Mrs. Stella Wilson, 610 Stanford Dr., Tucson has 98 claims on the Papago Indian Reservation, and wishes to retain 7 claims (or at least 4). Mts. Wilson wants engineer to visit her claims and write a letter to the Papago Indian Agency stating that they contain minerals. Jan. 29, 1964 was suggested for field trip.

hill. Side hill cut is 15 ft. long exposing vein VJhich strikes north't',festerly into hill. Ea.."'(imum depth-3 ft.
GEOLOITf &, Iiill\fERALIZATION- Country rock , granite 8,nd grani ti'c pOr:Phy~r, altered beyond identification at the surface in vicinity of the outcro~. Vein has quartz filling with considerable amounts of galena and oxidized lead minerals. Width of vein about one foot. The high grade gold is found on the h8.l1ging 'wall side of vein where the vein enters the hill. The streal( is about 4: inches wide and the gold occurs in seams in this loose, open, iron-stained streal:. It is rather coarse and is associated with quartz, lead minerals, hem<ltite and the decomposed ledge material. The gold shatters badly when handled, and :~16. 00 was rec overed in d~J washer from the dust when the ore was struck.
The strike of the vein is north-westerly and aP:gears to dip steeply to the north-east. Walls are well marked 10' to 15 t back from the gold showing, 't'J'here quartz (bearing galena) is more prominent, but at the gold exposure the walls have an a'Ppe~ance suggesting intersection by another 'Tein o If this should be the case, the denosit vIill likely take the form. of a chirlmey wi til the most intense enricl1..ment at the intersection, though values may continue in the cross vein.
The shallow de:pth-less than 3 ft. belov! the surface-and the ad:vancEdr weathering of the rocks make it extremely diffiC111t to interpr9t conditi<?.D.s.
Two sa'1lples taken by thEO ov;:p.¢'i'and assa:iedt/:· ii. A~ J,Ic~bs showed:
High Grade Ore Lead Silver Ore
Oz ~J..d!(' Oz~~1.Y..£r ;; ~d VV Total Value 977.4 ;j34,209.00 per ton.
.01 26.0 46.1
The fact that the lead ore slj.ows a gold content of only 351 compared with ~~34,209 a few feet distant in the sarrre vein su:pports the hypothesis of a cross-vein being the source of the gold~
This discovery is interesting in having been made by tracing placer gold up the canyon from the flats below. Nuggets as 12.rge as 1/2 oz "liTere found low in the canyon, but beC3.l11e finer as the vein source v-ras neared. There is no question as to the strike being genuine. The importrult Question of magnitude can only be answered by development. -
