GATHERING The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God

ORGAN PRELUDE Let the Spirit prepare your heart for worship.

As the service concludes today, the Worship Working Group asks you to remain in your seat and take part in a BRIEF conversation about the style and schedule of worship at Our Saviour.

INVOCATION

P In the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. The presiding minister may comment briefly on the service of the day, and

then invite all to confession.

BRIEF ORDER OF CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS

Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.

The assembly kneels or stands. Silence is kept for reflection.

Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

APOSTOLIC GREETING

P The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

C And also with you.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

P Let us pray. O God of creation, eternal majesty, you preside over land and sea, sunshine and storm. By your strength pilot us, by your power preserve us, by your wisdom instruct us, and by your hand protect us, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

C Amen

WORD We hear and respond to God’s Word

FIRST READING Job 38:1-11

A 1The LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind: 2“Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? 3Gird up your loins like a man, I will question you, and you shall declare to me.

4“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. 5Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? 6On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone 7when the morning stars sang together and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy?

8“Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb?— 9when I made the clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band, 10and prescribed bounds for it, and set bars and doors, 11and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stopped’?”

A The Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

PSALM Ps 107:1-3, 23-32

A 1Give thanks to the LORD, for the | LORD is good, for God’s mercy en- | dures forever. 2Let the redeemed of the | LORD proclaim that God redeemed them from the hand | of the foe, 3gathering them in | from the lands; from the east and from the west, from the north and | from the south. 23Some went down to the | sea in ships, plying their trade | in deep waters. 24They beheld the works | of the LORD, God’s wonderful works | in the deep. 25Then God spoke, and a stormy | wind arose, which tossed high the waves | of the sea. 26They mounted up to the heavens and descended | to the depths; their souls melted away | in their peril. 27They staggered and | reeled like drunkards, and all their skill was of | no avail. 28Then in their trouble they cried | to the LORD, and you delivered them from | their distress. 29You stilled the storm | to a whisper and silenced the waves | of the sea. 30Then were they glad when | it grew calm, when you guided them to the harbor | they desired. 31Let them give thanks to you, LORD, for your | steadfast love and your wonderful works | for all people.

32Let them exalt you in the assembly | of the people; in the council of the elders, let them sing | hallelujah!

SECOND READING 2 Corinthians 6:1-13

A 1As we work together with him, we urge you also not to accept the grace of God in vain. 2For he says, “At an acceptable time I have listened to you, and on a day of salvation I have helped you.” See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation! 3We are putting no obstacle in anyone’s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, 4but as servants of God we have commended ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, 5beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; 6by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, holiness of spirit, genuine love, 7truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; 8in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; 9as unknown, and yet are well known; as dying, and see—we are alive; as punished, and yet not killed; 10as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything. 11We have spoken frankly to you Corinthians; our heart is wide open to you. 12There is no restriction in our affections, but only in yours. 13In return—I speak as to children—open wide your hearts also.

A The Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION 2 Cor. 6:2

P Alleluia. Now is the acceptable time; C now is the day of salvation. Alleluia.

GOSPEL Mark 4: 35-41

P The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark. C Glory to you, O Lord.

35When evening had come, [Jesus said to the disciples,] “Let us go across to the other side.” 36And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with

them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him. 37A great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. 38But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. 40He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?” 41And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

P The gospel of the Lord. C Praise to you, O Christ.

SERMON

THE NICENE CREED

A With the church of God around the world, let us affirm our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed.

C We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

A Let us come before God, the Holy Trinity, in prayer.

A brief silence.

Holy God, you gather your people from east and west, north, and south. We pray for our partners in Papua New Guinea, and for the mission of the church throughout the world, that your steadfast love may be made known to all peoples. Lord, in your mercy,

hear our prayer.

You laid the foundations of the earth and the waters are the womb of creation. The morning stars sing your name and all creation shouts for joy. We pray for your blessed creation, that it may continue to flourish and magnify your glory. Lord, in your mercy,

hear our prayer.

