Customer, for Siemens, has always been at the prime focal point. Hence serving our customers better has often carved out our larger organizational priorities and guided our corporate objectives. In our continual quest to further bolster this endeavor, we have unveiled a local repair center in Mumbai for Ruggedcom make of Ethernet switching product portfolio.
Till date, all the Ruggedcom ethernet switches were serviced and repaired by Canada factory which resulted in a longer lead time. With introduction of the local repair center in Mumbai, the total turn-around-time shall shorten significantly.

me take this opportunity to reflect on Process Automation’s achievements in
the year gone by.
The Process Instrumentation business segment has taken a quantum leap
on various fronts. It has transformed its customer service portfolio, now
delivering high speed and quality with improved infrastructure and reach.
It has also undertaken various marketing communication initiatives such as
mass marketing campaigns, customer events & Expert Communication to
improve the visibility and establish the brand image,.
In order to enhance customer experience, the Communication and
Identification business segment has set up an application engineering
cell to help resolve customers’ application-oriented problems and a local
repair center for our Ruggedcom range of products. The product portfolio
is augmented with the launch of new cost-effective range of SCALANCE
Industrial Ethernet Switches and ultra high frequency RFID readers.
Our Automation and Engineering Products segment had a special focus on
the Flexible, Modular and Redundant (FMR) safety solution for process plants
and the all new SIMATIC PCS7 SMART Distributed Control System for small to
midsized process automation applications. The automation solution provided
answers to the toughest problems of chemical, pharmaceutical, food &
beverage and water industry with their industry experience and portfolio
based on Advanced Process Control (APC), Process Analytics Technology
(PAT) & Braumatclassic solutions.
The Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) solution for stack
monitoring to fulfill the statutory requirements of pollution control board
norms was key focus area of the Analytical Product business.

Instrumentation Product Package for Die Cleaning Application
A renowned die cleaning equipment manufacturer was seeking a solution for measurement of various process parameters. The requirement was to measure the pressure and level of the die cleaning reactor chamber and temperature of the alkali buffer tank. The corrosive environment of the reactor and buffer tank needed highly reliable products.
Leveraging the width of its portfolio, Siemens offered the most suitable product package to fulfill the customers’ needs. The locally assembled SITRANS DSIII series pressure transmitter, CLS 300 capacitance level switch and 7MC series temperature sensor along with TH100 transmitter were selected for this application.
The customer was so satisfied with the product portfolio, technical support and faster delivery due to local assembly
center that they have standardized the ‘Siemens Product Package’ for its future requirement of die cleaning equipment.

screw conveyor’s volumetric measurements, operators cannot always be sure that the conveyor’s trough or tube is completely filled with material. Also, the material’s moisture content can cause errors in measurement, as the material can stick to the conveyor’s centre pipe.
The customer required an instrument with precise weighing mechanism & completely enclosed structure to avoid spillage in the process.
Siemens offered the manufacturer its special LVDT design of Solid flow meters, customized to meet the customer’s low capacity requirement. Siemens offered special PTFE Sensing Plate to ensure free flow of the sticky soya seeds. The compact size of Siemens flow meter will make installation easy without major plant modification.
A leading FMCG company involved in processing soya bean seeds faced problems in handling the low flow rate of soya seeds in one of the processes. The manufacturer used conventional systems like screw conveyors. With a

Reliable Pressure Transmitters for Power Generation
Pressure measurement is a critical parameter in thermal power generation, hence product quality and measurement reliability were key decision factors for selection. Also, the customer needed quick delivery and a strong service support.
Siemens offered its locally assembled field proven SITRANS P DSIII series pressure trasmitter. Our experience in power plant automation & reliable service support encouraged the OEM to choose Siemens pressure transmitters for this application.
Siemens Process Instrumentation team recently bagged yet another major order for a captive power plant of a steel manufacturer. The order was won through a renowned turbine OEM based in South India. The manufacturer required Pressure and Differential pressure transmitters to be installed with the turbine unit and was seeking a trusted partner who had expertise in power industry automation.

Siemens Conducts DCS Innovation conclave
Siemens Process Automation team recently organized ‘DCS Innovation Conclave’ in Chennai and Ranchi for consultants, EPCs, OEMs and End Users. The objective was to introduce the participants to the new features in PCS 7 and to cover the complete plant life cycle. The event comprised informative presentations on topics which included PCS 7 overview, PCS 7 SMART portfolio, PHIS (Process Historian / Information Server), Safety and Security, APF (Advance Process Functions), Electrical Integration and COMOS.
One of the sessions was on the integrated engineering concept of how PCS 7 contributes as a part of integrated engineering with COMOS and SIMIT (Simulation and Virtual Commissioning) platform. After each presentation, an interactive session was conducted for the customers to resolve queries on their topics of interests. A live demo of PCS 7 with AS410 including field components was arranged for the participants and they acknowledged the entire event to be highly informative.
After seeing such overwhelming response from the customers, and to further improve the visibility of new innovations & technology offered by PCS 7, Siemens has decided to organize more such events in future.

