Start Right, Run Well, Finish Strong! Half of our 27th year is almost over, and we thank God for His continuous guidance and favor upon us. KMBI has indeed grown not only in numbers, but also in maturity in many aspects. I believe one of the major contributory factors is our UNITY. Our ONE TEAM started right this year!

They said there is no “I” in TEAM. But team’s IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) is /tim/. There is the “I” in the middle! Our team will not function rightly without the many individual contributors - the “I’s” - who give their effort, their knowledge, their all in this ministry. These individuals are fully committed to the goal. They expend themselves not only for the work, but also in building up their aptitude through the following:

• EQUIP TECHNICALLY:They continuously upgrade their knowledge and skills. They study the industry and keep on learning to make significant contributions to the organization.

• BUILD A STRONG SOCIAL BASE: Family, friends, accountability group mates, cell group co-members, the church community, neighbors – they rely on the support of these people. They may reserve their support groups to only a few or many; they cultivate quality relationships – one that grow over time, in many seasons, and through ups and downs. They prioritize them, especially the family, over work.

• VALUE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD – above all!

You are one of these individual contributors! You are one of the “I’s” in this team, and I thank you for putting premium on this ministry by putting your time, your effort, your passion to this cause. “This new guideline would be of big help to the program members since it would make the insurance processing claims faster,” said Microinsurance coordinator Juanita Raquepo.

136 avails Flu Vaccine Shot

KMBI received $1,000 and four tablet PCs for the software development of the Simplified Accounting System (SAS) project intended for program members on May 16, 2013.

The project is in joint collaboration with Ateneo De

Manila University whose aim is to help program members engaged in sari-sari store business to utilize simplified accounting system in monitoring their profit margins. It is currently being piloted to three program members from KMBI Tandang Sora Branch. Mobile banking is soon to be

available in KMBI as it recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with DAI-USAID to build the SIMM or Scaling Innovations with Mobile Money last April 2013.

Mobile Money is currently seen as the future trend in Microfinance as well as an added convenience for clients as it eliminates the need to travel far to transact with banks and KMBI branches. This is especially helpful for clients who cannot afford to be away from their sari-sari stores or be absent from their own businesses. On the institutional side, Mobile Money may help improve efficiency by decreasing transaction and administrative costs.

To date, series of consultations with KMBI officers and staff are being run by consultants from PHB Development (Europe-based) and Software Group (Philippine-based).

KMBI signs MOU on Mobile Banking

At least 136 KMBI staff and their families availed the discounted flu vaccine shots on May 3, 2013 in simultaneous activities held at the Head Office, West Avenue Extension Office and various branches in Metro Manila.

According to Jefferson Alegre, company nurse, the vaccination activity was a joint effort of KMBI, Aventus Medical Care Inc.,

and Intellicare. KMBI organized the activity to prepare the staff for the rainy season as this is the time when most people would acquire flu. “The flu vaccine shot can keep the body immune from the flu for a year that’s why we’re planning on having this vaccination activity again next year,” added Alegre.


KMBI Valenzuela Branch program members received medical services through the Community Health Day on April 26, 2013 at the Rosas Arcade Building, CCT Office in Malabon City. This is part of the Joint Microfinance and Health Protection Program of Microfinance Institutions in the Philippines.

“Among the 687 recipients from

the Microfinance institutions around the area, i.e. KMBI, CCT, CARD-MRI and ASA Philippines, we had 147 program members who were able to take advantage of this medical mission,” said Mary Rose de Guzman, KMBI Valenzuela branch manager.

Aside from the medical services, free dental and circumcision services were also provided to

the program members in time for the summer season. “Prices of medicines were even 50% off for KMBI program members,” de Guzman added.

HO Staff attend PAG-IBIG Fund seminar

At least 27 HO staff attended the PAG-IBIG Fund Orientation Seminar held at the KMBI Head Office on April 15, 2013.

“The seminar focused on the discussion on provident savings, online registration system, modified PAG-IBIG 2, multi-purpose loan, housing loan programs as well as other concerns affecting the employees’ membership with the said government agency,” said Emmanuel Manlapaz, training associate.

The Transformation Department organized the first outdoor Scholars’ Summer Fellowship for KILOS and AFP scholars on May 24, 2013 at the Hidden Sanctuary Hotel and Resort in Marilao, Bulacan.

The activities were facilitated by Ptr. Marvin Roberts of Ablaze for Jesus Christian Ministries and were focused on developing the emotional quotient and creating camaraderie among the scholars. “We believe that activities like this will help influence our scholars in becoming future Christ-centered leaders since they already are gifted academically,” said Sweetheart Maga, transformation coordinator.

KMBI organizes outdoor fellowship for scholars


337 program members attended the three networking days organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Services for the second quarter of 2013 from Pampanga and Cebu.

“The event aims to give opportunities to program members to improve and expose their products while expanding their business network,” said Janet Lunzaga, EDS associate.

In cooperation with the area and branch officers, the events were graced by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) representatives to discuss Basic

Entrepreneurship and its rewards and risks, characteristics of an entrepreneur, and free services of DTI for microentrepreneurs. Some program members, like Nelda Salcedo from Pampanga and Ester Ardale from Legazpi gave inspirational talks on how they started and managed to keep their businesses going.

“It was successful because attendees learned the fundamentals of entrepreneurship through the talks and were inspired by the sharing of stories of some of our more successful program members,” added Lunzaga.

12 families affected by the fire incident in Brgy. Don Bosco, Paranaque City under the Metro Manila South 2 Branch received assistance from KMBI on June 6, 2013.

KMBI allotted Php24,480 to buy galvanized iron, plywood and grocery items which included canned goods, rice, noodles, biscuit and powdered juice.

“We’re glad that nobody was hurt among our program members and that they are slowly recovering from the incident,” said Nomer Relleta, MMS2 program unit supervisor.

