Civil Engineering (with Surveying) MSc /

The Civil Engineering MSc at UCL now offers sixadditional specialist routes which reflect theexpertise within the department and expandingcareer paths of civil engineers. This programme isfor those students who wish to combine a generalMSc in the subject with the related discipline ofsurveying.

 Degree summary 

The programme provides students with a strong academic backgroundin a broad range of civil engineering topics and advanced skills inproblem-solving necessary for a successful career in the sector. Thisroute will also offer you the opportunity to gain specialist knowledge inyour chosen area of surveying and provide a clear path to a professionalcareer in civil engineering.

// Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering at UCL is an energeticand exciting environment. We carry outadvanced research in structures, environmental engineering, laserscanning and seismic design.

// This MSc covers all the major areas of civil engineering, reflectingthe broad range of expertise available within the department and itsstrong links with the engineering profession across the UK andbeyond.

// There is a strong emphasis on developing skills within a teamworkenvironment, equipping students for subsequent professionalpractice.

The programme is delivered through lectures, tutorials, seminars,laboratory classes and field trips. The research project includeslaboratory, computational or fieldwork depending on the nature of theproject. Assessment is through examinations, coursework, projectreports and the research project.

Accreditation

This degree is accredited, as a Technical MSc, as meeting therequirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) forcandidates who have already acquired a partial CEng accreditedundergraduate first degree. See www.jbm.org.uk for further information.

 Degree structure 

Mode: Full-time: 1 year; Part-time: 2 years

Location: London, Bloomsbury

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits. The programmeconsists of four core modules including three specialist modules andone professional development module (60 credits), four optionalmodules (60 credits) and a research project (60 credits).

A Postgraduate Diploma, four core modules (60 credits), four optionalmodules (60 credits) is offered.

 Your career 

Civil Engineering graduates are readily employed by consultancies,construction companies and government departments.

Employability

There are excellent employment prospects for our graduates. There isinternational demand for multi-skilled, solutions-focused professionalswho can take a holistic approach to solving problems.

 Entry requirements 

A minimum of an upper second-class UK Bachelor's degree in civil orstructural engineering or a closely related subject, or an overseasqualification of an equivalent standard. Applicants who do not meet thestandard entry criteria may be asked to provide a portfoliodemonstrating existing engineering and design skills. For non-civil orstructural engineering candidates we offer a Graduate Diploma in CivilEngineering, recognised by our accrediting body (the Joint Board ofModerators), which can be used as a pre-qualifying year for the CivilEngineering MSc and its specialist routes.

English language proficiency level

If your education has not been conducted in the English language, youwill be expected to demonstrate evidence of an adequate level ofEnglish proficiency.

The level of English language proficiency for this programme is:Standard.