Siemens Industry Automation launched the SIMATIC PCS 7 CPU410-5H, a powerful, versatile, and rugged CPU for the process industry. One of the key features of the CPU is that it has a dimensioning model that allows users to define the performance required of the system.
SIMATIC PCS 7 CPU 410-5H gives users of the SIMATIC PCS 7, a high-performance controller with a computing capacity that can meet the high demands of the process industry such as speed, ruggedness and ability to handle complex applications. The controller is designed for round-the-clock industrial use and is capable of withstanding tough temperature, vibration, shock, and EMC (Electro Magnetic Compatibility) requirements. The additional coating of the PCBs and electronic components that comply with ISA-S71.04 Severity Level G3 enhances reliability and performance
Siemens is expanding its range of managed Industrial Ethernet switches with a new product line. The cost-effective Layer 2 Scalance XB-200 switches provide high data rates up to 100 Mbps and a multitude of functions. They support, for example, both the Profinet standard and the EtherNet/IP standard. Users can choose between both standards using a switchover function. As a result, the devices can be used for realtime communication in a variety of automation environments. The space-saving switches provide comprehensive functions for increasing safety and for configuration, diagnostics, and management of networks. Typical applications include machine networking in plants of the manufacturing industry and of the process industry such as oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. In addition, the switches can be used in logistics, building technology, and transportation.
The compact switches support VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks) and are also certified for use in hazardous areas (IECEx/ATEX Zone 2/UL HazLoc). Security functions such as multicast blocking, loop detection and access control via Radius Server allow them to be integrated into security concepts for the protection of networks.

The CPU comes as a standard high-end version in terms of memory, power, and communication interfaces. It also has a failsafe design by default and is equipped with all functions for safety-related applications. Users can define the required application-specific performance themselves with the system expansion card (SE card). This card allows the performance to be adapted at any time without replacing the CPU. For example more process objects can be loaded simply by enhancing the memory. This eliminates the need for adding a new CPU, simplifies spare part management and reduces the associated costs.
With up to 16 electrical and three optical connections (SC, ST/SC, and SC LD), the devices offer great flexibility in choosing the right switch and can even cover distances up to 26 km in single mode.
Network communication is not interrupted even during a power failure due to the redundant power supply with two 3-pin connectors.

Migration, the right way forward
A renowned cement manufacturer was looking to upgrade its existing automation system as it was not supporting the improvements in energy consumption, plant productivity & optimization of raw material consumption. The customer was also facing challenges in procuring spare parts and getting service support from the existing legacy system supplier.
Siemens offered its state-of-the-art SIMATIC PCS 7 system integrated with CEMAT software which is specially designed for cement plants. Technical presentations were made at the plant site location. Extensive features that support plant and system maintenance such as statistic
values, operating hours, downtime from faults and maintenance data for drives, dampers and valves were demonstrated which convinced the customer about the system capabilities.
The installation, pre-commissioning and commisioning was completed within the shutdown period window of 3 weeks. Needless to say, a successful execution of this order will provide a window for new opportunities and partnerships with the customer for all its upcoming cement automation projects.

SIPAT
PAT (Process Analytical Technology) for batch tablet production for Pharma company
areas in western markets – anti-cancer, anti-diabetes, cardiovascular and anti-infection drugs.
The main goal was to develop technologies to augment production revenue and to diminish waste batches. For these measurements the customer used SIPAT on two Unit operations. The first one on the Glatt Wurster Coating and second one on the blending step where SIPAT was to be coupled with the NIR (Near Infrared). The customer’s objective was to use SIPAT to finally close loop control of the process via the existing automation system of the Wurster coaters and thereby ensure that the batch-critical quality parameters (CQP) are within specification at point of release.
Siemens was the most preferred vendor because of the proven experience in this field; their understanding of the customer needs, a successful Proof of Concept onsite and providing a customer oriented approach in all communications.

One-stop Automation Solution for Desalination Plant
A leading Water Authority in United Arab Emirates decided to automate its 15 MIGD Desalination Plant with Siemens DCS SIMATIC PCS 7 through one of the EPC Contractor based in Pune. Owing to the strong in-house competency, Siemens Water & Waste Water team was involved at a very early stage of the project and helped the customer in defining the Functional Design Specification (FDS) and detailed Control Philosophy which the EPC used as a part of his complete bid.
Thus, due to the strong domain expertise and early involvement, Siemens was not only able to win the customer’s confidence and trust, but was also treated as its preferred Automation Partner.
The complete scope for Siemens included both Automation and Instrumentation. Siemens was successful in automating the complete plant with SIMATIC PCS 7 V8.0 SP2. Milltronics MMI Belt scale
Maintenance-free Material Handling Solution
One of the largest cement manufacturing companies in North India required relatively simple in design and maintenance free belt scales with an accuracy of +0.5% for Wagon tippler application. The customer faced problems in maintaining and calibrating existing belt scales in its plant as the belt scale required high maintenance due to its big platform design.
Siemens offered its MSI Belt Scale which has a single weighing frame design, is easy to install and is also maintenance free. It provided an accuracy of +/-0.5% and was placed directly below two idlers on the conveyor frame. The Siemens belt scale is light in weight by design. It provides accurate and reliable material flow reading inspite of uneven belt loading. The weighing controller offered by Siemens provided the material flow rate, belt
loading, belt speed and totalizing of the product. All these parameters were transferred to the customer’s PLC via Profibus connectivity.
The Milltronics MSI Belt Scales are now made in India and come with the same quality and industry-leading weighing technology with a delivery span within 4 weeks from the date of order placement.