12 more KMBI program members attended the Entrepreneurship and Management Training organized by Bayan Academy in

partnership with Citi Philippines at Bayan Academy, Quezon City from May 2 to 24, 2013.

“The participating program members, who are from Valenzuela and Novaliches branches are in or past their 3rd loan cycle and have been recommended by their branch managers,” said Janice Balahadia, EDS associate.

The Entrepreneurship and Management Training of the Citi Microenterprise Development Center (CMDC) aims to help microentrepreneurs improve their knowledge on entrepreneurship as they face the challenges of expanding and growing their businesses.



Do you think it is easy being a leader?

Maybe you’ve seen in television shows how bosses/leaders usually just sit around their desk, ordering people around; but in reality, they carry so much responsibility that I bet some of you would even think twice about wishing for the position once you’ve learned what they actually do. But wait, being a leader is not just about work and responsibility. Leaders influence mindset and behaviors, and create ripples of change. So then, what can we do to become a successful leader?

Communicate well and Give what is dueIt is of utmost importance that you, as a leader, would know how to treat and communicate with your staff well. Never intimidate other people but rather make it comfortable for them to speak out and express their opinion. And remember to always pay attention to what your staff is doing. Give them feedback with regard to their job and you should also be open to welcome reciprocal feedback by creating trustworthy relationships with them. And if you have observed that your staff has, indeed, done well, give him/her the reward

s/he truly deserves. Successful leaders never take consistent performers for granted, keep that in mind.

Be a Mentor and a Leader in OneIt is important to not only be concerned about your own advancement but also of your staff. One of the reasons why one becomes a leader is because of the experiences learned that could be shared to others. Your staff needs your guidance as their leader; don’t let them stray from the path. But it’s not just about telling them your experience/s but also to show that whatever it is that you’re teaching them, you really are applying it in your job. Be a living example of what you want them to be and what you want them to do.

Listen and LearnAlthough it is good to give yourself a pat on the head and acknowledge the wisdom and intellect you garnered through all the years you’ve been in the industry, it is still not good enough of a reason to bluntly show people that you’re better than them and that you do not need to learn anymore. Acknowledge the fact that you still have got a lot to learn. Although you need to look confident and smart on

the outside, remember that as a leader you must constantly improve yourself because nothing is constant in this world but change.

Love the Job and the ResponsibilityLove your position not because of the power you have but because of the impact and change you can create. And if you would notice, successful leaders seem to be really proficient at solving problems. That is why never procrastinate to avoid problems. Face the problems in order to solve them! Do not be afraid to go down and get your hands dirty every once in awhile – that’s how effective leaders are.

In order to be a successful leader, you need to go through a lot in order to learn a lot as well. The road will never be easy especially when you’re already on the top. People may pull you down and the job may stress you out but that is why you shouldn’t be too relaxed. Be a leader who can help, inspire and move others; and when you see how you’ve helped change peoples’ lives, that’s when you’ll realize the true essence of being a leader.

During one of our APPEND Party list center orientation, I asked

program members of how their life was faring. Since they were on their 8th loan cycle, I inquired if they had seen dramatic changes occurring in their lives during the past four years. Together with their inherent “sipag at tyaga” and our consistent microfinance and values assistance, had things changed for the better or are they much of the same? Their unanimous answer was, it’s still the same. When you refer at the percentage of growth oriented microentrepreneurs among our client rank, it still remains at 6-8% of total client population, which by the way is a microfinance industry trend. Are we making a dent against our fight against poverty? Are clients moving forward in transformation despite the odds against them?

Don’t get me wrong, I am witness of the tremendous amount of energy, dedication and resources we are giving day in and day out. Also, in fairness with our clients, most of them are

persevering, hard working and honest women who spend most of their time to support and take care of their families. So if KMBI is doing its best, and clients are doing their best, how can we ensure that most, if not all of our clients are undergoing holistic transformation in their lives?

1. True Change starts with Me. Cliché but this is true. You can’t give what you don’t have, you can’t let people experience transformation when you had not undergone that. Perhaps this is the main reason why a lot of our staff chose to stay in KMBI. As you begin to understand its mission, you will also realize that you need to personally have close relationship with the Lord, which manifests itself in the way you look at yourself, you relate with people, and in your work. Only then will we realize that authentic and long term change does not start and end with economics or accumulation of things but a heart cleansed from sin and living for God and obeying His will daily.

2. My Place is Right Here. This is a natural progression of the first point made clear why we are in KMBI at this point of our lives. The Bible speaks of God’s plan for us in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Amazingly, we are You-nique. No carbon copy, no clone, custom designed with a special purpose in this earth. One of course is our life calling. Not a career, but a special calling that we are made aware of and are pursuing daily. Apart from having a source of living, we stay in KMBI and do things required of us because it is clear that our present vocation, expertise, gifting and personhood are all needed to fulfill its mission to its clients and staff. This prevents us from deriving our being from our present work and positions. You begin to tell yourself “I am a vital part of KMBI. I am called by God at this time to KMBI”.

3. Together You and Me make KMBI. Mission ownership also calls for an owner mindset. “What if we are the owners of this enterprise? What do we do with our time & resources? Where do we put our efforts? Where do we invest ourselves in?” And in sense, we are “owners of this non-stock, not-for-profit development NGO”. I am an owner of the vision and mission, and I conduct my business in line with our core values every day. I am KMBI. This should be our I-sight. KMBI is not about structures and positions and money and programs. It is about us, united in mindset and consistently delivering outstanding customer services to our clients.

