When Gill is not helping patients achieve optimum wellness at his Hutchinson, Kan., chi- ropractic practice, you can find him on stage singing songs from his 2012 debut album. His passion for music was instilled in him in his early childhood by his dad, who was a music teacher. “Music was always in the house,” Gill said. “When I was in grade school, I was singing in church and played a couple different instruments. Then, in high school, I won a few talent shows, and even won one in college. It was at Cleveland in 1999 with fellow 2000 graduate Dr. Kimberly Hunt. I haven’t seen her since graduation. Maybe we can do a reunion duet soon!” Gill said while he has his dad to thank for getting him interested in music in general, it’s his grandpa that got him hooked on country. “Country music was always on in my grandpa’s truck and tractor,” Gill said. “It was on one of those rides, listenting to country, when he taught me to whistle between my teeth. Outside his clinic, other amazing results are occurring. The single, “Say It...Goodbye” off his debut album recent- ly won a songwriters contest that landed him on the main stage at the Country Stampede music festival, opening up for headliners Jason Aldean and Jake Owen. “Perfoming at the Country Stampede was surreal,” Gill said. “I wasn’t nervous for a moment. My band and I were treated like royalty the whole weekend. It was a really nice reward for a year’s worth of hard work.” Gill said he is blessed to be realizing success in his dual career in chiropractic and country music. “I’m grateful for everything in my life, and that includes this profession,” Gill said. “Building my chiropractic practice was hard work and it prepared me for the harsh realities in professional music. It’s a long road, but it will be worth it.” When Gill’s not healing patients or entertain- ing fans, he spends time on the farm with his fami- ly. He also tends horses and pursues other hobbies. “I try to keep my horses in shape by team roping and riding around the farmstead with my kids,” Gill said. “I also still work out like a maniac. It’s kind of like an addiction, but a good one.” Gill’s practice in Hutchinson also serves Inman, Stafford, St. John and Sylvia, Kan. Dr. Gill’s star is on the rise Dreams of what we want to be when we

grow up don’t always come true. Maybe in part for some, but generally what we end up pursuing as a career is miles away from cow-boy, astronaut, football player and the like. A lucky few realize that dream. And then there’s Dr. Jake Gill ’00, who hit the boyhood dreams jackpot by becoming both a doctor and a country music star.

When Gill is not helping patients achieve optimum wellness at his Hutchinson, Kan., chi-ropractic practice, you can find him on stage singing songs from his 2012 debut album. His passion for music was instilled in him in his early childhood by his dad, who was a music teacher.

Hello again, everyone. Fall has arrived and along with it, another new trimester at Cleveland. It seems like this is

always the busiest time of the year. Fifty-five new students entered into the DC program – thanks so much for your referrals. Just like in practice, where new patient referrals are your lifeblood, new stu-dent referrals are the lifeblood of the College.

We just concluded our annual Homecom-ing festivities. What a weekend! Over 700 doctors, students and chiropractic assistants attended – you talk about positive energy – wow! Once again the College partnered with the Kansas Chiropractic Association to host its fall convention in conjunction with our Homecoming celebration. The weekend was filled with outstanding continuing education opportunities and several social events, includ-ing our reunion doctor celebration where we recognized graduates from 1953, ’63, ’73, ’83,

’93 and ’03. There was also an Awards Night, where the Alumni Association recognized their new board members and the 2013 “Alumnus of the Year” award, the College recognized individuals for their commitment to community service, and the Foundation presented 47 scholarships to well-deserving students.

On a more personal and sorrowful note, the College and the entire chiropractic community mourned the loss of a long-time friend, College supporter and mentor to so many, Dr. Richard D. Yennie, class of 1953. Dr. Yennie passed on Oct. 11, 2013. The College will host a memorial service to celebrate this extraordinary man’s life and accomplishments. This “Celebration of Life” service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making contributions to the College Foundation in Dr. Yennie’s memory.

In other news, our “Last Chance” continuing education seminar will be on campus the weekend of Dec. 14-15, and I will host an alumni luncheon that Saturday. Please plan on joining us.

And don’t forget “Vegas, Baby!” Be sure to save the dates Feb. 28- March 2, 2014, as we launch what we predict will become an annual event – a 12-hour continuing education seminar in Las Vegas!

Remember to let us know what is going on in your lives and practices, so that we can share your news with colleagues and fellow alums. Until next time, as always be safe and be well! q

Maybe we can do a reunion duet soon!”

Gill said while he has his dad to thank for getting him interested in music in general, it’s his grandpa that got him hooked on country.

“Country music was always on in my grandpa’s truck and tractor,” Gill said. “It was on one of those rides, listenting to country, when he taught me to whistle between my teeth. So it started with Grandpa, and when Garth Brooks hit the scene with ‘The Thunder Rolls,’ and I saw the excite-ment in the crowd, I started dreaming then.”

It could be said that Gill is a rising star in both chiropractic and country music. Practicing with his brother, Dr. Josh Gill ’07, patients at Gill Chiropractic & Acupuncture offer glowing

testimonials of how the care they’re receiving is changing their lives.

Outside his clinic, other amazing results are occurring. The single, “Say It...Goodbye” off his debut album recent-ly won a songwriters contest that landed him on the main stage at the Country Stampede music festival, opening up for headliners Jason Aldean and Jake Owen.

“Perfoming at the Country Stampede was surreal,” Gill said. “I wasn’t nervous for a moment. My band and I were treated like royalty the whole weekend. It was a really nice reward for a year’s worth of hard work.”

Gill said he is blessed to be realizing success in his dual career in chiropractic and country music.

“I’m grateful for everything in my life, and that includes this profession,” Gill said. “Building my chiropractic practice was hard work and it prepared me for the harsh realities in professional music. It’s a long road, but it will be worth it.”

When Gill’s not healing patients or entertain-ing fans, he spends time on the farm with his fami-ly. He also tends horses and pursues other hobbies.

“I try to keep my horses in shape by team roping and riding around the farmstead with my kids,” Gill said. “I also still work out like a maniac. It’s kind of like an addiction, but a good one.”

Gill’s practice in Hutchinson also serves Inman, Stafford, St. John and Sylvia, Kan. His album can be purchased in his clinic or on iTunes. q
