A FEW WORDS FROM OUR PASTOR
I would like to begin by saying a great word of “THANKS” to everyone who chose to come out on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to worship with us and celebrate the Incarnation of our Lord and Saviour Jesus the Christ here at Saint Saviour Parish Family. Each of our celebrations of Eucharist this
Christmas were absolutely beautiful and extremely prayerful. While our crowds were not as good as in previous years, the people who chose to join us had only positive comments about their experience of liturgy here at Saint Saviour this Christmas. First, I must thank Father Kevin, Audrey Belsito, Adrian
Vasquez, and our friends from Dineen Construction Company for the many hours they put into decorating our church. It was a two-day project and I think you will all agree with me that our church looked absolutely spectacular. I also need to thank all the members of Martha’s Ministry who came
out and spent countless hours weaving all the Christmas Garland and lights together to make it look spectacular as it was strung around the perimeter of our church providing the light of Christmas to brighten our celebrations. Their sore hands and fingers are proof of their love and devotion to Saint
Saviour Parish. I also want to thank Geri Anne O’Beirne and all the parents who helped her put together our Children’s Christmas Pageant at our 6:00 pm. Celebration of Eucharist on Christmas Eve. Our children once again came through and provided us with both a realistic and strikingly accurate portrayal
of exactly what happened on that first Christmas night more then 2,000 years ago. I hope that next year even more children will choose to participate in this special moment of grace in re-enacting the birth of the Christ. I also want to thank Alex Ashman, our Music Ministry Director, for the tremendous job he
did in bringing together many different persons, personalities and voices to provide us with the most beautiful Christmas music at each of our celebrations of Eucharist. We are so blessed to have Alex with us and I find his enthusiasm and vision for what is possible here in terms of good liturgical music both enlightening an encouraging. My thanks also to our Altar Servers who served each of our Masses so
reverently and prayerfully, as well as to our Seminarian, Stephen Jankowski, who served as our Master of Ceremonies at each of our celebrations of Eucharist. I am also grateful to all our Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Communion for assisting us in making our Christmas liturgies so prayerful
and reverent, as well as to our Ushers and Ministers of Hospitality for welcoming EVERYONE this Christmas to our church. What many of you do not realize is that there are many people who come to Saint Saviour Church each week from all around our neighborhood and even from other parishes in our
Diocese because they truly LOVE what is happening here in our parish: the inclusiveness of the fact that ALL people are welcome here; the prayerful liturgies and inspiring music; the challenging, uplifting and encouraging homilies, the sense of always feeling welcome here. This is something we as a parish
family should be very proud about and Father Kevin and I are so very grateful for your kind words and encouraging notes and letters that you send us sharing those sentiments with us. Once again, it was truly a bright and faith-filled Christmas here at Saint Saviour Parish.
Don’t forget that this Tuesday, January 1st, the church celebrates the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God. THIS IS A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION, AND WE ALL HAVE THE OBLIGATION TO ATTEND MASS ON THIS DAY. Here at Saint Saviour, there will only be ONE
MASS on January 1st, and that will be at 10:00 a.m. What a wonderful opportunity for us ALL as a parish family to come together at this one Mass to not only welcome in a brand new year of grace and blessing, but to celebrate our Blessed Mother as the Mother of God! We do hope you will plan on
joining us for this special liturgy on Tuesday, January 1st, at 10:00 a.m.
Have a great week everyone, and Happy New Year!!

organizations that work with families in need.
Brown baggers Homeless Outreach
The Brownbaggers project serves the poor in the
NYC parks during the winter months. Since 2009
we have delivered thousands of lunches. Meeting
monthly in the Parish Hall at 12:30 pm, we assemble
100 brown bag lunches with food and clothing
items donated by our volunteers. We then travel via
subway to multiple Manhattan parks to distribute our
lunches to those most in need, returning to Brooklyn
by 3:30 pm. John Olash is the current director
of our Brownbaggers HomelessOutreach Program.
Volunteers can reach John at: [email protected]

To those of you who are relatively new to the neighborhood, to those of you who are church shopping, to those of you who came in just because you saw an open door, welcome to St. Saviour. We are a diverse, inclusive, post Vatican II Roman Catholic parish where people of all backgrounds have gathered to pray for over to 100 years. For whatever reason you were drawn to St. Saviour, it is our hope and prayer that you will be spiritually nourished here. And please know that you are always welcomed back.
