Velsicol Chemical – Disposal of industrial waste from 1964 to 1973
Estimated 130,000 to 300,000 barrels of waste Waste was dumped in unlined trenches in sand hills Contamination to domestic wells was reported by
residents and confirmed in 1978 Site added to EPA NPL in 1983 Pump and treat system installed in 1996 and operated
until 2003. Declared failed remediation.
Background
Phase 2 (2010 - 2011) – identify sources of contamination to tributaries, evaluation of contaminant transport and attenuation through wetland, evaluate sites for enhanced remediation

Areas of Release to Environment (groundwater discharge)
1. Wetland – seeps and distributed sources of contaminants to wetland and small streams
2. Tributary streams – some point location and possible distributed source of contaminants; contaminant transport to wetland.
3. Pugh Creek – distributed and point location with high level of contaminants
