SafetyAll Magiglo gas fires feature an oxygendepletion sensor that monitors the air supply inthe room and automatically shuts off the fire ifthe oxygen supply falls below a safe level.

VentilationGenerally, a gas fire with a gas input of 6.9kW orless does not normally require additionalventilation. A fire with a gas input of 7.0kW ormore will require the installation of additionalventilation. This should be equivalent to 100cm2in the room where the fire is installed. For specificdetails please consult the Magiglo Technical Guide.

InstallationMagiglo recommend that installation of itsproducts is only carried out by installersemployed or recommended by a Magigloauthorised retailer. Gas installations must becarried out by a CORGI registered installer.

WarrantyMagiglo fires all carry a 12 month guarantee.Optional extended guarantees are available aspart of our customer registration scheme.

Control & ignition systemsManual controlThe standard control is a high specificationmultifunctional gas control infinitely variablebetween high and low. Ignition is by piezo electricspark and there is a permanent pilot facility. No mains electricity or batteries are required.

Remote controlThe remote control features a battery poweredgas control infinitely variable between high andlow. Ignition is by piezo electric spark and there is a permanent pilot. The appliance can also beoperated manually without the handset.

Trim Switch controlThe Trim Switch control is a high level controllocated on the right hand side of the appliance,and features a battery powered gas controlinfinitely variable between high and low.Ignition is by piezo electric spark and there is a permanent pilot. Note: The Duo Power TrimSwitch is electrically powered and switchablebetween user defined high and low.

Optimum Wall Switch controlThe Optimum Wall Switch control is awallmounted control system that features a battery powered wall switch (available inChrome and Brass finishes) with on/off and is infinitely variable between high and lowsettings. Ignition is by piezo electric spark and there is a permanent pilot. The fire canalso be operated manually without the WallSwitch control.

Controls for electric appliancesThe electric appliances can be operated by eitheran infra-red remote control or a set of pushbuttons that are located behind a drop downlouvre panel. Both are supplied as standard andenable the user to operate both the flame effectand the heat output.

A convenient set of small LED lights at the rearof the fire allow the user to tell at a glancewhat control setting they have selected.

Power – takes the appliance in and out of standby mode Flame – turns the flame effect on and off Low – turns on the heater at a rate of 1kW/HrHigh – turns on the heater at a rate of 2kW/Hr

Chimneys, flue types and vents

A Standard side ventA standard side vent terminal is used for boththe Duo Power and the Affinity Power side ventapplications.

B/C Power 2A recent addition to the Magiglo range is theoption of having a ‘Power 2’ flued fire. Suitablefor both the Duo and the Affinity, the mainadvantages of the Power 2 are:

- The Power 2 terminal vent options are moreaesthetically pleasing, and are available inwhite or terracotta finishes.

- The unique design of the Power 2 with itsinternal baffle helps to reduce nuisance fan

shut-downs in adverse weather conditions, and reduce back-draught to the room.

B Power 2 surface-mounted rear ventThe Duo Power and Affinity Power can be venteddirectly to an outside wall, using up to 760mm offlue duct (with optional extension) to a Power 2surface-mounted rear vent.

C Power 2 recessed rear ventIf external space is restricted, the Duo Power andAffinity Power can be vented directly to an outsidewall, using up to 760mm of flue duct (withoptional extension) to a Power 2 recessed rear vent.

Usually of masonry construction (identifiableby a chairbrick at the back of the opening),the flue must comply with the BuildingRegulations for Class 1 (solid fuel) appliances,with a minimum diameter of 175mm (7”)and a minimum equivalent height of 3 metres.

A Class 1 flue usually terminates with a brickor stone built chimney.

Class 1 flue

Usually of pre-cast concrete blockconstruction (hollow concrete blocks whichform part of the inner skin of the dwelling)that terminates with a ridge tile. There aretwo main types:

a) Pre 1986 the chimney should have aminimum cross sectional area of 210mm x 65mm throughout and a minimumequivalent height of 3 metres.

b) Post 1986 the chimney should have aminimum cross sectional area of 16,500mm2

with no dimension less than 90mm and aminimum equivalent height of 3 metres.

Conventional flueA chimney that is dependant uponnatural drafts for its operation.

Decorative gas fireA gas fire designed to be installedin an open flue and to simulate a solid fuel fire.

Detached controlA control valve that can bemounted up to 1 metre away from the appliance.

Embaflame fireA highly realistic log and ember gas effect.

Fire bedThe area above a gas burner where the gas burns.

FireboxA steel box for installation into a fireplace opening designed to accept a gas fire.

FireguardA metal meshed frame placed in front of a fire to preventaccidental contact and usedespecially to protect children and elderly persons.

Flame supervision deviceA safety device that monitors apilot and cuts off the gas supply to the main burner if the pilot is extinguished.

Gas inputThe amount of gas used by an appliance usually quoted in Kilowatts per hour on maximum setting.

HearthThe floor of a fireplace that extendsoutwards into the room.

Heat outputThe typical maximum heat outputof an appliance usually quoted inKilowatts per hour.

Inset fireAn appliance that fits into a fireplace opening, no part ofwhich projects forward of thevertical plane of the chimneybreast.

Low lintelA fireplace lintel (supporting beam)at a low level.

No-ventA gas fire that would normallyoperate without additional purposeprovided ventilation.

Optimum controlA wall switch control for operatingthe fire.

Oxygen depletion sensorA safety device which is part of the pilot assembly, thatextinguishes the fire if there is a build up of harmful gases.

Permanent pilotA pilot light that is left oncontinuously, removing the need to turn it on each time the appliance is lit.

Physical barrierThis is to provide at least theequivalent level of warning to the approach of an open fire to that of a hearth. It should define a clear zone whereoccupants must exercise additional caution. This barriershould be made of non-combustible material and bepermanently fixed in place.

PiezoA means of generating a spark to ignite a pilot.

PilotA small jet of gas that is used to ignite a main gas burner.

Power flued fireA combined fire and flue system for use without a normal chimney.The flue system is operated by anelectrically powered fan.

Radiant gas fireA gas fire designed so that theheat output is produced primarilyby infra-red radiation.

Rear ventA flue for a power flue fire wherebythe flue exits from the rear of a firedirectly through a wall to outside air.

Recessed rear ventA terminal for a power flue rearvent fire that is recessed into theoutside wall.

Ridge ventA raised roof tile that serves as aflue outlet, usually located at thehighest point.

Running costsThe costs of operating an applianceusually quoted on maximum settingin pence per hour.

Side ventA flue system for a power flue fire whereby the flue can be routedup to 7 metres horizontally tooutside air.

Spacer kitAdditional accessory necessary whenthe depth of an opening is restrictedfor particular installations.

Surface mounted rear ventA terminal for a power flue rearvent fire that is surface mountedonto the outside wall.
