CMU STUDENTS PRESENT CHECK TO ZIIBIWINGOn November 16, 2016, Ziibiwing was a part of “Painting With a Purpose,” an event that took place at Wightman Hall on the campus of CMU. A group of students partaking in their class: RPL 430: Planning Recreation Programs and Events, reached out toZiibiwing with an idea and a request. Their idea was to do a fundraiser for a local organization. Their request was to have Ziibiwing come and speak about Saginaw Chippewa Tribal history.
The student’s idea was based on a class assignment. They needed to showcase their ability to conceptualize, organize, and accomplish the completion of an event. The students approached Ziibiwing with their idea of hosting a fundraiser on behalf of Ziibiwing. The proceeds from the fundraiser would go to Ziibiwing for funding our community programs.
The group consisted of 5 CMU students, Chloe White, Lauren Ouellette, Sydney Arsenault, Jesse Culp, and Chloe Wegrzyn.
Each student played a role in bringing this event to life. “Painting With a Purpose” was a fun community activity that encouraged everyone’s artistic side. The people that participated in this event painted a turtle and listened to the presenter talk about our Tribal history. The event was a success bringing over 80 people together and raising $406.00 for Ziibiwing.
Ziibiwing would like to thank each of these students for their creativity and hard work.