4. One KMBI makes KMBI One. Lastly, we need to be reminded that we should be united in our tasks. While we are in the process of making decisions, we need to consider the inputs of our teammates. That’s why we at times argue, we question, we challenge each other in

search of the best solutions for our problems. But when we make a decision, we stick to it and united we carry it out. “Silo thinking” or department thinking will not work in the long term. We face our problems squarely, accept the truth (both the good and ugly), and jointly resolve it as one team. And Team KMBI includes our suppliers, our donors and partners, our program clients, our families all of which are the agents of transformation themselves.

An Army of God’s AgentsWhen we do our best every day, as we experience His transforming power in our lives, as we share this to our clients, as our clients personally experience this change, and therefore initiate change in their families, we are creating momentum that would be eventually a wave of change that would be replicated or complement other efforts of civil society, of government, and of the church in making this world just, progressive, righteous, safe and better for the next generations.

This reminds us of Jesus’ parable of the yeast (Matthew 13:33) where a woman mixed yeast in an absurdly large batch of flour. Even though the yeast was insignificant in number and has disappeared from view, it continues to work its way in the flour mixture, changing it significantly. It is not a question of fact, or would the yeast change the dough, but only a matter of time.

And that, fellow KMBI, is the story of our act. Holistic transformation is not a question of fact, but only a matter of time.

Taun-taon na lang ay nagbabaha sa kalakhang Maynila at sa paghupa

nga nito ay ano nga ba ang bubungad sa’yo? Plastik, plastik at sandamakmak na plastik! Kaya naman lahat tayo ay ayaw ng plastik maliban na lamang kung may pabrika ka ng plastik o nagbebenta ka ng plastik. Hindi naman kasi lingid siguro sa kaalaman natin ang mga negatibong epekto nito sa ating kapaligiran, ‘di ba?

Pero sa totoo lang, siguro kung papipiliin ka ngayon kung ano ang gagamitin mo, malamang plastik ang pipiliin mo, ano? Kahit alam na natin ang negatibong epekto nito, ito pa din kasi ang pinakaconvenient gamitin, tama ba? Isipin mo na lang:

Kailangan mo pang bumili ng cloth bag sa halagang 35-75 pesos pero ang plastik libre lang kapag namili ka o di kaya may charge lang na piso o 2 piso; pero okay lang sa atin kaysa magbitbit lagi ng cloth bag.

Ang cloth bag kailangan mo pa labhan kapag nadumihan pero ang plastik pwede nang itapon.Ang plastic pwedeng gawing trash bag dahil hindi naman kaya ng papel ang mga basang basura.

Totoo naman na nakakatamad nang baguhin ang nakasanayan mo na. Pero kung hanggang ngayon ay ganito pa rin ang pag-iisip mo, ang dapat sa’yo ay tabunan ng plastik dahil kuntento ka na sa mga nangyayari sa paligid mo! Pinaiiral mo na naman ang pagiging kuripot, tamad o walang disiplina sa ‘di tamang lugar.

Kung talagang nais mo ng mabago ang mga nangyayari sa kapaligiran mo dapat tandaan na change starts from within. Huwag mong asahan na magbago ang mga nakapaligid sa’yo kung ikaw mismo ayaw mo pang simulan ang pagbabago. At alam mo ba kung bakit hate na hate nga ni Mother Earth ang plastik?

Dahil ang plastik ay matagal mabulok! Ayon nga sa pag-aaral, 1,000 years nga daw ito bago matunaw. Wala ka na sa mundo may plastik pa din! Hindi ko lubos maisip na mas matagal pang mamamalagi ang mga plastik kaysa sa atin.

At dahil nga aabutin pa ng libong taon bago matunaw ang plastic, alam mo ba na nagdadaan ito sa proseso ng photodegration na kung saan imbes na mabulok nga ay nagbebreakdown ito sa mas maliliit pa na plastic at

pumapasok sa mga waterways, nagcocontaminate ng lupa at maaari pa ngang makain ng mga hayop o ng tao. Kadiri ‘di ba?

Sinasabi pa ngang ang plastik ang isa sa mga dahilan ng pagkamatay ng ilang mga hayop tulad na lamang ng mga turtles o dolphin na napagkakamalang jellyfish ang mga plastik.

At isa sa mga pinaka-nararanasan natin taun-taon ay ang pagbabara ng ating mga estero na syang sanhi ng malawakang pagbabaha.

Masasabi mo pa bang, “it’s worth it” matapos mo ngang mabasa ang mga bagay na ito? Tunay ngang ang basurang itinapon mo ay babalik hindi lamang sa’yo ngunit pati na rin sa mga inosenteng hayop na nanganganib na maubos dahil lamang sa plastik. Ilan taon nga mula ngayon ay babalikan naman nito ang ating mga anak sa pamamagitan na lamang ng baha at iba pang mga sakunang nagsisimula ng dahil lamang sa plastik! Kaya naman magiging tamad at kuripot ka pa ba? Sabi nga ‘di ba, “you get what you pay for” kaya kung hindi ka mag-eeffort para i-save si Mother Earth, aba, sige ka ikaw din at ang pamilya mo ang kawawa.

LORD,1!You’remy Number

“Look at me mom shining like the sun bright as the day. You’re my number one…”

Tila pamilyar ba sa’yo ang linyang iyan? Maaaring narinig mo na ‘yan mula sa isang sikat na commercial ng isang gatas sa telebisyon. At maaaring ang sinasabi ngang number one sa kantang ito ay ang ina na siyang nagpalaki, nag-aruga at nagmahal sa kanyang anak. Sabi nga nila ay wala na ngang mas hihigit pa sa pag-ibig na maibibigay ng isang ina; ngunit diyan sila nagkakamali dahil mayroong isang pag-ibig na tunay namang mas hihigit ‘di hamak kaysa sa pagmamahal ng isang ina. Iyan nga ay ang pag-ibig na nagmumula sa Panginoon.

