Principal’s Report

With the windy weather and bushfire season well underway it is important that families look at their survival plans. The following information is directly from the NSW Rural Fire Service website, where more information can be found to help families be prepared.

Bush fires are a natural part of the Australian environment and occur regularly, but

many people fail to prepare for them.

When threatened by bush fires, people will often leave it too late to make critical

decisions and often have few safe options left.

That’s why you need to PREPARE. ACT. SURVIVE.

Tummy Bug

There has been an increase in the number of people suffering bouts of vomiting and diarrhoea. The following information from the “KidsHealth” website relates to the prevention of diarrhoea:

Although it's almost impossible to prevent kids from ever getting infections that cause

diarrhoea, here are some things to help lessen the likelihood:

Make sure kids wash their hands well and often, especially after using the

toilet and before eating. Hand washing is the most effective way to prevent

diarrheal infections that are passed from person to person. Dirty hands carry

infectious germs into the body when kids bite their nails, suck their thumbs,

eat with their fingers, or put any part of their hands into their mouths

Keep bathroom surfaces clean to help prevent the spread of infectious germs

High School Transition

This Wednesday our Year 6 students will go to the High School for transition to high school lessons. Students will be permitted to wear their Year 6 shirts for transition lessons, and are expected to wear leather school shoes or joggers in order to participate in these sessions.

School Photos

School photos have been sent home today. Please contact the school if you do not receive photos that you have ordered by the end of the week.

Stage 2 Excursion

Forty students in Years 3 and 4 will be participating in an excursion to Lake Burrendong this week. The students need to be at school by 7.45am as the bus leaves promptly at 8.00 am. Students not participating in the excursion are expected to be at school with Miss Matthews and Mr Burggraaff.

Change of Assembly

Though 3S were due to run the next assembly, due to Stage 2 being on excursion KJ will be hosting our next assembly on Friday, 25 October. The students in 3S will be involved in the assembly on Friday, 8 November.

Jumpers still needed

Though the weather has been warming up, some students have been feeling the cold when at school. Spring weather is unpredictable, so we recommend that students have a jumper at school at all times.

Congratulations

At the beginning of this term, Miss Johnson was married. We congratulate her and her husband, and wish them the best for their future together. Miss Johnson will be known as Mrs Ward.

AECG Executive

At the AGM of the AECG meeting last week, the following people were successful in gaining an executive position:

President: Sheree Brandy Vice-President: Virginia Griffiths Treasurer: Janine Richards

The position of secretary was held over until the next meeting, which is to be held at the High School on Tuesday, 12 November.

P&C Meeting

The next meeting of the P&C is at 7.00 pm on Thursday, 7 November in the school library. All welcome to attend.

Canteen Helpers Urgently Needed

For the past term, the canteen has been particularly busy on a Friday morning with around 120 – 160 lunches needing to be prepared by 11.10 am. We would appreciate some additional parent or community assistance on Friday mornings. If you have some spare time between 9.30 and 11.00 am, please volunteer to assist in getting lunches out to classes on time.

Book Fair

Our annual Book Fair will be held in the week of November 4 – 8. Students will be able to look at the items available for sale from Monday to Thursday, with all available to buy on Friday November 8.

Dear Parents / Carers

You are invited to attend our Formal Assembly

Friday 25th October 2013

Every One Welcome

Hope to see you there.

Class KJ and Mrs Jones

Intention to apply: Year 7 entry into selective high schools in 2015

Dear Parent/Carer

Government schools use a range of strategies to meet the educational needs of gifted and talented students. One strategy is selective high school placement which provides intellectual stimulation and an educationally enriched environment for gifted and talented students.

Offers for selective high school placement will be determined mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 13 March 2014.

If you would like your child to apply for selective high school placement in Year 7 in 2015, you need to do so soon.

Most applicants are expected to apply on the internet and submit their application online. They will need to have an email address (not the student’s email address), access to the internet and a printer.

Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from 15 October 2013 at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement. Online applications close on 18 November 2013.

If parents do not have internet access, commercially printed application forms become available from the school on 22 October 2013. They must be completed and returned to the school by 18 November 2013.

The applications will be processed by the school in exactly the same way whether parents apply online or submit a commercially printed form. Parents are to submit only ONE application for each student.

Yours sincerely

Principal

Cut along the dotted line and return the completed slip below to this school by next Friday.

Note: This is an intention to apply only, NOT an application. You will need to submit either an online or a paper application to be considered for placement.
