WeinvitethewidercommunitytogiveconsiderationtostandingfortheboardoftrusteesatRussellStreet

School.AllofNewZealand'sstateandstate-integratedschoolshaveaboardoftrustees.Theboardoftrustees

istheCrownentityresponsibleforthegovernanceandthecontrolofthemanagementoftheschool.Theboardistheemployerofallstaffintheschool,isresponsibleforsettingtheschool'sstrategicdirectioninconsultation

withparents,staffandstudents,andensuringthatitsschoolprovidesasafeenvironmentandqualityeducation

forallitsstudents.Boardsarealsoresponsibleforoverseeingthemanagementofpersonnel,curriculum,

property,financeandadministration.Shouldyouwishtoknowmoreabouthowtostand,orhowtogoabout

nominatingsomeoneelse,thenpleasemakecontactwiththeoffice(Ph3586671).NominationscloseMay16.

Asubstantialpartoflearningintermoneisestablishingtheecologyoflearning(thecultureandexpectations).

Thisyearthisimportantprocesshasinvolvedallstudentslearningaboutandthroughwhakawhanaungatanga

(positiverelationships)establishingastrongclass,team,buddyandschoolfoundationforfurtherlearningand

playingtogether.Centraltothislearningwasafull-schoolvisit,overfourdays,toTeAhuaTurangamaraein

Woodville.Experiencinglifeandlearningonthisbeautifulmaraewasenrichingforusallandformanychildrenafirst-timeexperience.Someofthestunningandveryintricateart,soontobeseenthroughouttheschool,was

inspiredbythis.

Thankyoutothewidercommunityfortheactivesupportandinvolvementofouroperations,evenifyouhave

neverhadchildrenattendRSS.Theschoolbenefitsfromthisinsomanywaysincludingbutnotlimitedto

enhancedsecurity,fundraisingandmostimportantly,directsupportofstudentlearning.It

wasapleasurecatchingupwithmanyformerstudentsandfamiliesatourrecentcar-boot

sale.Wehopeyousoldlotsand/ormanagedafewgoodbargainsalongtheway.

BoardofTrusteesWindow:

TermOnehasseenafocusonapprovingtargetsandplansfortheyearahead,aswellascompletionof

reportingforthe2012calendaryear.TheBoardhassentoffandhadapproved,therangeofreportsrequired

bytheMinistryofEducation,andhascompletedallfinancialrequirementsinpreparationfortheaudit.Ithas

developedplansandprogrammestosupporttheambitious,on-goinggoalswehaveforstudentsand

engagedinfurtherpolicyreview.

AchievementInformationonthelinkbetweenattendanceandachievement/progress,tabledrecently,shows

astrongpositivelinkbetweenattendingandachieving;whileareportonkeycompetencies,generally

showsthatstudentsrelatewell,managetheirlearningeffectively,andfocusonthelearningintentionor

goal.TheAnnualEnrolmentSchemereviewresultedinagreementthattheschemewouldcontinueinitspresent

form.Theschoolisexperiencinganin-zonebulgethatdoesntlooklikereducingforsomeyearsyet.

TheBoardandindeedwidercommunitywanttothankouroutgoingBoardmembers,whoarenotre-

standing,fortheirverypositivecontributiontothegovernanceandoperationsoftheschool.LeanneBrown

hasbeenamemberforthelastthreeyearsandhassharedhercreativity,communityspiritandintelligence

openly;whileGraemeBrownhasbeenatirelessmemberforsixyearsinarangeofroles,alwaysleadingwith

integrity,wisdomandanunfailingoptimism.Thankyouboth,youwillbesorelymissed.