Ang Diyos ang magulang nating lahat. Siya ang nagbigay ng ating buhay – buhay na maaari Niyang bawiin sa isang iglap lamang kung kanyang gugustuhin. Isa lang naman ang gusto ng Panginoon mula sa atin at iyon ay nakasaad sa Kanyang sampung utos: “Ibigin mo ang Diyos ng higit

sa lahat.” Unang una pa nga ‘yan hindi ba? Nais ng Diyos na mamuhay tayo ng may buong pagmamahal para sa Kanya at sundin ang misyon na iniatang Niya sa bawat isa sa atin; at ang dahilan kung bakit nais Niya na mamuhay tayo ng ayon sa Kanyang kalooban ay upang tayo nga’y makapiling Niya ng walang anumang balakid sa oras nga na tayo ay Kanya nang tawagin. Ayon sa Mateo 6:33, “Ngunit higit sa lahat ay pagsikapan ninyo na kayo’y pagharian ng Diyos at mamuhay nang ayon sa Kanyang Kalooban, at ibibigay Niya sa inyo ang lahat ng inyong pangangailangan.” Ang nais lang naman ni Lord ay kung ano ang ating ikabubuti.

Kaya naman put God first in all that you do and ask for His grace and guidance when making a decision. Kahit pa nga ang desisyon na gagawin mo ay work related or personal, hayaan mong tulungan ka ni Lord dahil kapag sa Kanya ka lumapit ay hinding-hindi ka Niya pababayaan. Tulad nga ng

isang magulang, God knows best! Kaya naman sa oras na masunod natin ang nais ni Lord, makaaasa tayong mabibigyan ng direksyon ang ating buhay at hinding-hindi tayo maliligaw ng landas.

Nasasaad sa Awit 90:12, “Dahil itong buhay nami’y maikli lang na panahon, itanim sa isip namin upang kami ay dumunong.” Hindi natin kayang mabuhay sa mundo ng walang gabay at patnubay ng Panginoon. At dahil hiram lang natin ang buhay na ito sa Kanya dapat lamang na hindi natin ito masayang sa mga bagay na walang kabuluhan. Maikli lamang ang buhay ngunit hindi naman ibig sabihin ng live it to the fullest ay gagawin mo na lahat ng iyong nais ng hindi iniisip kung ito ba ay makabubuti para sa’yo o naaayon sa kalooban ng Panginoon. 11|“Start Right, Run Well, Finish Strong” (Philippians 3:12-14)


Just like Jesus Christ, God wants us to win in this life. But winning doesn’t always

mean financial gain. Each one of us has his/her own mission given by God and in order to be winners in God’s eyes, He wants us to finish the mission He has given us. Jesus never had any financial gain but He was able to finish His mission here on earth.

As part of a microenterprise development organization which aims to transform lives, are we ready to accept that mission? Are we wholeheartedly committed to that one goal? That is perhaps the biggest question for us. If we genuinely want to support the mission of the organization, we need to start not from our program members but within ourselves. So in order to have a good start, let’s, literally, START!

Stop Making Excuses. One of the reasons why we cannot

grow and move forward is because we keep making excuses, pointing our fingers and blaming other people instead of accepting the fact that we are capable of making mistakes. Instead of making excuses and blaming other people when we are faced with a problem, why don’t we plan ahead so that we would always be prepared? A sensible man watches for problems and prepares for them but the fool never looks ahead and suffers the consequences. There are people who never plan and when they experience failure they’d just blame the organization for it. Is that even just?

Take Stock/Inventory. Assess the things that you have and

have learned over the past year. And once you’ve seen what you lack and what you need to learn,

then it’s time to listen to your leaders because they have the experience and knowledge that you may not have right now, and same goes for the leaders; listen to your staff as well because they have experiences in the field that you haven’t experienced before. That is why it is very important to have interaction amongst one another inside the organization.

Act in Faith. The Lord says, according to your faith, it

shall be done to you. That is why it is important to set your goals. Think about it. If God will give you far more than you can ask, then go and ask, declare your goals to the Lord! Always keep in mind that if you are not surrendered to the Holy Spirit there is no “far more beyond.”

Refocus. Keep in mind that the past is already done! Forget

about it and let’s all move on. It is important to refocus your mind and get over the past. Remember that your life is shaped by your thoughts so be careful of your thoughts and whatever comes out of your mouth. Okay, so how can you refocus? Start your day right! Meditate on God’s words and be like a tree along the river that never dries up and be successful in everything that you do because it is only God who can nourish and strengthen you.

Trust. Give your full trust to the Lord. Always remember

Ilang beses mo na bang pinlanong mag-gym? Isa, dalawa, o hindi mo na matandaan dahil busy ka sa iyong trabaho, at iba pa. Kaya naman pag-uwi mo sa bahay ay mas gusto mo na lang ang mag-relax kesa pagurin ang katawan sa gym. Pero teka, hindi natin dapat isa walang bahala ang ating kalusugan. Maging payat man tayo o may kalusugan importante pa rin ang pag-eehersisyo.

Hayaan niyong tulungan ko kayong makagawa ng workout plan na swak na swak sa busy schedule niyo. Magugulat ka na matapos ang trabaho at ehersisyo ay may oras ka pa para kay mister o misis at makakapagpahinga ka pa habang pinapanood ang paborito mong teleserye. Game ka na ba?

Jogging.

Mag-jogging sa labas ng bahay o mas nirerekomenda ay sa mga parke sa loob ng limang minuto. Magsuot ng komportableng damit upang maayos na maigalaw ang katawan at maiwasan ang pagkadapa o anumang aksidente. Kung malayo ang parke sa inyo at inaalala mo ang polusyon sa labas ay maaari mo itong gawin kahit sa loob lamang ng bahay. Ito ang tinatawag na jog in place o ang pagtakbo ng di umaalis sa kinatatayuan mo. Parang nagte-threadmill ka lang, ang kaibahan nito ay wala kang makina.

