5 Moving Forward: Improvement from Observation

2. REVISING/ SUBSTITUING CONSTRUCTION METHOD TO ELIMINATE HAZARDS

Traditional method of using T10 dowel bars for precast component propping

Observation:Protruding Precast propping dowel bars poses a hazard

• Use of Hilti HUS- H bolt instead ofT10 dowel bars.


Improvement:

Replaced by HUS-Bolt system •The HUS-H bolt is designed to be

used without any sockets. • It can be straightaway tightened

into the concrete, in a similar fashion to self-tapping screws.

• Use of cordless drill to eliminate electrical hazard and poor cable management

1. Place the flange plate to the correct position as highlighted from the drawings, marked its position and drill accordingly.

2. Place the correct diameter of HUS- H bolt to the hole

3. Tighten the HUS – H bolt using the cordless electrical wrench.



3. Administrative measure to minimize possibility of incompatible work

Observation:

Incompatible work between construction and ground level

Observation:

More than 2 traffic controllers required to control public crossing over the worksite access

Observation:

At least 2 workers are required for cleaning tyresof construction vehicles and they are exposed to traffic accident.

Observation:

Without directional signs and designated parking area, traffic near misses are observed.

Traffic directional signs and access demarcation to prevent any possible traffic accident and visitor’s possible entry into work area.

Observation:

At least 6 workers are required to clean area and they are exposed to traffic accident and respiratory issues

Solution:

Mobilise battery operated vacuum machine and only 1 hour is required to clean the large area.

Observation:

Too many workers needed to be deployed to clean multi storeycarpark and they are exposed to dust.

Insufficient workers to address safety issues observed due to deployed at units for cleaning of completed units

Improvement

Cleaning robots are used that also reduce respiratory related issues.


The announcement of the Technical (R&D) department by our Managing Director to look into innovation to carry out construction works which aim to improve productivity by using lesser manpower and using technology to make work carried out in a more safer way.

Initiative to use technology to reduce hazard and increase productivity.

Overview of LHLWong Nam Sin(CEO)


- Easier to handle as timber is much lighter than concrete (80% lighter) and steel

- lifting operation made safer - eliminate hotwork activity.

Lian Ho Lee shall continue to propose this alternative construction method which is supported by BCA.