You keep watch over all nations. We pray for countries experiencing violence, hunger, and unrest, especially Yemen, Myanmar, Ukraine, and Peru. Guide people and organizations of goodwill in their efforts to establish safety and justice. Lord, in your mercy,

hear our prayer.

You dwell with us in this faith community. We pray for our leaders and elders especially Terri and Michael our pastors, Troy and the Congregation Council, as well as all our committees and teams. Grant them knowledge, patience, and kindness, that through their leadership you may be exalted in this assembly. Lord, in your mercy,

hear our prayer.

Here other intercessions may be offered. The presiding minister concludes the prayers.

P You are the friend of the friendless and the healer of the afflicted. Bless (names). Receive the souls of the blessed dead (including names). Lord, in your mercy,

hear our prayer.

We lift our prayers to you, O God, trusting in your abiding grace.

Amen.

MEAL God feeds us with the presence of Jesus Christ

selves, our time, and our possessions — signs of God’s gracious love.

OFFERTORY PROCESSION The gifts are brought forward to support the work of the church.

OFFERING PRAYER

A Let us pray. Jesus, Bread of life, you have set this table with your very self, and called us to the feast of plenty. Gather what has been sown among us, and strengthen us in this meal. Make us to be what we receive here, your body for the life of the world

C Amen. DIALOGUE The presiding minister invites the people to prayer.

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

PREFACE Spoken by the presiding minister

It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus Christ; who on this day overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

SANCTUS Isaiah 6:3 & Matthew 21:9

Spoken by the assembly

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER Led by the presiding minister.

We give God thanks for this meal, recall God’s saving deeds, and call the Holy Spirit to be present as we receive the Body and Blood of Jesus.

You are indeed holy, almighty and merciful God. You are most holy, and great is the majesty of your glory.

You so loved the world that you gave your only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but have eternal life.

We give you thanks for his coming into the world to fulfill for us your holy will and to accomplish all things for our salvation.

In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:

Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying:

This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.

Do this for the remembrance of me.

Remembering, therefore, his salutary command, his life-giving passion and death, his glorious resurrection and ascension, and the promise of his coming again,

we give thanks to you, O Lord God Almighty, not as we ought but as we are able;

Page 12: Our Saviour - oslc-warrenton.org

12

we ask you mercifully to accept our praise and thanksgiving and with your Word and Holy Spirit to bless us, your servants, and these

your own gifts of bread and wine, so that we and all who share in the body and blood of Christ may be

filled with heavenly blessing and grace, and, receiving the forgiveness of sin, may be formed to live as your holy people and be given our inheritance with all your saints.

To you, O God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory in your holy church, now and forever. Amen.

LORD'S PRAYER

P Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray,

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we

forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and

ever. Amen.

The presiding minister invites the assembly to the table in the words of 1 Corinthians 5:7:

P Alleluia! Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us! C Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia!

COMMUNION Today, we will administer both the Body of Christ and his most precious Blood.

We will use a pouring chalice to administer the Blood. After you have consumed the Body, a worship leader will pour from the shared chalice into an individual cup. When you have consumed this, please place the cup in a tray.

If you prefer not to receive this way, please remember the words of St. Augustine, “but believe and thou hast eaten.”

As the Minister gives the bread and wine, he or she says these words to each communicant:

Page 13: Our Saviour - oslc-warrenton.org

13

The body of Christ, given for you. The blood of Christ, shed for you.

The communicant may say: Amen.

POST-COMMUNION BLESSING

P The Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his grace.

C Amen

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

A O God, we give you thanks that you have set before us this feast, the body and blood of your Son. By your Spirit strengthen us to serve all in need and to give ourselves away as bread for the hungry, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

C Amen

SENDING God blesses us and sends us in mission to the world.

BLESSING

P Almighty God, the Father, the Son + and the Holy Spirit, bless you now and forever.

C Amen.