Ikundisyon ang sarili at i-set mo sa isip mo na may goal ka na dapat mong makuha.

Sa pagkabasa mo pa lang ng tip na ito sigurado akong sasabihin mo “15 minuto lang naman kada araw eh sisiw yan!” pero ang tanong hanggang kailan mo ba ‘to kayang panindigan at gawin? Mag set ka ng goal! Yung parang gusto mong patunayan na magagawa mo ito ng walang mintis dahil ang unang kalaban mo dito ay katamaran.

Push up.

Gawin ang tamang pagpush-up. Pumusisyon at ipantay mo ang iyong siko sa dibdib. Gawin ito ng sampung beses at ulitin ng tatlong set. Makakatulong ito sa pag-tone down ng muscles sa likod, dibdib, balikat at pati na rin ang tiyan. Para naman sa mga babaeng nahihirapan itong gawin, imbes na paa ang nakatukod ay maaaring tuhod ang gamitin. Habang nakatukod ang tuhod ay maaaring nakataas ang mga binti o nakalapat sa sahig habang nagpupush up. Gawin ito hanggang sa kaya mo nang gawin ang normal na push up.

Squat

Kumuha ng dalawang magaan na dumbbell. Tumayo ng diretso at paglayuin ang dalawang paa ng mga kalahating metro. Pumusisyon ng naka-squat, itaas ang dalawang dumbbell kapantay ng ulo at saka tumayo at mag-squat muli. Ulitin ito ng 12 ulit ng 3 set. Sa ehersiyong ito lahat ng parte ng katawan mo ang makikinabang. Mapapatibay rin nito ang iyong mga paa. Malakas din itong makapagpapayat dahil tinatamaan nito ng mabuti ang core ng iyong tiyan.

Crunches

Humiga ng diretso sa lapag at itaas ang tuhod habang nakalapat ang mga paa sa sahig. Maaaring i-stretch ang dalawang kamay na parang inaaabot ang tuhod. Bahagyang i-angat ang itaas na bahagi ng katawan habang inaabot ng bahagya ang tuhod. Magbilang mula 1-8 at saka muli itong ilapat sa sahig. Isang senyales na tama ang crunches na iyong ginagawa kapag nararamdaman mong unti-unting naninigas ang iyong tiyan at medyo nangangalay. Gawin ito ng 20 ulit sa tatlong set. Maigi kung mayroon kayong mat para hindi masakit sa likuran. Nakakatulong naman ito sa pagpapaganda ng inyong tiyan o abdomen dahil nakatatanggal ito ng taba sa ating tiyan.

Your Desk!De-cluttering

Is your area conducive for working? That is the biggest question!

We may be busy at work but isn’t it more pleasing to look at and puts you more in the mood to work if you’re actually working on a clean and well organized desk? If you’re one of those who just find it hard to organize their desks, don’t know how and where to start, let this article give you step-by-step tips on how you can work on finally organizing your desk.

1. Move everything away from your desk and start with a clean slate. It is important that you get a good look of what you need to work on. If you have a computer and a printer on your desk, you need not to take it off of where it is. Let it be part of the basics.

2. Check the things you have moved away. Which of these things need to be thrown away, moved to the drawer for safekeeping or need to

be back on top of your desk? Carefully assess everything.

3. Now, let’s decide what goes on top of your desk again! You may opt to put your pencils, ballpens, highlighters and the likes in one pencil holder. If you’re a frequent user of sticky notes, you can also put that on top of your desk for easy access. Keep in mind that if you won’t be using it every day, you may not need it placed on top of your desk.

4. If you have a drawer in your area, this is how you organize the content: put the most used items in the top drawer until you put the least used ones in the bottom drawer like the ones which are often for safekeeping such as files which are for documentation purposes only.

5. Take another look at your workplace. Are you satisfied or does it still look cluttered? You may to take pictures of

your desk in different angles just to see it from a different point of view. Now, assess again. Which part still looks cluttered, is it okay as it is, are the right items on top of your desk?

6. The last step is to just keep everything clean. Once it’s all organized, keep it that way. If it cannot be prevented, just fix it all again after work. It will be more pleasing if you can maintain that clean and organized desk so that you need not to go through all those steps again just to de-clutter. Prevention is better than cure, remember that! So instead of de-cluttering all over again, just keep it clean and organized.

Doesn’t it feel better when you have a clean and organized desk/ work area? Keep in mind that the our desk could be a representation of who we are and no one wants to labeled the wrong way, right?



Isang mapagpala at hindi malilimutang araw ang May 25, 2013 para sa mga staff at kliyente ng Tandang Sora branch dahil sa punung-puno ang araw na iyon ng

kasiyahan, kalusugan at salita ng Diyos.

Nag-organize kami ng isang activity para sa mga program members na tinawag naming “Sayaw sa Tag-Init” sa covered court ng Bagong Silangan, Batasan Quezon City. Sinimulan ang programa sa pamamagitan ng energizing Zumba dance exercise na talaga namang na-enjoy ng lahat! At dahil nga ang paksa ng programang ito ay “Sayaw sa Tag-Init” hindi mawawala ang dance contest ng mga program members na nagkaroon ng limang kalahok.

Kitang-kita sa mukha ng mga program members ang excitement habang inihahanda nila ang kanilang dance number at lalo pa nga ng sumasayaw at umiindak na! . Tila ba sila’y mga kabataang lumahok sa mga pa-contest ng sayawan which reminds me ng aking kabataan noong ako ay mga 18-21 yrs old pa lang at isang party goer. Nakakatuwa nga namang magbalik-tanaw. At nang-i-a- announce na nga ang mga nanalo, hindi magkamayaw sa ingay at sigawan ang lahat nang itinanghal bilang grand champion ang sentro ng B330 na nakatanggap ng trophy at P5,000.00 in cash.

