The Shand & Jurs Model 94020 Conservation Valve isdesigned utilizing over 75 years of experience in producinghigh quality and dependable conservation fittings. Continueddesign improvements provide these valves with highefficiency, maximum flow capacity, and minimum leakage.The easily serviceable configuration and lightweightconstruction reduces maintenance and installation costs.

Standard materials of construction are low copperaluminum, cast iron, cast steel and 316 stainless steel forbody materials. Aluminum body valves come standard withintegral seats and have optional replaceable seats. Otherbodies come with replaceable seats as standard design.Replaceable seats are made of corrosion resistant moldedthermosetting phenolic, aluminum or 316 stainless steel andare easily replaced.

Shand & Jurs “Expanda-Seal” option is available on all pressure pallet assemblies. This feature, shown in blue, significantlyreduces leakage. The ballooning effect of the teflon diaphragm effectively seals the valve. The “Expanda-Seal” featureensures less than .5 SCFH of leakage at 95% of the set point.

FEP Teflon for reliability and extended service life. Teflondiaphragms contribute to high resistance to adhesion ofice and gum formations, thus assuring protection againstpallet sticking to the seating surface. The body is self-draining and drip rings keep condensates from the seatingsurfaces. The carefully engineered body, seat, and palletassembly results in a superior combination of tight sealingand high capacity at low over-pressure with minimalblowdown.

Conservation Valves are available in a full range of sizesand configurations, such as closed vent hoods (pipe-away),cryogenic hoods and flame snuffers. Standard pressure andvacuum settings are 1/2 oz./sq. in. Maximum pressuresettings are 24 oz./sq. in.* and maximum vacuum settingsare 5 oz./sq. in.* The S&J Model 94020 Conservation Valveis available with optional pressure and vacuum limit switches.

Figures 1 and 3 show the relation of the pressure or vacuumpallet assembly to the seat when atmospheric and tankpressures are equal. The "wrap around" effect of the resilientdiaphragm on the edge of the seat and the resulting highratio of seating force to seating area affords a tight seal.

As the pressure or vacuum increases, the pallet begins torise. Because there is still a wrap-around effect on the edgeof the seat, good sealing is maintained. Teflon diaphragmmemory and lapped seating surface further enhance sealingcharacteristics.

As increasing pressure or vacuum continues to lift the pallet,the diaphragm is held in close proximity to the seat by theflat plane memory of the diaphragm material.

As set pressure or vacuum is reached the diaphragm leavesthe seat (see Figures 2 and 4) and the escaping vapor liftsthe pallet even further.

The vacuum pallet is guided in the same manner as thepressure pallet. Both are pallet stem and pallet side guidedfor smooth movement.

STEAM JACKETED OPTION:Designed for use on tanks containing liquids whose vaporscrystallize at ambient temperatures. Stainless steel pressureand vacuum pallets are cased in a steam heated jacketensuring the valves will be free from plugging. The jacket issteel or stainless steel construction. The standard jacket canwithstand steam pressures up to 100 psig. Higher pressureratings are available.
