Dear Parents and Families of Colo Vale, Welcome to a new year of school. This year we aim to connect more with our parent community through online platforms and engage the children deeply in exciting learning opportunities. We also welcome two new staff members, Miss Hagedoorn on 3/4P for Term 1 and Mr Matthews on 5/6M as a permanent appointment. The NSW Department of Education has been amazing in their support of schools and their communities as we recover from a summer few will forget. We have had the Silver Coin Project Charity donate sixty brand new bags full of school supplies to our school for those affected by the Green Wattle Creek fire. We did not have sixty impacted children and families. I set about finding a network within our system that we could help. I contacted the Bateman’s Bay Network who then identified the Snowy Mountains Region were in need. We sent our extra bags to Monaro High School yesterday afternoon. Families affected in this region span from Kosciusko National Park to the Badja Forest. This includes the Good Good Fire and the Badja Forest Fire as well as families on the outskirts of Canberra. It is an expansive network with many affected. The bags we sent will be well used. Our core value at Colo Vale is to be kind. It is important our children see their leaders modelling this as well as their teachers and class mates. Kindergarten started at Colo Vale this week. They have settled in well and adapted to their routines quickly. The longer transition we began last year has aided this. Miss B is very excited to be the Kindy teacher and brings a wealth of experience teaching Kindergarten to the role. Our older children are getting used to new teachers and demands of their classes. ‘Meet the Teacher’ will be in Week 4 (Thursday 20 February). Details of this are on the calendar in this Newsletter. I am keen to get a calendar out to parents and carers so you have advance notice of events for the year. This allows you to organise busy schedules in advance. It will be ready soon. The children will be encouraged to learn our PBL rules of Respectful, Responsible and Resilient students who are kind. Teachers will be rewarding these behaviours and teaching what these attributes look like in the classroom, playground and other areas around the school. The aim is to reward often, redirect where needed and focus on the positive. Wellbeing week will be in Week 6 of each term to allow eve- ryone to have a break. It helps our children Connect, Succeed and Thrive. Assemblies will be each week Friday at 12.30pm. We will not start assemblies until Week 4 as we have our Swimming Carnival in Week 3 and House meetings this week. The Swimming Carnival this year will include 25m events. I am keen for every child to have the opportunity to swim and be part of our school swimming carnival. Kindergarten will join us until12:00pm and then return to school. I invite parents and families to join us. The P&C will be running a BBQ for lunch. The note for this will be coming home shortly. Dear Parents and Families of Colo Vale,

Welcome to a new year of school.

Wellbeing week will be in Week 6 of each term to allow eve-ryone to have a break.

Colo Vale Public School P&C 2020 It was lovely to see so many people at our P&C meeting on Monday night. Another busy and exciting year begins. Our next meeting is on March 2 at 7:00pm in the library. This will be our annual AGM followed by a regular meeting. It is a great time to come along and get involved, as all roles become vacant and anyone from our school community can nominate to take on a role. It is currently $1 to become a financial member and have the right to vote. It is also perfectly fine to come to any P&C meeting without being a financial member, and there is no obligation to attend every meeting. So, feel free to come along and see what we are working on. We are trying out a few new fundraising ideas this year including a Bunnings BBQ, cake stall at Colo Vale Markets and a twilight fete on April 3. The fete is a big undertaking, but it has the potential to be a great social event for the community to come together after a challenging Summer and have some fun. We will be looking for volunteers to help on the day. If you have a business that could donate a product or a voucher for services, that we can use as prizes for things like the Chocolate Wheel, please get in touch, it would be a massive help! Our canteen is volunteer run and we are looking for more volunteers to help. If you could help out on a Friday, please contact Liz Lawfull. It can be once a term or once a year, or more often, whatever suits you. This great service for our kids can only exist if people are prepared to help. A big thank you to all those parents who already help out when they can. There is no canteen at school on Friday 14 February as we will be at the pool cooking a sausage sizzle lunch for everyone at the swimming carnival. P&C supports our school in providing the best learning environment for our kids. This year we have already donated $5,000 towards new laptops and $5,000 towards to lovely new library furniture. Every bit of profit we make is put towards learning resources, events and equipment that benefit every child in our school. On behalf of the P&C, I would like to wish you and your family all the best for 2020. Mia Macmurray President CVPS P&C Email: [email protected] or message me via Messenger from the Parents of CVPS Facebook page.

CVPS 2020 CANTEEN NOTICE Dear Families of Colo Vale Public School, This year our canteen will see some changes. Please see our menu on the next page. Our weekly meal deals will be available every Friday as in previous years, however they will be adapting to the new Healthy Canteen food guidelines set by the NSW Government.

Page 1 of the menu describes our meal deal lists, which will vary each week.

Page 2 lists items for sale each Friday lunch and recess. We hope that this will encourage some healthy choices for our kids, whilst also enabling them to enjoy the special canteen days. For all our new families, our meal deals are available as a pre-order. The order forms are sent home on Mondays listing the deal (all kids will eat the same thing) unless they order something off the bottom of the form. We ask that the form and money is returned to Banksia Box (in front office) by Wednesday.

Meal deals are served at lunch, 11:00am. Meal deals will differ each week. After they finish eating (at/near) their classrooms, they can bring their money up to canteen to order off the menu. (page 2)

As always, we are looking for any volunteers who may be available to help over a rotating roster on Fridays. Even if it’s only 1 Friday a term. If you are interested in volunteering and can help in anyway, please get in contact with me either on my mobile 0416149550 or through the Parents of CVPS Facebook page. Once again thank you for supporting your school canteen and we hope through the assistance of many volunteers we can see our canteen stay operational for many years to come.

Sincerely Liz and the CVPS P&C