Bukod pa nga sa naganap na dance contest, namigay din kami ng mga prizes tulad ng cellphone, sun visor, wall clock, jacket,

at t-shirt na may tatak na “Masaya Dito sa KMBI.” Kaya naman masayang-masaya ang iba pang program members lumahok man sila o hindi sa nasabing dance contest.

Matapos ang sayawan portion oras naman para sa bonding moment ng mga staff at clients sa Green Nature Resort sa San Mateo Rizal. Enjoy na enjoy ang lahat sa bonding session ng swimming, volleyball, basketball at syempre, mawawala ba naman ang videoke? Ngunit syempre, mabubuo ba ang masayang araw kung walang basbas mula sa salita ng Panginoon na shared ng PA na si Rommel Benitez na pinamagatang “Give God the Details in Your Life” hango mula sa Matthew 6:25-34.

Kitang-kita ang labis na kasiyahan ng mga nakadalong program members at mga staff sa nasabing dance activity at summer bonding session. Napakasarap ngang isipin na nakatulong kami upang pansamantala munang makalimutan ng ating mga nanay sa sentro ang kanilang mga problema at mabigyan sila ng isang araw para mag-enjoy. Tunay ngang ang mga activities na ganito ay makatutulong upang mapagtibay ang samahan ng mga program members at staff!

Ano ba ang nagiging pamantayan natin sa pagtanggap ng isang job

offer? Syempre nangunguna dyan ang sweldo, benefits, malapit sa tahanan, flexi schedule at madami pang iba. Ika nga, may kani-kaniya tayong rason bakit tayo nagtatrabaho ngayon. Maaring may mga bagay tayong sinakripisyo para magampanan lang natin ang kasalukuyang trabaho. Pwede din naman na ginagawa lang itong stepping stone para sa iba pang mas malaking plano. Kung tatanungin ka ngayon, ano nga ba ang iyong naging pamantayan upang tanggapin ang trabaho mo ngayon sa organisasyon? Para sa program member ng Naga Branch na si Elmer Bombales Jr., higit pa nga sa mga nabanggit ang higit na nananaig sa kanyang pagkakatanggap sa trabaho bilang Program Assistant para sa nasabing branch.

“Sa totoo lang, dito sa KMBI ang naging pinakamatagal kong trabaho, sa iba ay matagal na ang tatlong buwan,” kwento ni Elmer. Hindi ba’t talagang nakaka-curious kung ano ba ang nakita ni Elmer sa KMBI? Ayon kay Elmer, naging malaking parte ng desisyon niyang sumali sa organisasyon ay ang

pagiging Christ-centered nito. “Masaya ako ng malaman ko ang pagkakaron ng Christ-centered environment ng KMBI dahil alam ko na hindi malilihis ang landas ko sa oras na pasukin ko ang organisasyong ito,” pagdadagdag ni Elmer.

Inamin din ni Elmer na isang rason kung bakit hindi siya nagtatagal sa kanyang mga nakaraang trabaho ay dahil kulang siya sa patience; Ayon kay Elmer, mayroong mga pagkakataong ninais na rin niyang mag-give up na lamang at mag-resign dahil matindi din ang mga pinagdaanan niyang challenges bilang isang Program Assistant lalo na noong nag-uumpisa pa lamang siya. Ngunit dahil sa guided si Elmer ng Panginoon at alam niya kung ano ba ang misyon at layunin ng organisasyon, imbes na mawalan muli siya ng pasensya at magresign, tila ba naging challenge pa ito na dapat niyang ma-overcome! “Inisip ko na mahirap maghanap ng trabaho na tulad nito at sa tingin ko wala na nga akong mahahanap na ganito din ang environment kaya naman humingi ako ng tulong kay Lord na siya na ang bahala sa akin,” ani Elmer.

Kwento ni Elmer, dati daw ay nagtuturo siya bilang isang cathechist sa mga grade school at highschool students, kaya nga ang requirement ng isang PA sa KMBI na palaganapin ang salita ng Panginoon ay hindi na bagong trabaho para sa kanya. Masaya pa nga si Elmer dahil ito na ang kanyang passion at ngayon nga ay mga nanay na ang kanyang ini-impluwensyahan upang maturuan din ang kanilang mga anak ukol sa salita ng Diyos. Ngunit inaamin ni Elmer na hindi ito madali noong una, “nagtataka sila noon bakit kumakanta pa kami ng Papuri sa Panginoon at minsan ay may mga nakikita pa akong naghihikab tuwing nagtuturo ako ng salita ng Diyos.” Ngunit habang tumatagal ay nahasa ang kanyang skills at naipakita niya sa mga nanay sa sentro ang kahalagahan ng salita ng Diyos. Nagulat nga si Elmer ng may nanay sa isang sentro niya ang nakapagsabing, “ganito pala kapag nag-aaral ng tungkol sa bibliya, hindi naman pala boring!” Ang mga salitang iyon ang tunay na nag-motivate pa lalo kay Elmer upang ipagpatuloy ang pagiging “Agent of Change” niya sa organisasyon.

espiritwal na aspeto ng kanyang mga hawak na sentro. Ano nga ba ang maibibigay na payo ni Elmer sa mga kapwa niyang Program Assistant lalo na sa mga tulad niyang muntik na mag-give up:

1. Huwag mawalan ng pag-asa at maging loser. Huwag basta basta mag-resign dahil may na-encounter na problematic center. Hindi lamang ikaw ang nakaka-experience niyan.

