Rotary, after its huge success of the polio eradication program, has embarked upon a new mission of eradicating illiter- acy from the country through its program called T-E-A-C- H:Tfor Teacher Support, E for E-learning, A for Adult Liter- acy, C for Child Development and H for Happy Schools. We, at Rotary believe that Teach- ers are the Nation Builders because it is they who de- velop the youth of tomorrow. We lay huge emphasis on the teachers and their work. Also the club honored three individuals from the Tri City for having contributed their best for the Literacy. Mr. Subharh A casual worker in a canteen of a factory whose both sons are now pursuing bachelor's degree in an Contd. Pg 4. Efforts of charting three new interact clubs have started delivering results. On the same day, Rotary Club Mohali provided Adult Literacy Kits for opening six Adult Literacy Centers. Three out of these would be managed by Interactors of Saint Pauls’ International School, Saint Soldier International School and Swami Ram Tritha Public School, Mohali. The other one now stands opened at Tribune Model School, Chandigarh. One more at the Rotary Vocational Training Centre, Mo- hali would be managed by the trainees who would impart the basic education to their other fellow trainees. The sixth one at a Colony in Phase 3, Mohali is being managed by Ann Navtej Sibia. On the occasion of World Literacy Day, Rotary Club Mohali

honored 25 teachers with Na-tion Builder Award. World Heart Day Celebrations with a Free Multispecialty Medical Camp

Club of GJIMT and Max Super Specialty Hospi-tal celebrated World Heart Day with Free

Multi Specialty Health Check up camp. The camp was organized at Gyan Jyoti Insti-tute of Management & Technology Phase II, Mohali and was in-

augurated by Mr. Bedi Chairperson GJIMT. 183 patients were checked by doctors from Max Hospital. Various spe-cialties that were avail-able included- Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Gynecology, and Ortho-pedics. Consultation on Diet was also provid-ed. Investigations like ECG,BMD,PFT,BLOOD SUGAR,BLOOD PRES-SURE etc. Rotractors led by President Gourav won all around ap-plause for carrying out excellent promotion of the event on the social media and for having gone door to door in the various slum areas in Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 6 of Mohali. The enthusiasm shown by Rotractors, the staff of GJIMT and students was unmatched. The food for the medical staff was sponsored by Past President Rtn. Gurvin-der Juneja.

Chikungunya and dengue is con-tinuing to wreak

havoc in the Tricity. Going by the reports in media as of Sept 29 -Two more suspected dengue deaths were reported in Mohali dis-trict taking the death toll to eight. Besides, 45 fresh cases of den-gue were reported from Chandigarh, 44 from Mohali and seven from Panchkula on Sep-tember 29th. In order to let the Swatch Bharat Abhiyan also address the con-cern of the society on Chikungunya and den-gue. On Sept 30th, Ro-tary Club Mohali invited a young doctor Dr Am-rinder Paul Singh who , is working as Deputy Di-rector National Health Mission IDSP, Punjab. Dr. Singh is having rich experience as a dis-trict epidemiologist.

He shared his views on How to differentiate between the cases of Dengue and Chikungu-nya and Do and Don’ts for keeping the home and surrounding clear of the carrying vector. The talk was well at-tended by teachers from schools and Rota-ractors. Also teachers were given literature on the same to be dis-tributed among the stu-dents. And Rotaractors were given books to be distributed among school students on bet-ter upkeep of eyes.

But with a few lifestyle chang-es, you can have both a healthy body and a great work experi-ence,” said Dr Gurdish Kaur Brar at a “Session on “Wellness” on 2nd September at the Guest Speaker Meet. Dr Brar is a BAMS, NDDY, B.Ed (Yoga), Msc (SOL and Preksha Meditation). She is the Director of Ayurveda Wellness Cen-tre and is a very active member with All India Ayurveda Congress. The guest speaker high-

lighted how digital life is making life more complicated. The guest speaker was introduced by Rtr. Harchitvan Singh President Rotaract Club SAS Nagar who put in his best efforts to bring in Dr. Brar as a guest speaker. A token of ap-preciation was handed over to Dr. Brar by PDG Rtn. JPS Sibia. Rtr. Har-chitvan was duly ac-corded for his efforts. PP Rtn. B S Devgun handed over “Celebrate Life” to him. A vote of thanks was proposed by PP Rtn. Navneet Sax-ena. It was a joint club meeting of Rotary Club Mohali and Rotaract Club SAS Nagar.

Tribune Model School under the leadership of

Ann Vandana Saxena launched its Adult Lit-eracy Program in part-nership with Rotary Club Mohali under the TEACH Project of Ro-tary India Literacy Mis-sion on September 27, 2016. Rotary Club Mo-hali compliments the efforts of Principal Van-dana Saxena, teacher in charge Mrs. Anjana Mittal has formed a team along with stu-dents Prerna, Mahek Rana, Anish Chaudhary, Muskan and Kunwar Harshwardhan of Class VIII who will be teach-ing Hindi and Math-

ematics to five Group-D staff of the School, namely: Reshma, Kamal, Kaushal, Va-sudev Yadav and Anand Prasad. President Rtn. Sukhpreet Singh Giani, while addressing the school assembly asked the students to start with the adult literacy kits of RILM and en-couraged them to take the program further

and make the partici-pants literate to a level that they can read and comprehend a diction-ary within a period of three years. To support the mission the RC Mo-hali provided each stu-dent of the Team with a dictionary. Also another 5 dictionaries were handed over by PP Rtn. Surinder Bains for the school library

Ms Coriana has sponsored the education of two chil-dren who come from the underprivileged society. The students are studying in grade 8 and grade 9 and she takes care of all their educational needs that in-clude the tuition fee, the requirements of book and stationery, bus fee, school uniform etc – a program under Child Development of RILM.
