D irector’s Report

Dear Parents and Carranballac Community Members Boardwalk Wakakirri rehearsal took place this morning and was reportedly a fabulous dress rehearsal.

Chookas to our Wakakirri team for Monday 22 August.

I would like to pass on my congratulations to both our Parents and Friends team and our Foundation –

Year 6 students for an excellent College disco. Thanks also goes to the staff helpers who assisted with

general supervision and behind the counter food handling.

It was a fun night in with an enjoyable atmosphere. I am now looking forward to the P and F Trivia night

on the Saturday 27 August. Have you booked your table yet?

Special thanks goes to our Green Gang, Rock Band, Soundhouse choir and staff who attended the Arndell

Community centre last Saturday. The feedback I have received is that our College was proudly and ex-

pertly represented once again.

First Aid Management: Currently our First Aid staff call all families for any first aid incident that takes

place. We have undertaken a review of this process and will be implementing a new strategy to inform

families from the commencement of term four. The intention is to provide all families with access to our

new communication system (COMPASS) through an APP. This will work on all phones. We will provide

everyone with specific advice towards the end of the term. This improvement will be far more effective

for everyone involved.

FOPA - Festival of Performing Arts: Jamieson Way gym was once again transformed into a professional

staged environment last week and schools from both Wyndham and Hobson’s Bay came to perform. Car-

ranballac College put on an excellent event under the expert guidance of Gaye Edmonds. We need to be

very proud of our College’s ability to both perform and to also host such significant events as FOPA.

FOPA was complimented by FOVA (Festival of Visual Arts) held at the town centre. In the same manner

the College provided access to a range of students and schools in order for your children’s art work to be

displayed publicly and to be acknowledged. Well done Gaye and supporters.

Camps are on this week and over the next two weeks. I take this opportunity to thank families for sup-

porting these outdoor education learning opportunities for their children. You may notice that your child

is both tired and also a little more grown up after the experience. Please take the time to share with

them the highlights of their adventure.

B oardwalk School Report

Our HERO program (Here Every day On- Time) continues to

gain momentum with the attendance and punctuality of stu-dents being recognised and acknowledged. Congratulations

to those students who have received an award as a college ‘HERO’ and a huge thank you to Samantha Bourke who has

made over 100 Hero capes for our prize winners to proudly

wear. Whilst the HERO program is a light-hearted and posi-tive way to promote attendance, this initiative is based on

the knowledge that 100% attendance will optimise the learning outcomes for our students.

I extend a warm welcome to Mr Villani who is acting as Mid-dle Years Assistant Principal at Boardwalk whilst Mrs Doyle

enjoys some long service leave.

Congratulations to our magnificent Parents and Friends who held a very successful disco last Friday night. This was an

excellent event and very well attended. Another example of the commitment and support we enjoy in our college com-

munity. Don’t forget to book your tickets for the Trivia night

which will be held on Saturday 27 August.

Our Year 3 and 4 students headed off to Angelsea camp on

Wednesday. Let’s hope this beautiful sunshine continues for the week.

Thank you to Ms Huell and her pre-service teachers for or-

ganising our College athletics team to compete at the VU track in Werribee last week. All our Year 3-6 students who

attended are to be commended on their overall effort and sportsmanship.

I recommend to you the Compass program. This program

is for 10-14 year olds and is designed to enhance the devel-

opment of the individual child by setting their own challeng-

ing activities and learning of new skills. It is modelled on

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and comprises

four levels across four sections.

Mr Beiers is coordinating this program this year and stu-

dents will begin their personalized challenges via organizing,

planning and completing a hobby, recreational activity, ad-

venture activity and community volunteering.

Breakfast club continues to operate on Tuesdays and Fridays

and is coordinated by committed and enthusiastic Year 9

students. My personal thanks to the many teachers who also

come along on these mornings to help out.

J amieson Way School Report

Our amazing Year 3/4 students walked, climbed, jumped, paddled, ran, laughed, talked, questioned, explained, played, listened and learnt their way through three fabulous days at Camp Wilkin. We can be very proud of the growth in their personal devel-opment especially for those students who were on their very first camp. Well done! Thank you to our wonderful staff who ensured our students made the most of every experience. The excitement is building for our next camp - the Year 5/6 Goldfields camp, with one group touring next week and the second group travelling the week after. Conversations with our Year 9 students at the mo-ment are all around their course selections for Year 10 at Point Cook Senior Secondary. Many of our par-ents took advantage of the offer from PCSS staff to join their children in individual advice sessions on site at Jamieson Way. Our Year 9 classes are very focussed on ensuring they are prepared for the start of their final stage of schooling. We are very proud that a group of our student lead-ers will be representing our college community this Thursday at The Shrine of Remembrance for the 50th anniversary of The Battle of Long Tan on Vi-etnam Veterans Day. This is a significant occasion to honour such bravery and we trust this will be a valued lifelong memory for these students. The Premier's Reading Challenge is drawing to a close. Our college librarians ask for all lists to be handed in to the library by Sept 5. Will your child be a HERO this week??

This event celebrated its 28th year and it is the fourth year it has been hosted at the Ja-mieson Way campus.
