Community Garden at Emmanuel

In recent weeks a team of dedicated people have been working hard to resurrect the vegetable garden beds in our church grounds. Unfortunately due to issues with the Birallee Park Neighbourhood House the garden boxes had become neglected and overgrown with weeds. Attempts were made at the start of the year to clean up the garden

beds with support from the Department of Justice outdoor work crews. However only two visits eventuated and nothing occurred after this. The gardens have now come under the stewardship of the church and community users are welcome to be involved in re-establishing and planting new seedlings. To get things going Carol Harris, Don and Hazel Barrett, Carol Clutterbuck and David Horsfall have been hard at work over the last two weeks to commence weeding and getting the vegetable boxes back to order. There is much yet to be done. An invitation is extended to everyone who might have time to spare and who love gardening to come along on Wednesday and give a hand. Hopefully we can reach a stage very soon to start Spring and Summer planting.

those affected by violence and terrorism, and that such violent attacks might cease

leaders of churches, that they might speak out courageously against political, social and economic injustices

Just and peaceful relations between members of different ethnic groups and between Muslims and Christians

Those who suffer from malnutrition and diseases such as malaria, whooping cough and HIV and AIDS

Better stewardship of the environment and natural resources.

The Kyneton daffodil festival unsurprisingly features ‘hosts of golden daffodils’ in plantations bordering the main entries to the town as well as throughout its local parks and in home gardens. Wordsworth would be delighted. This lovely display, with all the promise of spring and new birth it promotes, gives a charmingly simple introduction to other contemplations of the wonders of God’s Creation. Wordsworth sums up the pleasure of his encounter of a similar mass daffodil planting by a lake in a manner that we

might relate to whenever we recall such abundance:

I gazed—and gazed—but little thought

what wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.

Reflection: Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it. Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy. Psalm 96: 11-12
