with makeup on, I adore makeup... but if you don’t love yourself first, then all the makeup in the

world won’t make you feel beautiful! So learn to love yourself inside!
