  • Reflections ~ Reflexiones GGoossppeell:: MMaatttthheeww 33::11--1122

    John the Baptist was one of those preachers who did not mind stepping on people's toes, even those of the rich and powerful. His mission was to get people to repent and be baptized before the Messiah arrived. John warns the religious leaders of his time that they must produce good fruit as proof of their conversion. 1.) How are you getting ready for the Messiah? Are your actions of justice, peace, and love speaking loud and clear as you prepare for Christmas? Are you really a follower of Christ or are you just jumping on the Advent-Christmas bandwagon? 2.) Take a few quiet moments and ask Saint John the Baptist to suggest something just, peaceful, and loving that you could do to prepare to celebrate Christmas as a true follower of Christ.

    EEvvaannggeelliioo:: MMaatteeoo 33::11--1122 Juan el Bautista fue uno de esos predicadores a quien no le importaba caer mal, no importaba si fueran ricos y poderosos. Su misión fue pedir a la gente que se arrepintiera y se bautizara antes de la llegada del Mesías. Juan alertó a los líderes religiosos de su tiempo de que debían producir buenos fruto como prueba de su conversión. 1.) ¿Cómo te estás preparando para recibir el Mesías? ¿Hablan tus obras de justicia, paz y amor más claramente durante tu preparación para la Navidad? ¿Estás listo para seguir a Cristo o sólo estás trepado en el camión de Adviento-Navidad? 2.) Toma unos minutos en silencio y pide a San Juan Bautista te sugiera algo justo, amoroso o de paz que puedes hacer para prepararte para celebrar la Navidad como verdadero seguidor de Cristo.

    Pastor’s Message~ Mensaje del Párroco TTHHEE SSOOUUNNDD OOFF SSTTIILLLLNNEESSSS

    Can you hear him above the busyness and noise? John the Baptist says we must change. A great light will expose our sinfulness and burn up what we cannot hide. We cannot be complacent. We must change, but how? Centuries ago a young man grew up in northern Africa. He received an excellent education, but fell in with a sect called the Manichees, who encouraged evil living. He prayed to God to change him, "but not yet." Finally, he faced his own emptiness and powerlessness and was quiet enough to hear the "still small voice." God said, "Take up and read." The scriptures fell open to the Letter to the Romans (13:13-14). His heart changed. His name is Augustine--a bishop, great Christian theologian, and doctor of the Church. Advent is a time to quiet down and listen so we don't miss the personal message that God has for us. Copyright (c) 2010, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

    ¿Puedes escucharlo en medio de todas las ocupaciones y del ruido? Juan el Bautista dice que debemos cambiar. Una gran luz aparecerá que expondrá nuestros pecados y lo que no dé fruto será arrojado al fuego. No podemos sentirnos auto-satisfechos. Debemos cambiar, ¿pero cómo? Hace muchos siglos vivió un hombre en la parte norte de África. Recibió una educación excelente, pero cayó en la secta del maniqueísmo, que lo llevó a una mala vida. Le pidió a Dios que lo cambiara, pero "todavía no". Finalmente, se enfrentó con su propio vacío y

    su incapacidad, y pudo encontrar la suficiente quietud para escuchar una voz "como la de un niño". Dios le decía, "toma y lee". Al buscar en las escrituras la página se abrió en la carta de san Pablo a los romanos (13:13-14). Su corazón cambió. Su nombre es Agustín, obispo, gran teólogo cristiano y doctor de la Iglesia. El Adviento es un tiempo para buscar la quietud y estar a la escucha para no perdernos el mensaje personal que Dios tiene para nosotros. Copyright (c) 2010, World Library Publications. O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, didst prepare a worthy dwelling place for thy

    Son, we beseech thee that, as by the foreseen death of this, thy Son, thou didst preserve her from all stain, so too thou wouldst permit us, purified through her intercession, to come unto thee. Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who livest and reignest with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen. Source: https://www.catholic.org/

    MMIISSSSIIOONNAARRIIEESS OOFF CCHHAARRIITTYY You are cordially invited to attend the First Profession of Vows of three Novices. His Excellency, Most Reverend Salvatore Cordileone will be the main celebrant. It will be on Monday, December 9, 2019 5:30pm at St. Paul’s Church (221 Valley St. San Francisco, CA - 29th Street & Church Street). Entrance to the parking lot is on 29th Street between Church and Sanchez Street. There will be a reception in the parish hall following the Mass. Please keep the Sisters in your prayers.