2. I-treasure ang mga trials na dumarating dahil ito ang magpapalakas at lalo pang makakapagpatibay sa atin.

3. Huwag kakalimutang nandyan ang Panginoon upang tulungan tayo lalo na’t nandito tayong mga taga-KMBI upang tumulong sa Kanyang mga anak at ipahayag ang Kanyang mabuting balita

Mahirap at makulay ang buhay ng isang PA. Iba’t iba ang kwento kada area, kada branch at kada sentro. Minsan ay puno ng saya, minsan may lungkot at may mga pagkakataong nababahiran ng takot; ngunit ang mahalaga ay mangibabaw ang expected duty na maging Agents of Change at huwag agad-agad susuko. Ika nga, Be Positive! Wag Kang Aayaw!

Sa oras na magtayo tayo ng business ano ba ang ating goal? Maaaring nakikinita-

kinita na natin ang future na magiging successful ito, lalaki, magkakaroon ng demand mula sa iba’t ibang lugar at kung palarin pa nga, sa ibang bansa! Wow, export quality! Ngunit bakit nga ba nais natin na mapalaki ang ating negosyo? Isa lang naman ang rason diyan – for bigger profit. Sino nga naman ba ang ayaw na kumita ng malaki ang kanyang negosyo, hindi ba? Isipin mo na lamang na kapag naging successful ang iyong negosyo ay maibibigay mo na ang mga pangangailangan at nais ng iyong pamilya.

Ngunit, sa maniwala ka man o sa hindi, mayroong mga negosyo na hindi lang basta focused sa self-profit at ito nga ang tinatawag nilang: Social Enterprise.

Ano nga ba ang Social Enterprise?

Ang social enterprise ay isang

uri ng negosyo kung saan more focused ito sa human and environmental well-being at sa impact na maaaring magagawa nito sa isang komunidad. Sa makatuwid, mahalaga sa isang social enterprise ang pagkakaroon ng isang tinatawag na social mission o aim na siyang nagpapatakbo dito. Hindi naman sinasabing hindi nito kinakailangan ng profit dahil upang maging operational pa rin ang isang social enterprise ay kinakailangan pa rin nito ng kumita; ngunit hindi nito aim ang kumita upang yumaman, kung hindi sa kung ano ang maaari nitong magawa upang magamit ang kita nito at bawat desisyon upang magampanan ang kanilang social mission.

Kung medyo naguguluhan ka pa rin sa konsepto ng Social Enterprise, hayaan mong bigyan kita ng halimbawa mula sa isa sa mga matagumpay na modelo ng Social Enterprise dito sa ating bansa – ang Human Nature.

Ang Human Nature ay ang supling ng mas malaking foundation na kilala nating lahat bilang Gawad Kalinga. Ang Gawad Kalinga ay may iba’t ibang komunidad na tinutulungan upang mapaunlad at mabigyang pagkakakitaan - diyan nga pumapasok ang Human Nature. Nakapagbibigay sila ng maayos at regular na kita sa mga magsasakang nasa komunidad ng Gawad Kalinga sa pamamagitan ng pagkuha ng resources o raw materials sa mga nasabing magsasaka. Kaya naman ang mga produkto nila ay proudly Philippine-made, organic at chemical free. Hindi na nila kailangang kumuha ng supplies sa ibang bansa, bagkus ay gumagawa sila ng employment opportunities sa ating mga kababayan at syempre dahil organic at chemical free nga, hindi naisasantabi ang ikabubuti ng mga consumers sa aspetong ito. Bukod pa dito, pinalawak pa nila ang supply chain sa pamamagitan ng direct selling

kung saan ibinabagsak nila ang kanilang nagagawang produkto sa mga direct sellers o sa mga taong interesado na i-distribute ito sa iba’t ibang panig ng bansa. Dahil nga dito ay naging inspirasyon ang Human Nature sa mga iba’t ibang entrepreneur na isulong ang social entrepreneurship. Isang magandang halimbawa ng social enterprise na na-inspire ng Human Nature ay ang Jacinto & Lirio. Gumagawa sila ng mga bags mula sa mga water hyacinth o water lily. Bagamat sinasabing peste ito sa mga katubigan dahil sa idinudulot nito sa pagbabara ng mga irigasyon, nakakita ng oportunidad ang Jacinto & Lirio na gawing bags ang mga halamang ito! Napakinabangan ng grupo ang halamang ito upang makagawa nga ng high-end na produkto na ngayon ay kanila nang mina-market abroad.

Ngunit paano ba, tayo mismo, ay makatutulong upang ma-apply ang konsepto ng social enterprise sa ating mga program members o

sentro nang mas makatulong pa nga tayo sa kanila? Isang example nga na maaari mong gawing modelo ay ang pagpoproduce ng mga tinatawag na Zesto bags. Maaaring narinig mo na ito o ‘di kaya ay nakakita ka na. Kung iisipin mo ay maganda ang ideyang ito dahil una ay recycling na kung maituturing ang ginagawa dito at nakapagbibigay na rin ito ng kabuhayan sa mga kababaihang mananahi nito. Maaaring mag-imbita ng makapagtuturo sa mga program members kung paano ginagawa ito at gawin nila itong negosyo hanggang sa may isang mag-gagather ng mga natapos nang produkto na siya ngang makakakapgmarket nito sa labas. Ayos ‘di ba? Dagdag kaalaman sa mga program members, dagdag kita pa nga at maaaring makapag-imbita pa sila ng ibang nais na lumahok sa kanilang komunidad kaya naman they can create employment na rin at the same time. At ang maganda pa nga niyan ay tayo lamang ang nagturo

at gumabay sa kanila kung ano ang maaaring gawin ngunit ang social enterprise na nabuo ay pagmamay-ari ng bawat isa sa kanila.

Marami pang creative ways kung paano natin maaaring ma-transform ang isang komunidad, sentro o negosyo ng ating mga program members bilang isang social enterprise. Magbasa-basa, maging updated sa internet din upang makatulong sa kanila. Maaaring magsimula lamang sa maliit hanggang sa magabayan natin ito sa unti-unting paglaki at pag-unlad. Mas masaya at masarap ang pakiramdam kung hindi lamang profit ang nagiging basehan ng isang negosyo. Kapag nakatutulong ito na makapagbigay ng kabuhayan o di kaya upang mas mapaunlad pa ang kapaligiran at komunidad, mas nagiging, ika nga, worth it all ang lahat.


