ForewordWell, you have done the course, receved the toolkt, and now you are readng ths gude. You may be wonderng what you have taken on and ‘would they notce f I gave up?’

Ths gude s to help you to put nto context some of the actons n the game and understand some of the wder ssues of ths very large subject area. If you wsh to learn more we can gve you lnks to where to find more nformaton and the organsatons that can help. We can also help wth some further tranng.

Your role s to help groups to decde what they want to do and wrte an acton plan. To do ths you don’t really need to know a lot about each area for acton: you ‘char the meetng’. To have volunteered for ths role t s hghly lkely that you are nterested n these ssues and knew about some of the areas for acton before the tranng and would lke to know more. The groups you meet may expect you to know everythng, but I have not met anyone who s that knowledgeable! They wll have to make do wth someone who knows where to find nformaton.

By the way – we wll notce f you gve up! Although sometmes dauntng, workng wth communty groups s one of the most satsfyng thngs you can do. It has kept me nterested for over 20 years.

Best of luck and don’t forget you can always ask us.
