CASE STUDY: CISCOHelping Cisco understand the U.S. Social Incubation landscape

PROJECT NEEDS Cisco Corporate Affairs is committed to creating long-term impact globally. Part of that endeavor revolves around entrepreneurship support, skill development and job creation. With that in mind, Cisco reached out to UBI Global, a thought leader in performance analysis of business incubation around the world, with these 3 aims specifically for the US:

Benchmarking can help understand best practices across social incubators and, in turn, incite them to improve and create more jobs. Establishing a benchmark also enables the surfacing and sharing of data-driven best practices in order to catalyze a network of incubators for social innovation.

MAP THE SOCIAL INCUBATION ECOSYSTEMS IN THE U.S. – UBI Global would present a social incubation landscape: number of social incubators in the U.S., their focus and structure

IDENTIFY THE TOP PERFORMING SOCIAL INCUBATORS – UBI Global would analyze data collected from key social incubators and assess their performance to identify the top social incubators

HIGHLIGHT THE TOP SOCIAL INCUBATORS AND THEIR BEST PRACTICES – Highlight the top incubators at the Social Capital Markets Conference 2015 and share their best practices & knowledge

WHY BENCHMARK?

In 2015, UBI Global developed a social benchmark in partnership with Cisco Corporate Affairs. The main goal of this benchmark was to better

understand and measure the success of social incubators using over 40 key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate success factors such

as the value generated for the participating startups as well as the economic and social impact.

UBI Global is thought leader in performance analysis of business incubation around the world. We help business incubators and business accelerators become more efficient and competitive through a comprehensive benchmark

MEASURING SOCIAL INCUBATOR PERFORMANCE

In order to create a new framework, UBI Global research team conducted extensive desk research combined with discussions with industry experts. Together, UBI Global and Cisco co-created a pioneering research framework. It measures the social and economic impact of the social incubator and its client startups – but it also assesses the value provided by the social incubator to its client startups.

This framework will help social incubation programs, their support organizations and governments to understand the relevant performance indicators in a systematic manner Cisco Corporate Affairs Team