    TTHHEE LLOONNGG--AAWWAAIITTEEDD OONNEE As the Sundays of Advent unfold the scriptures shift focus from the final coming of the Lord to his historical birth. Today’s scriptures blend the two. Isaiah’s disillusionment with the kings of his own day led him to envision an ideal king who would rule with divine approval and be led by divine wisdom. For centuries the Jewish people anticipated the arrival of that Messiah, who would usher in a blessed age when the whole world would finally dwell in justice and peace. After centuries of such growing expectation, the preaching of John the Baptist about the imminent arrival of the Messiah could not help but provoke intense interest. The Baptist’s message about preparation for “the one who is coming” (Matthew 3:11) makes clear that Jesus is, in fact, the long-awaited one who is ushering in the new age foretold by Isaiah and all the prophets. December 9 How well Mary’s own words describe Juan Diego: “God has cast down the mighty from their thrones and lifted up the lowly” (Luke 1:52). Through him, for the diverse peoples of the Americas, indigenous and immigrant, the Mother of God became known as their Mother, too. Cuauhtlatzin, his given name, means “One Who Speaks Like an Eagle,” and Juan Diego faithfully delivered the Virgin’s request that a church be built at Tepeyac where she had appeared to him. To the skeptical bishop’s request for a sign, Our Lady showed Juan Diego roses blooming through stony ground, despite winter’s cold. When he unfolded his tilma to present them to the bishop, imprinted there was Mary’s image! Her blue sash and the flower over her womb were traditional Aztec symbols of pregnancy and new life. But her features were those of a mestiza, indicating mixed Aztec-European heritage. Thus to peoples too easily prone to a “clash of cultures,” Our Lady of Guadalupe remains the enduring icon of unity-in-diversity, the fruit of our one baptism into Jesus, her Son. —Peter Scagnelli, CCooppyyrriigghhtt ©© JJ.. VVEENNTTAASS DDEE TTAAMMAALLEESS La Junta Hispana tendrá ventas de tamales los siguientes domingo: 1 de diciembre y 22 de diciembre a partir de la misa de las 8:30am hasta la misa de las 11:30am.

    MMIISSIIOONNEERRAASS DDEE LLAA CCAARRIIDDAADD Usted está cordialmente invitado a asistir a la primera profesión de votos de tres novicias. Su Excelencia, el Reverendísimo Salvatore Cordileone será el celebrante principal. Será el lunes 9 de diciembre de 2019 a las 5:30pm. en la Iglesia de San Pablo (221 Valley St. San Francisco, CA – calle 29 y Church). La entrada al estacionamiento está en la calle 29 entre las calles Church y Sanchez. Habrá una recepción en el salón parroquial después de la misa. Por favor mantengan a las Hermanas en sus oraciones.

    LLAARRGGAA EESSPPEERRAA A medida que transcurren los domingos de Adviento el foco de las lecturas cambia de la venida final del Señor a su histórico nacimiento. Las lecturas de hoy mezclan ambos. Isaías, desilusionado de los reyes de sus tiempos, imagina al rey ideal que gobernará con la aprobación de Dios y será guiado por la divina sabiduría. Por siglos el pueblo judío anticipó la llegada de ese Mesías, quien inauguraría una era de gracia cuando todo el mundo finalmente viviría en justicia y paz. Luego de siglos de creciente expectativa, la predicación de Juan Bautista sobre la inminente llegada del Mesías no hizo más que provocar un intenso interés. El mensaje del Bautista sobre “el que viene” (Mateo 3:11) deja claro que Jesús, de hecho, es aquel esperado por largo tiempo que inaugura la nueva era predicha por Isaías y todos los profetas. SSAANN JJUUAANN DDIIEEGGOO ((11447744--11554488)) 9 de diciembre Cuauhtlatoatzin (el que habla como las águilas) fue un indígena mexicano de raza chichimeca nacido en Cuautitlán a quien Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe se le apareció por vez primera el 9 de diciembre de 1531 mientras iba a participar en la celebración eucarística que tenía lugar en Tlatelolco. La virgen le habló por su nombre indígena, en diminutivo, enalteciendo a Juan Diego y le pidió que fuera al palacio del arzobispo Fray Juan de Zumárraga y le pidiera que le edificara un templo, ahí en el lugar de las apariciones, en el Tepeyac. Juan Diego cumplió la misión, pero no le creyeron. Volvió a donde la Señora en dos ocasiones hasta que en la tercera, le pidió una prueba requerida por el arzobispo. Por mandato de la virgen corta rosas de castilla (de un lugar pedregoso y en temporada de invierno) y las lleva en su manto al arzobispo. Al descubrir el ayate ante Fray Juan, la Virgen de Guadalupe plasmó su imagen en la tilma de Juan Diego. Era el 12 de diciembre de 1531. —Miguel Arias, CCooppyyrriigghhtt ©© JJ.. SS..
