Coronavirus:How has lockdown changed in England?

Under new rules, people can spend more time outdoors for leisure purposes, including sunbathing, having a picnic in the park or doing sport - but social distancing rules must always be followed.

People can exercise as much as they want as well as meet or play non-contact sports, like golf or tennis, with one other person from outside their household - but social distancing rules still apply. Having a friend over in your garden wouldn't be allowed if it meant they'd have to come inside your house.

Playgrounds and outdoor gyms, where there's a higher risk of close contact and touching surfaces, will stay shut

People in England can also drive as far as they like to outdoor open spaces. However, they shouldn't travel to Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, nor stay anywhere else overnight, and should avoid busy areas so social distancing rules can be followed. People who break rules can be fined. Anyone who is shielding and has been asked to stay at home should carry on doing so. The government is still advising people to only use public transport for essential journeys.Garden centres can reopen and people can leave their homes to collect items ordered from businesses, and travel to waste or recycling centres.

Coronavirus:Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, wants your photos of lockdown life!

The Duchess of Cambridge has launched a special project asking people to take photos of what life was like in the UK during lockdown.

The photos should reflect the strength, bravery and kindness of people at the time, and capture the "spirit of the nation".

You don't have to have lots of photography experience. The pictures will be chosen based on the emotion or experiences they show.

There's three different categories to enter - Helpers And Heroes, Your New Normal and Acts Of Kindness. The duchess will help to choose 100 of the entries which will be shown online, before a selection are shown across the UK later in the year. The project is open until 18 June, with photographers asked to send their pictures via the National Portrait Gallery's website.

Coronavirus:Schools in China begin to reopen!

Schools in China are gradually reopening with strict rules to try to keep the coronavirus under control. Pupils returning to school in China now sit in smaller classes, have shorter lessons and must avoid public transport.

The reopening of schools has been staggered so that middle and high schools return first. Nearly all areas of China, including Wuhan where the outbreak started, have begun some school classes, but bigger cities like Beijing and Shanghai, where there are more people in a smaller space, are taking a more cautious approach to avoid a second wave of infection.

Schools in cities with large populations are running classes with a maximum of 20 students to allow social distancing, finishing at 3.30pm every day. Parents are told to collect their children by car or to walk, to avoid busy transport like the subways. These measures come as China says it has 'won the war' against the coronavirus. The number of new cases of people catching the disease is now down to double figures. Globally, more than a billion children have had their education disrupted because of Covid-19.

Science History Cards

Ways to Play…

• Use the cards to play Charades or create a ‘Who am I?’ Quiz.

• Pick your Hero and have a playful conversation exploring what qualities you think your Hero possesses that makes him or her Heroic. What would you say to your Hero?

• Print out the first 4 cards below twice, cut out, glue onto card then use the cards to play a Memory game.

We hope you enjoy the playing AND learning whichever way you play History Heroes.

Have fun! Miss Ripoll

Simple Summer Sun ClockAll you need to do is….Put a big stick, bean pole or broom etc in the middle of the grass/garden in a sunny area.

Wherever the end of the big sticks shadow is, make an O’clock position, then put a smaller stick there or stone or even a toy. This will eventually give a semi circle of small objects looking like a sun dial around a big stick. Label each stone so you can identify what time it is.

Fingers crossed it stays sunny!

Enjoy! Mr Goacher

Calling all pupils and staff to create Eco Bricks!

We’re setting everyone the challenge of making Eco Bricks to save throw-away-plastic from going to landfill sites and into the ocean. These will eventually be used to create something fun for the school.

All you need to do is fill either 600ml or 1500ml bottles with clean and dry plastic until it weighs either 200g (for a 600ml bottle), or 500g (for a 1500ml bottle).

We’d like as many EcoBricks as we can get so save your plastic wrappers and packaging!

You can click on the link below to learn some fun facts about plastic, the environment, and some of the amazing things that’ve been created using EcoBricks.

Hello from the new St.Dominic’s SchoolCounselling Team!

Hello my name is Katy Tucker and I am happy to be part of the counselling team. I have come from Guildford College where I worked for a long time with students with special needs. I am really looking forward to meeting any of you who want to come and say ‘hello’

I will be in school on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Hello everyone, my name is Sarah Johnson. Some of you may recognise me already as I have worked at St.Dominics for a few years in a different role. I am really looking forward to getting to know/continuing getting to know you and supporting you as part of the school counselling team. I will be in school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Sometimes we all have problems that are worrying. Think of a jigsaw puzzle when

all of the pieces are difficult to match together. Talking about a problem in

counselling is like sorting out the pieces so that we can build a picture that makes

more sense to us.

What’s

counselling

about?
