Evolution means there is no going back. Progress and a will to succeed urge us to move forward just a little bit more every day. For that reason, Grupo Condesa wishes to share its international growth and convey a new and unifi ed image as the leading company in this sector, with an increasing range of products with better features at the service of our customers.
The parent company of Grupo Condesa was founded in 1954, based on the Spanish company Conducciones y Derivados S.A. Today, this is a solid and expanding Group, the result of a combination of several initiatives based on a number of clear objectives: To become a leading international company through excellence, quality, experience and know-how, to resolve the problems of our customers and in this way, move forward and develop together.
Collaboration and coordination between the different members of the Group generate synergies that allow us to tackle large markets with guarantees and with an excellent capacity to respond to our customers’ needs. Thanks to our large international network, we are always very close to our customers, attending to their needs and providing solutions at each moment in time.
Twelve manufacturing companies through-out Europe.
Our sales offi ces can be found in Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and Morocco. Agents in Gran Canaria (Spain), Ireland and Switzerland.
The Group is engaged in the manufacture of carbon steel tubes and profi les and stainless steel tubes also offering high value added solutions and products for many of the leading brand names in the most important sectors: automotive, construction, furniture, public works, etc.
Grupo Condesa
What it consists of
The cold drawn tube is obtained from welded hollows from which the internal weld is removed and one or several of the following cycles are applied:
• Heat treatment• Straightening - Pointing• Surface heat treatment• Cold drawing• Final straightening• Nondestructive (NDC) and dimensional control• Cutting
As a result of the above mentioned processes we provide the tube the special qualities and characteristics that differentiate it from precision tubes, such as:
• Strict dimensional tolerances in inside and outside diameters • Uniform oval and defl ection• Exigent roughness level and surface fi nish• Specifi c mechanical characteristics
Types of cold drawn tubes
Cold drawn tube is a product used in high-requirement applications with regard both to dimensional tolerances and mechanical and surface characteristics.
Depending on the requirements of the fi nal application, tubes are manufactured according to different fi nishing processes and one, two or more heat treatment and drawing cycles may be applied.
Examples of cold drawn tube applications include tubes for steering columns, shock absorbers, heat exchangers, silent blocks, gas springs, telescopic tubes, hydraulic circuits, etc.

Production process
HEAT TREATMENT
• The previously manufactured hollow is subjected to a normalising treatment.
• This treatment is made under a controlled, oxygen-free reducing atmosphere, that allows us to obtain perfectly clean and rust-free tubes.
STRAIGHTENING AND POINTING
• Due to the structure of the steel and the longitudinal welded seam area, the heat treatment causes defl ection in the tube.
• This defl ection must be eliminated in a straightening installation, exceeding the yield point of the material.
• In order to perform subsequent drawing operations, it is necessary to make a point in the end of the tube to hold and transmit the stress of the deformation.
CHEMICAL SURFACE TREATMENT
• After normalising, the tubes are subjected to a surface treatment that can be of two types: - Pickling, washing, phosphating and soaping - Reactive oil
• The aim of this surface treatment is to prepare the surface and to provide a lubricating effect that facilitates deformation by drawing.
8
General product characteristics
COLD DRAWING
• The drawing process is made with an interior mandrel, through an external ring.
• The tube is held in two clamps, through which the mechanical force required to produce the cold deformation is transmitted, reducing the diameter and thickness of the initial tube to produce the fi nal tube.
• In this way, the process affects both diameters (outside and inside), the thickness and both surfaces.
FINAL STRAIGHTENING
• The processes described above cause a great deal of defl ection in the pipe due to the stress to which it is subjected during the drawing process.
• This defl ection is eliminated by the straightening process, by exceeding the material’s yield point.
FINAL TUBE CONTROLS
• The fi nal manufacturing process consists of cutting the ends and the tube to the fi nal length required by the customer.
• In the same installation, all the tubes are subjected to the following controls: - Crack detection, welding and surface defects through of non-destructive
tests (Eddy Current) and/or ultrasonic tests- Dimensional
• Moreover, the following fi nal controls are performed:
- Technological tests: Flatening at 0º and 90º and expansion - Measurement of surface roughness - Destructive tests: Tensile strength, yield point, elongation - Hardness - Microscopic inspections: Grain size, decarburisation, inclusions, etc.
• The steps described above represent the minimum manufacturing cycle of a cold drawn tube. On some occasions, complete or partial additional cycles must be performed, depending on the hollows, fi nal supply conditions, surface, dimensional and mechanical properties to be obtained.

* For +A, it is recommended to apply the following ratio for the calculation: Re ≥ 0.5 Rm.

SUPPLY CONDITIONS Precision cold drawn tubes can be supplied in the following states: bright hard drawn, bright soft drawn, annealed and normalised.
+C (BK) : Hard cold drawn. No heat treatment is made after the last cold drawing process. Therefore, the tubes have a small capacity for deformation.+LC (BKW) : Soft cold drawn. After the fi nal heat treatment the tubes are slightly cold-drawn. These tubes can be cold-deformed within specifi c limits.+A (GBK) : Annealed. After the last cold-drawing operation, tubes are annealed in a controlled atmosphere. These tubes
are appropriate for plastic deformation. Rolling, Crushing, etc.+N (NBK) : Normalising. After the last cold-drawing operation, tubes are normalised (heat treatment at a temperature
above the critical or upper transformation point). These tubes are appropriate for plastic deformation. Rolling, Crushing, etc.
