To punctuate titles and to set off speaker’s exact
words. Remember they always come in pairs

We sang “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” in music class.
Before and after spoken words
“What’s that?”, I asked.
Take your Self Selected Book and identify quotations in
your book.
Talk to a partner the reason why quotations are used in
those cases.
To set off a speaker’s words in a sentence
“No!”, Maggie said, “ we can’t go with you!”
After an introductory word ( a name or a surprise expression)
