For God & CountryCommander Gary Nelson
Greetings Fellow Veterans Some one asked me recently “ where was God when I needed Him?” Perhaps you may have had similar thoughts as well. The truth simply is that God is always present, God does not come and go, the problem
is us. People quite automatically cry out for God when they are in trouble, but seem
to forget about Him at other times. God is not a spiritual vending machine where we put in a plea for help and out comes the solution. The fact is, we are fully dependent upon God. He gave us life and He sustains life. He only knows the date of our death , and until that time He is available to help us navigate the path of life. Jesus said “... for without Me , you can do nothing” (John 15:5) ‘, and “... I will never leave you nor forsake you...” ( Heb.13:5). So you see friends, if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, you do not need to ask where God is, He is within you. God Bless You SDG

Greetings Riders, I would first like to thank Ed Falkows-ki and Charlotte for their participation in teaching classes at the American Legion Riders Summit held in Cocoa Beach on February 6th through the 10th. A lot was learned and all had a good time. Thanks to each one of our Chapter 80 Riders who took time to participate in the
Osceola County Law Ride on Saturday February 23rd. The Osceola Law Ride (which is held each year at Orlando Har-ley Davidson South) is always a great escorted ride and good time. It was originally started by Major Ron Burnett (retired) of the Osceola County Sheriff ’s Office in memory of his son Jason Burnett (U.S. Marine Corp) who was killed in action serving in the Gulf War. Moving on to what we have going on in March. Tuesday March 5th is our regular American Legion Riders meeting. Remember the March meeting is the first of three Months of nominations of Officers. Saturday March 9th is the American Legion 6th District Meeting being held at Post 80. 9:00 AM registration 9:30 AM Meeting Starts. Saturday March 16 is the American Legion 100 Mile Birth-day Celebration Run. This event is a Statewide ALR event to raise funds for Post 375 Southport Florida damaged by the hurricane. Stay in touch with what’s going on at your Post. If you Ride come join the Riders. We’re doing great things.
Remember, we ride for the Cause not the Applause.

Membership REPORT As of 2/15/19, we have new/renewed 235 members. We are currently at 84.8%. Our goal set by Department and National is 277 members to reach 100%. We are short 42 members to reach that goal. For the month of February, we have had 15 members either renew or join. So please continue to recruit new members and encourage others to renew or rejoin. Although we only need 42 to members to reach 100% which is also because we have recruited new members, but we have 60 members on record that haven’t paid their 2019 dues. We need to reach out to those members and see why they haven’t renewed. I know that everybody that joins has their reasons for joining. I also know that not everybody can always volunteer or attend meetings. When you are a member you contribute to our programs in one way or another. When you come into the canteen for our dinners or drinks, you are supporting the Post/Auxiliary/Riders and Sons’ Programs. When you participate in Bar Bingo/Bingo, Roadkill, and Show Me the Money you are supporting the Post/Auxiliary/Riders and Sons’ Programs. When you bring in can goods, toiletries, and items for the VA, you are supporting Post/Auxiliary/Riders and Sons’ Programs. We are all here to support our Veteran’s, this is who we are. So, lets encourage our members to renew and also solicit new members. When asked “What is the American Legion/Auxiliary/Sons of American Legion and Why should I belong?” This is who we are and why we exist “The American Legion is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization with great political influence perpetuated by its grass-roots involvement in the legislation process from local districts to Capitol Hill. Legionnaires’ sense of obligation to community, state and nation drives an honest advocacy for veterans in Washington. The Legion stands behind the issues most important to the nation’s veteran’s community, backed by resolutions passed by volunteer leadership.” (www.legion.org) “The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives.” (www.legion.org)National has started sending out a second renewal notice, if you have already renewed and have your 2019 card, PLEASE DISREGARD THIS NOTICE. Also, remember when signing someone into the Post for one of our activities, if they are eligible to be members, Post, Sons, or Auxiliary, they can only be signed in three times. If you recruit a new member please put your name of the back of the application form.
