To provide participants with the skills needed to lead successful Control Hazard and Operability Studies.

Who should attend?Experienced control system engineers (control, process, instrument or electrical) with several years of practical experience in implementing, operating and modifying modern electronic control and/or protective systems.

Pre-requisites:The workshop will assume that participants have:

Professional engineering skills in at least one aspect of control engineering, such as process control, instrumentation, or another similar field.

A prior working familiarity with HAZOP studies.

Prior completion of a recognised HAZOP Leader course and/or equivalent experience in leading HAZOP studies is preferred; however practical experience in HAZOP studies might be sufficient.

How participants will benefit:On completion of this course, participants should have sufficient understanding of, and some practise with, Control HAZOP methodology, to form a basis for leading Control HAZOP studies within their local business environment.

Control HAZOP methodology:The Control HAZOP methodology presented in this workshop is the standard methodology developed by the presenter for ICI Australia / Orica, and as used by Kengineering Pty Ltd.

Workshop objectives:This workshop seeks to train participants in:

The framework within which control hazard studies should be conducted Related skills Preparing for and leading Control HAZOP studies Recording study outcomes, and follow-up

The workshop emphasises Control HAZOP studies, but also briefly covers other types of control (and other) hazard studies.

The workshop focuses substantially on the leading of studies, but participants that are less experienced with HAZOP are expected to gain insights that will be useful as Control HAZOP team members.

The workshop uses practical exercises to develop participant skills.
