October National Cooperative Month AEC is one of many local co-ops proudly serving its members.

October 31 Halloween Be aware of the trick-or-treaters and have a safe Halloween.

October 8-14 Fire Prevention WeekInstall smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of your home. Cooperatives = Commitment

No matter which utility brings electricity to a customer’s home,

it has made a huge commitment to you: to keep your lights on, your appliances running, your electric heater and air conditioner running when you need them most.

But you don’t get your electricity from just any utility; you get yours from an electric cooperative.

Electric cooperatives commit to much more than simply sending power to your house. They are committed to serving their communities, through economic development and job-creating programs. They are committed to being member-first. In fact, in the cooperative business model, the utility’s members actually own it. Members are on every cooperative’s board of directors, and those directors are elected by members.

October is National Cooperative Month, and appropriately enough, the theme for this year’s celebration is “Cooperatives Commit.”

More than 40,000 U.S. businesses are organized as cooperatives, and their consumers, like you are loyal. In fact, surveys have shown that consumers want to do business with organizations that share their values.

Like all electric cooperatives, AEC knows what its communities want and need because it is locally owned and operated. Cooperatives don’t sell stock on Wall Street, so they don’t have to answer to shareholders.

So this October celebrate with your electric cooperative, AEC. Make a commitment to give someone who works there a nice pat on the back for honoring the cooperative commitment.

Halloween Safety Tips WALK SAFELY

• Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks.

• Always walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible. Children should walk on direct routes with the fewest street crossings.

• Watch for cars that are turning or backing up. Teach children to never dart out into the street or cross between parked cars.

TRICK-OR-TREAT WITH AN ADULT• Children under the age of 12 should not be alone

at night without adult supervision. If kids are mature enough to be without supervision, they should stick to familiar areas that are well lit and trick-or-treat in groups.

KEEP COSTUMES CREATIVE AND SAFE• Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape

or stickers and, if possible, choose light colors.

• Choose face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of masks, which can obstruct a child’s vision.

• Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers.

DRIVE SAFELY ON HALLOWEEN• Drive slowly, anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic

and turn your headlights on earlier in the day to spot children from greater distances.

• Popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Be especially alert to kids during these hours.

In 1998 Clint began working part time for AEC in the warehouse and with the spray crew. By 2001 he was working full time on the Right of Way crew. He went to linemen’s school in 2004 while still working as an intern. The next year Clint worked full time as an apprentice on the line crew. By 2007 he was the central area serviceman. Since 2014 Clint has been a staking technician in the engineering department.

Clint was born in Woodward, OK but has lived in Cherokee most of his life. He has been married to Megan for 10 years. They have two sons, eight-year-old Tyson and six-year-old Colton. He is a family man who enjoys hunting, golfing and fishing. After 15 years at AEC, Clint still takes pleasure in promoting AEC and the reliable services it provides its members. Clint has met a great deal of people and still enjoys meeting new consumers and maintaining the relationships with current members. Clint’s Grandpa Gus was his biggest inspiration while he was growing up. Gus was a hard-working man who always loved his family unconditionally. Clint clearly remembers this and tries to mirror Grandpa Gus.

Anyone that knows Clint knows that he is an avid Sooner fan and certainly a Cherokee Chief fan. Someday Clint hopes to find a little cabin in the mountains that sits near a creek – an excellent place for some relaxation and family time. Hope you find that cabin soon, Clint. BOOMER SOONER!

The post office has determined that these capital credit checks were undeliverable. AEC would like your help in finding the rightful owners. Please call (580) 596-3333 and ask for Christy Schanbacher or Gina Waugh if you have current contact information for the following individuals or their heirs. If you are unable to speak to Christy or Gina, please leave a message with the name and the correct address. The remaining individual list along with the list of businesses will continue in the November Hotlines.
