Manchester Central 4 – 7 December 2017 The Children’s Global Media Summit
2017 is set to be one of the most
important gatherings of the Children’s
Media sector in recent years. It
aims to bring together content
producers, technology providers
and platforms to begin shaping
the future direction for Children’s
Media in a digital age.
With some of the most iconic and well
regarded speakers in the sector as well
as some brand new research and cutting
edge content and technology, the
summit has the potential to be hugely
influential in the media sector.
Focusing on digital and covering all content consumed
by children not just the content made specifically
for them, the summit has been designed with young
audiences at its heart.
The summit has been commissioned by the World Summit
on Media for Children Foundation (WSMCF) and the City of
Manchester and BBC Children’s will be the hosts for the 1,200
delegates from around the globe who will descend on Manchester
in December 2017.
World Summits on Media for Children are held every three years and
provide a forum for producers, broadcasters, educators and regulators
and other professionals committed to the improvement of quality media
for children. The Summits have travelled around the world since they first
started in 1995.

Welcome Note
A welcome from Alice Webb, Director BBC Children’s and
Chair of the local organising committee for Children’s
Global Media Summit 2017
The Children’s Global Media Summit 2017 is a defining moment in our sector.
For the first time, we are aiming to bring together decision makers and influencers
from across all areas of content, technology platforms and policy to make some
big decisions about the future of Children’s media.
To ensure we all remain as relevant as possible to our audience in the digital
world, partnership and collaboration have never been more important. At
the heart of the summit is an ambition to find ways for the whole sector
to work together to create something which is more rewarding for our
audiences and in turn better for the broad base of businesses and
organisations working to inform, educate, entertain and protect young
people across the globe.
I am really excited about the opportunity this creates and the
relationships which we are all going to be able to build around the
Summit and beyond.

About The Children’s Global Media Summit
Celebrating the best content, tackling the importance of
education, protection and empowerment and leaving a
lasting impact through a new ‘Global Digital Charter’,
the event promises to be crucial for anyone involved in
Children’s Media.
The Summit will give the opportunity to help shape what the future of children’s
media could look like for the next decade by bringing together iconic speakers,
debates, masterclasses and a showcase of the most cutting edge content
and technology on the market in the heart of one of the most vibrant digital
cities in Europe.
The Children’s Global Media Summit (CGMS17) is the eighth which
has been commissioned by the World Summit on Media for Children
Foundation. For the first time, the content of the event is being overseen
by the BBC who will work with a group of broadcast partners,
academic institutions and government departments to create a rich
and unique program of content and events which reflect the world
of media through the eyes of a young global audience.
Why Get Involved
The digital revolution has changed
Children’s Media forever.
The sheer amount of content, platforms
and ideas which are flooding the market
have turned this hugely influential and
lucrative sector on its head. The speed
of change means that as things stand, the
industry is struggling to keep up with its
audience and the pace of change.
There is great work being done across a range
of different areas to start to try and get ahead of
this change, but as yet we haven’t managed to bring
all of that hard work and thinking together into one
place.
If the Children’s Media sector is going to best embrace
the opportunity that confronts it, then some big decisions
have to be made, some monumental partnerships need
to be struck and some brand new thinking needs to be
embraced. And fast.
The Children’s Global Media Summit 2017 is the place where
all of those things will come together and where the shape of
Children’s Media for the next decade will be agreed upon by the
people who have the power to make real change.
If you want to help shape that future direction and think that you or
your company have a part to play, then we would love to hear from you.

Venue
CGMS17 will be held in the heart of the UK at Manchester Central where you are
guaranteed the warmest, most professional welcome from a sector leading team.
The iconic exhibition and conference centre was once Manchester Central’s
railway station and sits just 20 minutes walk or five minutes in a taxi from
Piccadilly train station. Manchester is becoming one of the most accessible
destinations in the UK and connects with more than 200 destinations via the
airport located just 9 miles away.
As a host city, Manchester offers an endless choice of entertainment and
leisure options. Home to the largest theatre land outside London and
with the busiest indoor arena in the world, from theatres and galleries,
to designer shops and one-off boutiques, Manchester’s extensive
choice has helped to establish the city as one of Europe’s most
exciting conference destinations.
Manchester is a major city in the northwest of England with a rich industrial
heritage. The Castlefield conservation area’s 18th-century canal system
recalls the city’s days as a textile powerhouse, and visitors can trace this
history at the interactive Museum of Science & Industry. The revitalised
Salford Quays dockyards now house the Daniel Libeskind-designed
Imperial War Museum North and the Lowry cultural centre.