PILIPINOASENSO

Isang carinderia at sari-sari store owner si Aling Jessa at siya ay isa sa mga mukha

ng mga microentrepreneurs. Habang tumatagal , dumarami ang kanyang paninda pati na ang mga ulam na kanyang inihahahanda. Ang kagandahan sa kanyang negosyo, malapit ito sa isang opisina at terminal ng tricycle sa kanilang lugar kung kaya’t sapul nya agad ang kanyang target market. Ang resulta, kinailangan na niyang kumuha ng tindera at katulong sa pagluluto. O, hindi ba lumelevel-up si ate?

Karamihan sa miyembro ng KMBI ay nagsimula talaga sa maliliit na negosyo. Karamihan sa kanila ginagamit ang negosyo bilang panawid gutom ng kanilang pamilya. Ngunit mayroon naman ding ilan na lumaki na ang negosyo at ngayo’y may pagkakataon na mabigyan din ng hanapbuhay ang iba. Oh, hindi ‘ba parang kabilang na rin natin ang ating mga program members sa pagiging agents of change kung ganito ang nangyayari sa lahat?

Pero teka, paano ‘to naging

posible?

Umpisahan natin ang proseso sa atin mismo, bilang isang microenterprise development organization. Ang KMBI ay tumutulong na matugunan ang pangangailangan ng mga microentrereneurs na magkaroon ng adisyonal na kapital para mas mapalago pa ang kanilang mga negosyo. At tulad ni Aling Jessa, tinutulungan din sila ng KMBI na magkaroon ng karagdagang kaalaman ukol sa pagbubudget, tamang pagpepresyo at ng mga iba pa ngang bagay na maaaring pagkakitaan. Kaya kung titingnan mo, malaki ang magiging role natin sa pag-unlad ng ating mga program members.

Ngayong naibigay na natin ang pangangailangan ng ating mga program members upang mapalago nila ang kanilang negosyo at mapaunlad ang kanilang sarili, oras na para sila naman ang kumilos. Tulad nga ng nangyari sa negosyo ni Aling Jessa, darating sa punto na kakailanganin na ng ating mga microentrepreneurs na mag-hire ng mga taong tutulong sa pagpapatakbo ng kanilang

negosyo. Dito natin makikita na talagang ginamit ni program member ng tama ang mga bagay na natutunan at ang kapital na ipinahiram ng KMBI sa kanila. During this phase, makikita natin na nagkaroon na sila ng power to create employment. Maging ito man ay hiring para sa isang tindera, tagaluto, taga-tahi, nakakatulong pa rin ito dahil ang bottom line pa din, nakapagbigay sila ng trabaho sa mga taong hindi naman nakatapos ng pag-aaral o walang kapasidad na magkaroon ng trabaho sa pormal na sector.

Kung titingnan lamang natin ang mga datos, numero uno sa larangan ng microfinance ang Pilipinas sa loob na ng apat na taon. Ayon nga sa BSP (Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas) Governor na si Armando Tetangco, noong 2012 ay nasa 7 bilyong piso na ang naipahiram ng mga financial institutions sa humigit kumulang 1 milyong micro, small at medium scale enterprises. Isipin mo na lamang na ang humigit kumulang na 1 milyong micro, small at medium scale entrepreneurs na iyan ay nakapagbibigay ng employment

sa kani-kanilang lugar. Maaaring kung iisipin mo isa o dalawa pa lamang sa mga program members mo ang maaaring nakaabot sa ganitong estado, stay positive! Gawin mo itong inspirasyon upang makatulong ka din sa iyong program members na maging tulay din sa pag-angat ng iba. Maging eye-opener ka sa kanila, ipaalam na may mga negosyong nakakapag-attract ng international market. Isipin mo na lamang ang native bags mula sa iba’t ibang probinsya, ang gitara mula sa Cebu, wood works mula sa Paete at marami pang iba! Ang lahat ng iyan ay nagsimula bilang mga microentrepreneurs na may potensyal na maka-attract ng international market kung mabibigyan lamang sila ng tamang oportunidad.

Tandaan na napakahalaga ng papel ng mga microentrepreneurs sa pag-angat at pag-asenso ng isang bansa at syempre mahalaga din ang papel natin bilang parte ng isang microenterprise development organization na tulad ng KMBI. Ang pag-asenso ng ating program

members ay hindi lamang responsibilidad nila bilang negosyante kung hindi ikaw rin mismo na parati nilang kausap at may kaalaman kung paano nila iturn-around ang kanilang mga negosyo. Dapat lang tama ang mindset, may goal at may desire na umangat. Keri mo na ba?

Project Update

KMBI and Microsave held its debriefing and culminating activity on May 20, 2013 at the KMBI West Avenue Extension Office for the symbolic turnover of the five-month technical assistance.

From January to May of 2013, Microsave assisted KMBI in improving and further developing

the organization’s product packages, new branch model, manuals, incentive scheme and the audit and monitoring process tools.

Microsave’s domain leader for Asia Raj Kumar was present for the said turn-over together with the organization’s Board and top management.

The CCDE (Carolina Community Development Enterprise) in Brgy. Carolina, Naga City is currently on its 7th livestock cycle with 41 beneficiaries starting with two hogs per member.

“Although we initially started with two hogs per member, there are some who are already caring for three hogs because of good performance

on caring for their livestock,” said Jose Julian Dychinco, community development officer.

“I am proud to say that the mortality rate of our livestock has decreased over the months and we are also planning on having meat production as an advanced learning,” added Dychinco.
